Playing Hunting Games - Traditional and Online

If there is any sport that could be considered the most basic to a human being, it would be hunting. Since time immemorial, man has survived by using his skills in hunting. He may not have had razor sharp fangs or claws that decapitate with one powerful swipe, but he is equipped with the best weapon of all - the human brain - and this has made him the most lethal hunter to ever walk the earth. But because of this very same thinking apparatus, man has not allowed himself to be confined to just hunting for survival. Other than hunting and foraging, man has learned to farm and to domesticate - so much so that he hardly ever needs to hunt anymore.

Traditional Hunting Games

Although hunting has all but disappeared as a means of survival, hunting has turned into some sort of sport. Hunting as a sport probably started when the kings of old would have their old ‘hunting games,' blood hounds, horses, crossbows, horns, and all. Over the years, these games evolved into something that involves good old rifles and some trusty binoculars. It became more of a family affair, something to be enjoyed between father and son. With the advent of taxidermy, it became some sort of venue for the acquisition of trophy head mounts, physical representatives of man's pride and prowess.

But while the population of man continued to grow, that of the hunted only continued to dwindle, some even to the point of becoming extinct. As a result, the only solution was to enforce rules and regulations. Hunting was no longer something that you could do anytime you desired. In fact, hunting became illegal if the hunting season wasn't open. While this is a very practical rule, it doesn't really bode well for the hunters who really take hunting very seriously. You see, as with every skill, hunting needs to be practiced regularly if you want your skills to be honed. Skills get rusty with lack of use, and with months to wait until the next hunting season, there's really nothing much that the hunters can do about it, except maybe to throw some apples into the air and attempt to shoot at them. But hang on, help is on the way.

Online Hunting Games

Recently, online hunting games have been rapidly gaining popularity on the web, not only for the serious hunters but also for the people who have never even held a rifle in their hands before. Admittedly they'll have to fumble a bit before they can grasp the game. These games, while hard to understand at first for non-hunting folk, are perfect for wiling away the hours while waiting for the next hunting season. If you think that they're only point and shoot games like the ones in your local arcade, then you're very wrong. These hunting games incorporate all the aspects of real hunting into the player, machine interface. You get to deal with weather, foliage, speed, distance, and all of the other factors that come into play when you're out in the forests aiming for that elusive prey. Not only that, you also get to have a go at the different types of weapons or rifles available; allowing you to learn which situation garners the need for a specific weapon and such. These online hunting games also help you to get to know your prey more by training you to anticipate their movements, thereby making it easier to aim. It's more of a mental training, really. Every hunting game offers you several tips and tricks, leaving you more prepared for the different situations that you just might encounter the next time you go hunting.

There are many different types of hunting games on the internet. Some hunting games, particularly those with a lot more features, require the user to pay before he or she can play. But there are also some free hunting games online, so those who are trying to save money need not fret, there are games for you too. There are also hunting games that are semi-free, meaning that you can play for free for the earlier levels but you have to pay if you want to advance to the more challenging ones. I kind off like these as they give you a chance to get to know the theme of the game before laying out any money. One really cool feature of these online hunting games is that they allow the user to go on multiplayer mode and play with their friends online in a virtual hunting game.

Probably the most popular online hunting games are the deer hunting games that not only simulate a real hunting session but also throw in a dash of excitement and thrill by having grizzly bears attack the hunter and other such situations.

Perhaps the only downside to online hunting games is that they can leave you with a decent amount of flab if you get too carried away with them. Even if your mind and your fingers are working overtime, your body is still idle in that comfortable chair you're sitting on. So, don't forget to do a bit of exercise or else you might just be too heavy to sprint after that deer when open season rolls around.

Isn't it amazing how the internet has allowed so many people to experience things that they would never ever have been able to, even if it is just a pale imitation of the real thing. I only hope that the armchair hunters get professional trainning before they come a shootin' in my area!!!

I can see the benefits of these types of games as far as mental training but nothing beats the real thing!
