The Fall of Icarus - Peter Paul Rubens , 1636
The Fall of Icarus - Peter Paul Rubens , 1636

I dream of flying, eyes-open visions
daytime fantasies of fragile freedom;
dream of soaring in the cerulean skies
surrounded by sparkling sapphire
assured ecstasy in the azure heavens.

I mindfully manufacture the means
-an audacious escape from the mundane,
feathered and honeyed I form them
a fashion to fly, letting them dry
beneath the summer sun of pure passion.

excited I try on my home-made array
I feel the fresh breeze on my face
as I lift my new wings daring Fate
look longingly at the curled clouds,
hear the sensuous sun's siren song.

like Icarus I ascend, free now, flying
from the imprisonment of the solitary life;
a lone love silhouette in a sky of desire,
closer and closer to the sun I escalade
toward it's wondrous warmth I wander.

the fire on my face, my wings, my heart
discarding danger I approach in exhileration
smouldering, dissolving, disintegrating
as the sun's sultry glance transposes,
at once a golden glare I dare not look upon.

the honeyed sweetness that holds me
up against the sky begins to melt,
my feathers diffuse, scatter with the wind,
my butterfly heart plummets and I plunge
into the sea of idunnian delusions.

on the bottom of the ocean
I hold his hand in the dark
cherish our shared failure
whisper into the wetness
almost, icarus, almost

Profound. You have captured human desire, meanings of freedom and a touch of darkness... reality.

*glows* thank you so much, kushal.

somewhere between yoga and the rosary I keep stumbling face first up to the heart of darkness. I'm trying to face it, I think. carefully.

oh, thank you very much. it's a little apart from my usual style, and I wasn't sure at all about it, although I admit I liked my ending. it's so nice to get feedback. :)

Congratulations. What a nice poem. I think you can become a poet if you work a little harder. Thanks a lot, greetings.
