i want to die on a rainy day
66
.
i want to die on a rainy day.
when the river overflows, so
shall my life. trickling down
the moistened earth to find
home among cocooned seeds.
i want to die on a rainy day.
on a wednesday, middle of
the week. only the dogs will
sense the rapture and moving
on will not be an affair even
if i roam the streets naked.
i want to die on a rainy day.
lying down on a bench under
a tree in a park somewhere.
while strangers grapple with
umbrellas, my final breath
shall find the greying clouds
past dreamcatching leaves.
i want to die on a rainy day.
and i will play the guitar as
i ebb. certainly not sunshine
on my shoulders. definitely.
(stale cigarrettes, anyone?)

Very moving, Cris. You almost make me want to die on a rainy day, too. Hehe. :D
Nice job. Today is a good day to die.
will not be an affair even
if a roam the streets naked.i want to die on a rainy day...
but as only as God wills...You are such a sweet person/Man/ guy/ friend/hubby/caring person/ can I move in :O) Hugs always and forever
crawling with emotional agony ,deep with emotional pain, honest as rain always is, red-raw neons flashing. thankyou for a touching poem.
And I thought only rainy days and Mondays always got one down! You make wanting to die sound romantic Cris - what more can I say? But play your guitar and come to life, not ebb away, will you? :)
Very poetic.
Could it not be rainy AND sunny? I love the rain, but the clouds make me frown.
Don't do it we need more poetry from you!
Hey thanks you guys. This one just popped, like a bolt of lightning (okay I may be overdoing it). It's been raining here for over a week now - no i'm not complaining but, well, the mood calls for it.
Thanks for dropping by, I feel the warmth despite. :D
Cris I am not ready to go yet but you sure make It seem palatable with these verses ! However If you roam the streets naked they may remove you dyin on your terms !
tony
you've a point there - i guess i am more ok to go on a rainy night? LOL thanks for dropping by :D
Hey it finally rained here yesterday and everyone's thinking about life again! :) Why are you being so morbid Chris, albeit in a beautifully poetic way?
FP
I don't think I was being morbid - the poem works on the premise that I have a say on how or when I should go. Besides I didn't say I want to die now! LOL
And so you know - I really really love the rain. Death is not a morbid proposition if you don't fear it :D Thanks for dropping by my friend :D
Very moving Cris. So emotional. I absolutely loved it.
I just knew you were going to say that...about death not being morbid. :P And long may you have the freedom of choice my friend! :)
TM
I'm here to please. Thanks for dropping by as always :D
FP
I knew you expected that from me! Ha! LOL Of course, I jest... anyhow, I'm glad you're getting some rain... hope it does all my friends in your country good :D
Man, this is morose. And yet, it's good for the soul to think about the day of death. Very nicely written, by the way. I think I'll die on a Sunday, after church in the middle of the afternoon. That would be just fine.
This is really something Cris...I'm afraid I don't have the words come as easliy for me as you do, but I just had to tell you how much I loved this...
And the last part about "certainly not sunshine on my shoulders"...was terrific--a little bit of humor tacked onto the end, lol...
Great one, definitely!
I'd want to die on a snowy day. Would want the flakes to me bury on a Sunday on top of a bench... now how cool is that!!! :D . But yer choice mate if you wanna die on a rainy day. It's a good day to die admist the hazy vision.
Between did I tell you I really like the poem? :O
benji
hey there stranger! morose indeed! LOL well, this is the closest I can get to accepting the fact that it will happen someday. better have I say about it at least. :D
tammy
glad you love this one. really. and thanks for saying so.
well, a little humor won't hurt. might as well have a go at it if only for the last time. thanks for dropping :D
Cris,
This is powerful poetry and the force is with you.Long after your life force is gone poetry remains,in beautiful defiance.
It's raining now, but you're not going anywhere. Not just yet. More to write, more to read.
nazish
as i could only dream of snow, i'd choose to die on a more familiar death. but who knows in death i'd finally experience snow :D thanks for dropping by my friend :D
MindlessBrute
Indeed, we're not completely gone even if we've gone. Thanks reading :D
jewels
If i have a say, yes, not just yet :D
The master writes again...rain...death...smile. LYM! :)
beautiful beautiful words cris a - gave me goosebumps - reaches in to touch the very core of living and life and when and how and the fact that we don't have a choice but maybe it could just happen the way you want if you put it down on paper - so gentle and rich - particularly liked
"my final breath shall find the greying clouds past dreamcatching leaves."
