hyperhidrosis information
64Hyperhidrosis
The name hyperhidrosis refers to a excessive sweating condition. Hyperhidrosis can be termed as 'primary' or 'secondary', depending on how it startd, symptoms that are present and how frequent it is. Primary hyperhydrosisi starts around puberty/teenage years, and as afar as science knows, appears to be a genetic trait passed on through the bloodlines from parents.
Secondary hyperhidrosis can start from a trigger event later in life, usually after puberty, but cases show it can start before or during this time also. Secondary hyperhidrosis can be very severe. Trigger events include menopause, gout, tumors, pituitary disorders and other such body changing factors. These is usually a good reason for the onset of secondary hyperhidrosis.
Medicine experts and Doctors classify hyperhidrosis into several locations around the body. We have summarised these below:
- Palmar: excessive sweating of the hands
- Axillary: excessive sweating of the armpits
- Plantar: excessive sweating of the feet
- Facial: excessive sweating of the face (i.e. not emotional or thermal related blushing)
- Cranial: excessive sweating of the head, especially noted around the hairline
- General Hyperhidrosis: Overall excessive sweating
Hyperdidrosis is unusual to individuals. This can mean triggering its onset, tends to be secific to the individual. Some common trigger events include being nervous, embarrassment, physical activity or exertion, stimulation from such things as laughter to alcohol, foods such as caffine, nicotine, beer, hot foods, spice or garlic, smells or other tastes.
The effects of sweating for many people, interferes quite extensivley with normal life. For example, imagine trying to grasp objects while your hands are pouring with sweat..it can be a terrible affliction. I know myself, that with my job involving filling out paperwork with clients, that sweating hands and forearms, was a terrible embarrassment for me. Usually, after noticing the sweat, the embarrassment would lead to more hyperhydrosis, and before long I was sweating profusely all over.
In many people, the series of events can happen very quickly. Often, this leads to pre-hyperhidrosis anxiety. Before you even start to perspire heavily, you become so nervous and fearful of the event, that it in itself triggers the process. People at this stage usually require some sort of treatment to effectivly live their lives.
Many people have had alot of success with hypnosis and sweating. The first steps involve managing the mental side of the fear, and controlling the anxiety that is associated with it. Often, manageing this will cure the cleints entire hyperhydrosis problem all together. For many sufferers though, this is but a step in the process of becoming hyperhidrosis free for good.
Still by far the most popular and reported effective method, is to use a natural cure to correct the imbalance in the body that can trigger excess sweating. Such cures work very well, and personally this is how I manage my sweat problems, and believe me, my problems were very severe and my symptoms very harsh. You can see more on how I cured my sweating issues here.

Hi Joanne,
thanks for this wonderful hubpage! I think you've done a great job at helping people to gain a quick understanding of this condition.
I suffered from hyperhidrosis myself (axillary), and I didn't know that it actually was a medical condition, so I hope you help others to find a solution too.
