The History

The HUMMER was made for the US army during the early 1980's by the by AM General Corporation, formerly the government and military vehicle division of American Motors, in its South Bend, Indiana assembly plant. It was in 1992 that AM General started selling a civilian version to the public after actor Arnold Schwarzenegger asked them to do so, under the brand name Hummer. It is now sold by the General Motors.

It is an SUV(Sports Utility Vehicle). It can go through any difficult terrains. No doubt it was used by the US army. Its got commensurate fuel consumption and is one of the larger 4x4 type.

The brand name hummer was sold to General Motors in 1998 and they began to market and sell hummers made by AM General. They renamed original hummer as H1, and newer models H2 and H3 were made.Unlike the H1, which is a true off-road vehicle the H2, H3 and H4 are SUVs.

The Hummer H1

The hummer h1 was a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) without armours or weapons attached. The interior of HMMWV was changed for civilian use like including trim, comfortable seats, stereo radio, and air conditioning as standard option but the power-train, chassis, body, suspension, etc., were the same. The electrical system unlike HMMWV(which has two 12v battery in series i.e. 24v) has 12v supply with 2 batteries in parallel.

The Hummer H2

The hummer h2 called hydrogen was the second hummer that the General Motors(GM) brought for sale. The H2 is built under contract by AM General. The final frame assembly of the hummer h2 is made up of 3 sections:(i)The front which is a modified GM 2500-Series utility frame,(ii)the mid-section is all new and is completely boxed,(iii)the rear section has a modified GM 1500-Series frame that is upgraded for the 8,600 pound (3629 kg) gross vehicle weight.

Its got high ground clearance, protective under-body plates, and low gearing which makes the H2 capable of climbing over a 16-inch-high (0.4 m) vertical wall. It offers high stability against overturning compared to other SUVs owing to its massive truck frame and as it is slightly wider-than-average track.

The H2 is marketed as a general purpose vehicle and also as an off-road vehicle. Because of mass marketing by GM, it is primarily used as a passenger vehicle and not as an off road type. Along with the Ford Excursion, the H2 is also used as a vehicle for converting to limousine.

The Hummer H3

In 2006 GM introduced the hummer h3 which is the smallest of the hummers. Made for use as a pickup vehicle is used as a conventional SUV. It has a 3.7 L (3653 cc) Atlas straight-5 engine. The gear system is available as 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission with GM's Stabilitrak vehicle stability control. It has an electronically-controlled dual-speed transfer case and an electronic locking differential. The H3 has a "full-time four wheel drive", which means all the 4 wheels are powered permanently.

The Hummer H4

The baby hummer is on the way. Hummer h4 is proposed to be under construction at the GM Hummer division. It may be released in 2008 or 2009. It should be an SUV for city traffic. although this may change by the time it appears around 2010 – it will give the Hummer brand a vital weapon in the United States against premium-priced compact SUVs. This is a much smaller model. H4 is only the name that is proposed that the company will put to match with the older versions H1,H2,H3. The vehicle executives call the hummer HX. The vehicle will first be previewed as the Hummer HX concept car. It will be more fuel efficient compared to other hummers. It will have unparalleled off-road capabilities and like other current Hummers it would be recognizable from a distance. The HX was designed by the newest designers David Rojas, Min Young Kang and Robert Jablonski. It uses E85 bioethanol, and opens up to it through two removable roof panels.

The latest news is that it was shown in the 2008 NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTOSHOW. It is packed with excellent adaptable features like removable doors, flender flares, and roof panel. It also uses the E85 fuel. For complete review and pictures and images visit the link below.