There is something about water that I have always found enthralling, it can be rain, thunder, a lake, the ocean, water fountains, and yes even a shower, so this sounds like a good way to go, but am not ready juuust yet. ;) I love the way you captured mortality and infinity within the rain.
Tom
yeah some of my favourite words too! LYM :D
ajcor
I agree, a final say on the final day - at least here on earth. thanks for dropping by :D
VioletSun
I agree, there something about water that recalls mortality....somewhere. Thanks for dropping by :D
It's incredible to me, how the major events that alter our lives can happen while people go on about their business, unfazed by our affairs.. our living, our dying.
This is beautiful.
candie
we were born alone so I guess, we'll die alone. but there is the rain... :D
It has just started raining here, turning the fields to a beautiful luminiscent green and the cool breeze has vanquished the scorching summer heat. I know in the months to come, I will curse the non-stop rain, but yes, today I feel, I agree with your poem. Very pretty.
Wow Chris, you are good! I love this one. Every verse a poem on its own.
Mmmmm, me too.
diana
so i've heard from FP. Good for you - if that's what you want and need. thanks for dropping by :D
Russ
Thanks man! But I still can't haiku! LOL Glad you like this :D
RB
You, too what? LOL Thanks for dropping by :D
Wow – you make it sound pre-determined, gentle, cyclical, and peaceful, all at once. Then again, a combination of rain, a bench under a tree, and a guitar sounds just right.
zollstock
don't forget the cigs, stale though they are. thanks for reading :D
Hi Cris,
When it rains, it's really good to write about mortality and immortality. Like dying, good byes are also good subjects under a rainy afternoon. As always, I drowned in the images of your poetry! The images make me want to die now but of course, only if I could rise from the dead on a lovely evening.
Hey france
Yeah, what is about the rain? If only there's coming back from death if we changed our minds. Thanks for dropping by as always :D
grappling with umbrella's struck a chord with me.... who invented those things, imagine the last thing you see before you die, is someone struggling with a stupid umbrella blowing inside out.... You would die laughing,,,,,,,,,,,,, x
It was pouring down when a family member of mine died in hospital..... The cleaner was trying to throw us out of the place, and said " no tears." " Our family member has just died" we said, she looked out of the window, saw the rain, and said," and the weather will be a lot bloody better where she is I hope"...... Then we were laughing.....
brenda
i would probably be too busy to notice or find humor anything if i'm certain of death. but that's not a bad prospect, i mean dying laughing - i say why not?
Now that's one funny woman indeed! LOL death ain't so bad afterall, now is it? :D
i want to die on a dark night under the moon's light.
My second choice would be a rainy day but overall this is a very cool thought for death that is if we had a choice LOL... nice one cris but i guess when we all think of our time here we know that we haven't used the best of it and made a difference :D
Uriel
ah if only we have a choice. and thanks for the reminder, might as well make a difference before I start wishing for rain. thanks for dropping by my friend :D
Now I would love rainy days thinking that Cris, my dying friend, will be enjoying his death.
Wattup doc? Glad you dropped in for a visit - I'm well physically but as you can see, I'm kinda emoting - darn weather! (but I'm loving the grey skies just the same) :D
And bury me under the Sycamore tree. Rain is nice. This is a good day to die! I have too much to do though. I love the poem Cris, it speaks of your innermost being. You will be all washed up for your meeting of the Spirit who carries you on Angels wings. Speaking of which you now resemble on of Aphrodite's sons. I need to think now whaich one in particular. hmmm he doesn't smoke tho'. I have one thank you.
Poet would not be a poet, if he does not connect with the moment of death (one day in the future). I like your verses and imagination.
I do not see death like end of life (just of the body) actually death is the beginning of new life and new choices, so why not to talk about it?
My vision of leaving this life includes red- orange sunset...the end of the day...and a lot of joy.
Thumbs up, Cris.
C.
Do what needs to be done, my friend. And I believe you about meeting the spirit, your wisdom I do not question.
I do? Good, I like that. Thanks for dropping by my friend. It's alwats nice when you see about me :D
Tatjana
I admire your view on life and death - it is so light and not morbid at all. And I like your vision of your departure - I could write a poem about it! LOL Glad you like this one and thanks for reading :D
Cris..you have elevated dying to a romantic and enjoyable experience, playing the guitar and all . I find rainy days gloomy, but anyway it's your day and if you want to choose a rainy day..fine.Anyway I do hope it is a rainy day on your 100th birthday!:)
It's a rainy day today, here. But (knock on wood) I don't think I'll shuffle just yet.
lyla
Yeah better romantic than morbid! LOL 100th bday?! I'd like to live long but not that long! Anyway, I hope you liked this one despite the subject. Thanks for reading.
