The iPhone is a smartphone developed by Apple Inc. with functions of
iPod, digital camera, internet, text messages (SMS), visual voicemail
and Wi-Fi spot. The interaction with the user is done through a
touch-sensitive screen. Apple reported more than two hundred patents
related to technology that created the iPhone.
The device
is available for a price of $ 199 for the 8GB model or $ 299 for a 16GB
at Apple Store and AT & T Mobility. Announced on January 9, 2007,
the iPhone was launched on June 29, 2007 in the U.S. on 9 November 2007
in Germany and the UK, and November 29 in France. In 2008 will be
launched in the Asian market and the rest of Europe. In Portugal,
initially will be sold by Vodafone. Was launched on July 11, 2008,
until January 2008 were sold four million iPhones and only during
the weekend to launch the iPhone 3G, Apple claims to have sold 1
million units of the apparatus.
Phone Functions
The iPhone allows conferencing, call waiting, the union calls, the call
identifier and integration with other services to mobile operators and
functions of the iPhone. For example, a song is gradually discontinued
when the user receives a call. Once the call is ended the music
gradually returns to play.
The iPhone includes a Visual
Voicemail feature of ( 'Visual Voicemail') in partnership with AT &
T Mobility, which allows users to see the current list of voice
messages waiting. Unlike the other systems, messages can be heard out
of order, just picking up the desired message in the list. AT & T
completely reformed its infrastructure of Voicemail to accommodate this
new feature developed by Apple.
SMS messages are presented
chronologically in a mailbox, for very similar to Apple Mail, which
places all the messages of the containers along with the answers. Text
messages are displayed in balloons in comics (like iChat) under each
name the recipients. In the January 1.1.3 update has been added to
support multiple items of SMS.
Touch-Sensitive Screen
The touch-sensitive screen HVGA (320 × 480 px at 160 ppi) with optical
quality glass was specially created to be used with a finger, or
multiple fingers for multi-touch sensitivity. You do not need a stylus
pen, and none can be used, since the system is sensitive only to the
capacitance of the human skin. For this reason, can sometimes be
uncomfortable handling the device, as in cold regions where users have
to take your gloves to use the touchscreen.
For text input, the device has a virtual keyboard on the screen,
with a system of spelling, forecasting a dictionary of words and
intelligent that has the ability to learn new words. For new users the
system can be frustrating in the beginning, with failures of simple as
pressing wrong keys and typing rhythm. Apple has released videos on
their website explaining how to properly interact with the system.
The multi-touch can not only execute commands by tapping the
screen, but go beyond, scrolling lists with the slide of the finger and
zoom in and out images with the movement of the thumb forceps and the
indicator. The screen is capable of recognizing simultaneous touches,
allowing the phone recognize gestures and offer a richer interaction,
allowing the user to 'manipulate' the objects. Steve Jobs showed the
first public presentation of the product in January 2007, use of the
feature to browse albums by cover of music (Cover Flow, use that
existed in iTunes) to do the zooming of photos and maps and to explore
pages in the Safari Web browser, focusing on specific pieces of the
screen by moving the clamp of the thumb and index, and clearly
stretches, such as photos or columns with a double tap of the finger.
Camera
The iPhone has a camera of 2.0 megapixels, which has no function or
macro flash. The quality of the camera is highly criticized by experts
in photography, consider that the very poor model for the resources
that the phone offers. It is not possible to record videos and
send the MMS, but with the unit unlocked and released for installation
of third-party applications, you can install the application "Iphone
Video Recorder, which records video of satisfactory quality.
The user can zoom in the pictures just stretching your fingers to move
the clamp of the thumb and the indicator on the screen multi-touch. The
software can interact with iPhoto, available on Macintosh computers.
Pictures of users around the world learned with the iPhone camera can easily be found using the Flickr.
Connectivity
The browser displays web pages complete, unlike the simplified pages that are displayed on non-smartphones. The iPhone also has Bluetooth 2.x + EDR built, working with wireless headphones that use Bluetooth 2.0.
An agreement between Apple and Google has access to a specifically modified version of Google Maps - in map format, local or satellite list, which also optionally provides traffic information in real time. During the announcement of the product, Jobs demonstrated this feature by looking for a shop near the Starbucks coffee shop and making a call to it with a simple tap on the screen.
Operating System
Apple confirmed that an optimized version of the operating system Mac
OS X (without unnecessary components) runs on the iPhone, but the
differences between the operating system (OS X) running on Macintosh
computers and the iPhone have not been officially explained. The iPhone
has an ARM CPU, and the version of OS X that runs on the iPhone than
the desktop version because it was written for the ARM architecture of
instructions instead of x86 and PowerPC ISA in the version of OS X for
Mac was written.
The operating system takes about 300 MB of total device in 8 or 16
gigabytes. This made him capable of supporting future applications
from Apple, which plans to offer a simple and practical way to update
the iPhone's operating system , in a similar fashion and clean the way
in which Mac OSX and iPod are updated, and this is a great advantage
when compared with other cell phones.
Widgets are similar to those available in the Dashboard of Mac OS
X were included in the iPhone. They include information on market
shares and widgets for weather and time.
The iPhone version of OS X also includes the software component of
Core Animation, which is responsible for the smooth animations used in
the user interface. Core Animation is part of Mac OS X v10.5.
The version of OS X on iPhone is apparently a "OS X 1.0 (1A543a),
as was seen in a log of a crash in the application MobileMail. The application was apparently being run as a super user.
Apple Store
Apple launched the iPhone 3G along with the App Store. Shop online for games and applications developed by third parties. The developers use the tools provided by the SDK to develop applications for both the iPhone (in its two versions) and for iPods Touch. Applications can be downloaded through the device (application of up to 10 MB) or from iTunes. Prices are set by the developers, and 70% of the application is with him, and 30% goes to Apple. The App Store is available in Brazil since the launch of the iPhone 3G, but presents a collection of little applications when compared with the U.S. App Store. One of the factors that support for this shortage is the fact the Brazilian App Store, there the "Games". What causes this is that the prosecutor requires the assessment and classification of age restriction is made for them, do not accept the American classification. In just over six months since the opening of the App Store, Apple announced that it was downloaded over 500 million applications for iPhones and iPod touch. Today, there are 15 thousand titles in store, divided into 20 categories - from games to applications for business.
