Not too long ago I was looking around in the iTunes store and discovered the section "iTunes U" which has an astounding number of great universities who have contributed recorded lectures and other materials that can be downloaded free. Of course you don't need iTunes to take advantage of the many thousands of courses offered as simple podcasts. Want to learn Japanese? There are many podcasts that deal with this subject. However, the quality of podcasts is extremely variable where the quality of mainstream universities can be counted on.
Maybe you're interested in world economics but never had the time or chance to study it in school. Or would humanities, literature or sociology be more your cup of tea? The Internet is an unmatched resource for improving the mind, something that needs to be done continually in order to take advantage of life after fishing. If you have any disabilities such as visual or mobility impairment, the Internet is doubly useful as there are now sites where you can have news and article read to you, including podcasts created from blogs on any subject under the sun.
Having you favorite blog read to you
With the rather unfortunate name of Pimp My News you can listen to blogs read by an understandable voice. Technology, entertainment, sports world and US news and many other categories are available for your listening pleasure. What a great idea!