Teresa
Hey pal! No and I'm not about to thrown in the towel either - not just yet. But just in case... a rainy day would be super, okay not super but fine! :D
Thanks Cris - add to my vission - little peaceful meadow on the wild, rocky mountains and view on the sparkling deep blue see (this scenario is 20 miles from the place where I live)... and sense of connection with everyone in this universe in the waves of pure love...
People are afraid of death, that is the reason that many think that talking about it must be morbid...but it is not. Life cannot be destroyed, there is nothing but life in this universe. Everyone of us creates the moment of departure - with visions...poems... and with the style of life.
Your poem is even better now, when I read it for third time!!!
Tatjana
I hope that when your time comes, it's all you've expected and envisioned it to be. Wave of pure love... I wanna see and feel it too!
Your views really are refreshing, it adds more to the beauty of life - here and beyond. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, they are very much appreciated, :D
There is somethng somber about a rainy day. It seems the right time to go. You did a wonderful job of making passing away an almost comfortable exercise.
Pete
If only the business of that final act, that swan song, is left to us entirely then I'm okay to go when my name's called. Thanks for reading, I appreciate it :D
Such a great poem and do Google say great poem Chris, nah they give you a Childrens Rainwear advert, life is strange but me I want to die on a sunny day an a beach in Spain where I know I shall gasp my last with a smile on moi face ; )
BC
LOL let's not get into that! Anyway, your "last wish" sounds up your alley - so you. Thanks for reading :D
For me rain is comfort, familiarity, like an old worn coat and as easy to shrug off. That would be the perfect day to die. Feeling safe but resisting little while crossing over. Perfect.
every day above ground -is a good one.
RB
That's a nice way of putting it. An old coat... yea, perfect :D
Eagle
I know and I do relish every single day. This is just but a thought about the inevitable :D
i want to die quick and painless whatever day it is...
That was wonderful. As I have grown older and the winters of New England become more difficult to get through I always pray for one more spring and summer and just enough fall, and then when I must go, let it be on a day when I would not go out to play anyway.
bingskee
I think that's one of the more popular, um...options. Thanks for reading :D
Dan
That's very practical and I see the wisdom in it. Thanks for the nice comment. Glad you like this :D
Question : The most difficult subject for you to write about (in poetry)?
nazish
I haven't though of that... and now that I think about it, well it's a tough one alright! I'll think about it and will probably just email you what I come up with, okay? I'll have to reread everything I have written so far and think back :D
Hey Cris, I lurved this one! Another beautiful way to view a rainy day. I am not afraid of death. I have learned that when you let some things die in your life, it brings birth to other great things. :-)
Hi Cris, I'm drawn to water hence my nicknames...ripplemaker and raindrop (yes, sometime ago, I had an email with that nick!) LOL It's nice how the weather just brings all these warm feelings inside.
Hey Whikat
That's the attitude! Yeah, fearing death would take the bite out of life. Thanks for dropping by :D
Michelle
It seems there are more people who love the rain than actually it dislike it. Glad to know we're of the same view. And nice thought about your hubber name. Thanks for sharing :D
I love the rain!! ( more than the hot sun)
Eagle
I do too. If only I know how to do the raindance LOL :D
You make it sound so enticing! I think I want to die on a rainy day also! Wednesday seems the perfect day, cocooned in the seeds. I think I have a new favorite. Thanks Cris, you always find new ways to make my day! :D
I'm far from one who can judge a poem, but I think this was lovely. There have been times in my life that I was so happy that I felt I could die happily in that particular mental state. This poem brought that feeling to mind, as if it were not an unhappy occasion.
It's raining healthily here today-- welcome after a dry spell and a longer dry forecast yet to come. I'm looking forward to life and growth in my vegetable garden.
Not too sure how you managed to make make the most depressing of all topics somehow palatable. That's what good writing does. Liked this a lot!
LOL Cris, you must hate me for that ... but who cares! :p . The answer is worth it! :p.
k@ri
I'm glad this made your day, despite the, well conventionally morbid subject matter. And yes, it ain't all that bad. Thanks for dropping by :D
Rochelle
I agree, moments come when we all think, hey I'm okay to go. Anyway glad to hear you're getting the rain the that you need and good luck on that vegetable garden of yours :D
MotherH
I'm not sure either, I just write whatever I feel like writing, Thinking too much about things sometimes form a wall rather than breaking it. Anyway, glad you liked it :D
nazish
I haven't gotten back to thinking about it. But I will, promise! :D
Hello, Cris -- Taking off from the premise that I don't want to die, but knowing that I will anyway, I hope to go as poetically as you propose. Besos!
Elena
It seems many people realize that dying on a rainy day is a good way to go - of course basing on the premise that dying and death is not totally a morbid inveitability. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts - besos! :D
only you can make death sound beautiful
as long as it's beautiful! LOL thanks for reading :D
Hey, Hey Cris, this was well written and powerful, but you are not going anywhere---rain or shine. Remember I invited you to go with me on a space craft ---we have places to go and things to say and see.
Cris, This poem is so you! I didn't find it morbid at all. I always feel most alive on rainy days, so to me it makes perfect sense. You want to go out fully feeling, taking a vivid memory of the world with you. Love the idea of the guitar, too! MM
Ginn
I didn't say now or soon, did I? LOL Yes yes, we have so many things to do. So don't count me out just yet. This is but just a thought :D
MM
A woman after my own heart! Cool! Yeah I'd like to go before life leaves me... weird! LOL Yeah, wie'll rock and jam in the afterlife! :D
Depressing, yet squishy. You're a master! ;-)
I just wrote and posted that I didn't find this morbid at all. Finding the best moment to go must be the ultimate and I hope that we all do experience that moment. I hope that I have a sensation like rain, or guitar music, or the tatse of coffee, or the sound of voices that I love .... you said it really.
AW
Squishy?! I'll look that up! LOL
Iphi
Yeah, at least I wou;d want to have a say about how I'd like to go, It should make things easier...I think. Thanks for reading :D
Iphigenia -- I like your tactile additions. The full-on perfect death experience would include time of year, day of week, weather, sounds, smells, tastes, and ideally, the touch of loved ones.
But hopefully none of us will be facing this anytime soon. Too much hubbing yet to do -- and miles to go before we sleep:-). MM
I love this poem - it was so peaceful and calm - it read to me like a love letter with Death - you'll find me in the rain, waiting. I'm in love with rain and if we were able to choose I would like to go in a heavy rain on a summer night. Ah, anyway, stupendously done!
A lot of emotion wrapped up in there... beautiful job ;)
greatnees pure greatness in text form, its hard to find anyone that knows how to write poetry let alone do it this good.
Azur
I suppose death should come to us like that - peaceful and calm. Though it would be nicer if we can have our say how we'll go about it :D
Janetta
Glad you like this. Thanks for reading :D
blind8
Thanks for the kind words. Well I try to express it the best I can. Thanks for dropping by :D
now I have learned how to get to you quickly I am here once more, going out though now, so you can have some peace, imagine if one day all 500 fans left you a message........ Are you the most popular hubber?????????????? there are certainly lots of comments after this poem already.... well done you....
brenda
LOL where you off to? Anyway, I hope to catch up with you later. I hope you wax poetic again in your next hub!
I don;t think so, but most of "my fans" are very the vocal type - they want to be heard all the time and I like that about them (that includes you, of course!) :D
going to pick kids up from school.................
I lead such a boring life at the moment, that i dont have much inspiration, the seagull on the roof on the house behind mine has been my only company today...... Now I will have reuben to keep me awake for a couple of hours........... There is a harbour with seals down in the town, and I have been watching the weather beaten fishermen throwing the bits of fish to the seals, it feels very poetic, but just putting it together is not easy....... ah well I have it half written. Also went to the theatre with a class last week they performed Pied Piper, may write a hub about that, it is just I am so lazy at the moment, enjoying reading everyone elses then decide not to bother myself x
brenda
okay, do what you must...
the would-be poem sounds lovely basing on how you described it. don't pressure yourself though into finishing, it'll flow when it wants to.
I do have my lazy days, I guess it's the calm before each writing frenzy. You know how it is. But I;m glad to hear you'reworking on new material. I am too. But just like you, I;m waiting for the momentum to build :D
Loved your poem Chris. It is raining, cold and gloomy today. Suits my sombre mood of the moment
Very moving. I love rainy days and to die during it would be peaceful.
sixty
ah glad this one suits the mood perfectly. but do not wallow, you still have to hub! :D
RGraf
Glad you like this. Thanks for dropping by :D
You write good stuff! I loved the poem Thanks
The most brilliant way to describe the most intimate and most passionate season of the year, the rainy season. If death were to find me as well on this kind of day, then so be it! Beautiful, Cris.
alek
Thanks, glad you like this :D
Sandy
I knew you love the rain to, my friend. As I've said, we're two of a kind - ha! Thanks for reading and commenting. It's always a pleasure to see you :D
Chris Still not hubbing yet. waiting for Godot or something!
Cris - I like your ideal death. Perhaps to go gently ... on a melancholy day is indeed a good way to depart. No fuss, no fight
I rather hope I die kicking and screaming about the fact that I'll go when I'm a good and ready. And telling the Grim Reaper to bugger off and come back another day,
sixty
Hey don't wait too long now, if I remember right, Godot did not show his face! :D
froggy
It seems we have different ideas on how we'd rather go. While I go quietly and suddenly hears screaming and scuffle, I'm gonna be sure it's you!
Coffee's on me when we see each other later wherever! You bring the cigs! :D
Cris - *cough* there you go *malboro in motion* ... catch ;)
You stole the words right out of my mouth. There was no way I could create such a beautiful poem out of my suicidal hub. I'll keep this one in mind. It's not what you think?! ahahaha. I gotten over it.
I am in a cigarette-drenched coffee-house in Soho. 1958. Beatnicks. Drunk on cheap red wine. You are wearing sun-glasses and are dressed in black. We listen with rapt, yet broken attention. I relish the moment that you have written. Much appreciation.
FD
Got it! No more stale cigarettes for me! thanks :D
hey may
Long time no see! how are you? anyway, glad you dropped by. LOL okay, it's not what I think! :D
cailin
Wow I'd like to be there as it sounds like a place I can only dream about! thanks for dropping by :D
Rain is O.k. but when the same rain washes lives,no more treated as drops of tear in the eyes of heaven.Allow the rain to wash out all the impurities and refresh every thing.Cris A sounds good like a guitar in a rainy day live long till the rain ends.
Rainy days are a good time to cuddle in front of the fireplace and drink mulled wine. Come join me you cute chain-smoking angel ;)
s.pallai
wow your comment is very poetic, i like it. thanks for reading and bring on the rain! :D
Aya
anytime, just say when :D
Cool. Even dying rocks on this page. You're the man!
sheena
LOL where are you anyway? :D
My most cherished friend was buried on a rainy day. Not quite the same, but I wish I had this poem at the time. Your writing makes me feel better about that day.
Barb
I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad to note that this poem made things a little easier thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts
I do not want to die YET, Cris, my 20th fan, no place, no where, no sun, no rain, just peacefully in bed one night, when dreams slip slowly into the deepest sleep, but not for a very long time as I have things to do unrelated to hubbing
katy
yeah, first things' first! :D
take a look at Cat Stevens video it's up there somewhere just google it.... all the way through is children splashing in puddles, wondered who had copied who..... or are you kindred spirits... x his new one...
Brenda
As you probably know, I'm not privy to anything Cat Stevens - we just probably share the sentiments is all - and so do you :D
Loved your poem! Just wanted to say hello from Seattle :) it hasn't rained for a few days and the next time it does, I'll think of your poem.
open-minded
well hello to Seattle from the Philippines! That was a nice thing to say about this poem. Thanks, I hope it rains soon in your part of the world if it's what you want :D
this truly is an insight
Brenda
Hey thanks my friend, I truly appreciate that :D.
PS I'm on dial up, my connection was cut off after a storm, thus my sporadic presence on HP! Hopefully my ISP will sort it out tom.
Dude, your poetry is so "emo," but it rocks! I want to die by water too, but let it be via a twenty-plus foot wave. Write more poems please. Oh, and your Photoshop work, (presuming the imagery on your hubs is yours), is inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Check out "Cafe'" at: http://hubpages.com/hub/Poetryofpassion
Christian
Darn! I guess I failed at avoiding the emo trap then! LOL What a mighty wave that would be - are you a surfer? yeah, the images on my Photoshop hub are mine (well I pieced together pics from the net)
Cool, I'll check out the link! :D
Came back for another read. Still the same effect. You are so good at what you do when you do it. :)
PM
But it's the comments like yours that make me think that I'm doing something good - that's why I keep on doing it. Thanks for rereading :D
I like this a ton. Thanks for sharing...you have a unique voice
yazoo
That was kind of you, thanks! Glad you liked this :D
Cris just to think you very nearly got your with,,,,,, don't wish for anything it may just happen help....
I did say on a rainy day but did not mean stormy floody day! hahaha but yeah, i should be careful... :D

I'll have one of those. Thanks. "shall find the greying clouds past dreamcatching leaves." Love those lines especially. Yes, it's no good dying on a sunny day.
