IS YOUR FAVORITE TRACK LISTED HERE?

The music of the sixties and the early seventies presented some real masterpieces by the artists of that period.

Although the explosion caused by the Rolling Stones era left me with no option than to "put on hold" some of the delightful tracks recorded by the likes of Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, and company, it is impossible to put such music "on hold" for long.

They keep coming back. They belong to you and you belong to them.

The best form of entertainment was available to us in that era, although it was just via the radio and access to vinyl records.

THE BEACH BOYS - I CAN HEAR MUSIC

CHICAGO - 25 OR 6 TO 4

BOB DYLAN - MR TAMBOURINE MAN

MANFRED MANN - MIGHTY QUINN

THREE DOG NIGHT - CHAMBALA

MUNGO JERRY - IN THE SUMMERTIME

PET SHOP BOYS - SUBURBIA

FROM THE SIXTIES TO THE NINETIES

Here is a very brief history of the music scene starting from the late sixties up to the late nineties.

Although I have not compiled it in any order, I hope you will find something of interest to you.

The Bee Gees identified their brand of music with hits like Massachusetts, Don't Forget To Remember, and following the trend right up to the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever.

The album Spirits Having Flown was a real masterpiece with hits like Too Much Heaven and the title track itself.

Chicago has been a favorite of mine with almost every track of theirs being well above the mark. Saturday In The Park, New York City, and 25 or 6 to 4 being amongst their very best.

Elvis Presley can never ever be replaced, not even matched.

The tracks from the movie Blue Hawaii alone would suffice to identify him as the superstar for all time.

In addition, his tracks like Little Sister, She's Not You, A Fool Such As I, Lonesome Cowboy, His Latest Flame and many more will never find equivalents anywhere.

The Beach Boys recorded a masterpiece called I Can Hear Music, while The Monkees had a hit entitled Take The Last Train to Clarksville.

Out of the females Nana Mouskouri was another who will find it impossible to go unnoticed.

Even now, her track entitled Even Now is well worth listening to.

Cliff Richard started off with Living Doll and in his continuity created memorable tracks like Visions, Sunny Honey Girl, It's All In The Game, and some of the songs from his movies.

Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, were more or less stars of the Rolling Stones, era.

Instrumental music was very popular at that time, with the Ventures and the Shadows dominating the guitar music scene.

The guitar wizard Chet Atkins was a solo artist with an identifiable style.

The orchestra of Billy Vaughn stood firmly as a unique outfit recording tracks of solid quality.

The track Chambala by Three Dog Nite was a hot favorite along with other interesting stuff like Mama Told Me.

Alan Price Set did not last for many years after releasing their hit, The House That Jack Built. Paul Williams broke away from them and formed his own band called Paul Williams' Set.

Mungo Jerry's qualifying hit, In The Summertime was followed by more tracks that kept them recognized for a while.

Eric Clapton initially was part of an outfit called Cream.

He went solo and continued to meet great success with tracks like I Shot The Sheriff, Layla, Wonderful Tonight, and Bob Dylan's Knockin On Heaven's Door.

Dave, Dee, Dozey, Beaky, Mick, and Tich holding on tightly to their hit track entitled Hold Tight, followed by many worthy hits like Don Juan.

Santana's popularity multiplied after music fans watched them perform Soul Sacrifice in the documentary film, Woodstock.

Much earlier, the Platters made their way into the scene with tracks that you will never get tired of. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Twilight Time, Harbor lights are just some of the many tracks.

Johny Preston's big hit Running Bear was popular almost in every country.

Something Good came from Herman's Hermits, with other tracks like There's a Kind of Hush.

Ha Ha Said the Clown by Manfred Mann, was followed by a fabulous hit, Mighty Quinn.

Lee Hazelwood teamed up with Nancy Sinatra to record an excellent track called Summer Wine.

Almost every track recorded by Bob Dylan was beyond comparison, with special emphasis on Lay Lady Lay, Blowing in the Wind, Don't Think Twice It's All Right, If Not For You ... well, I could go on and on!

Marty Robbins, a star from the Elvis Presley era, was unique in every way. He recorded two albums containing Hawaiian Melodies.

Some of the very well known tracks from these albums are Aloha Oe, Now Is The Hour, Hula Hands, and Sweet Leilani.

Paul Hardcastle made a brief stay in the scene with a fantastic hit entitled Nineteen.

The Pet Shop Boys' made several albums, out of which the track I like most is Suburbia. Madonna, the more recent of these stars never has to make way for anybody.

Just two of her tracks, Frozen, and Say Goodbye say everything you need to know. Like the other superstars, all her tracks are smashers.

Nikita, Cant You Feel The Love Tonight, Daniel, Sacrifice, and a Three Dog Nite hit called Your Song, are my favorite tracks of Elton John.

All these stars I am sure will live on and on and on.

WERE YOU EVER A FAN OF ANY FORM OF MUSIC?

I am sure if you are a music fan, if you ever liked any form of music, whatever your tastes have been, you, the reader of this hub would have at least one, or at most 5 of your favorites tracks in the list below, which happen to be my favorites in no order of preference.

Although there are many more in my list, I just picked these at random from a large list of my all time favorites.

However, if you don't find a single track here which is, or has been a favorite of yours, I would appreciate if you could scroll right down and kindly leave a short remark naming at least one of your favorite tracks, and the name of the artist.

A great list of songs. Many of those are favourites of mine.

Here's a few more:

Harry Chapin - His ballads shaped my life. Favouries are "Danceband on the Titanic", Flowers are Red, Story of a Life, A Better place to Be", Cats in the Cradle, Corey's Coming.

Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman was the first album I bought. His songs weren't the same after he found religion

Arlo Guthrie - Son of Woody - one of the original folkies. Wrote the classic Alice's Restaurant

Jimmy Buffet - Manana, Margaritaville, A Pirate Looks at Forty, Captain and the Kid

Bob Marley - Redemption Song

Then there's Leonard Cohen, Mary Black, Eric Bogle, Steeleye Span, Indifgo Girls, etc, etc. Far to many to mention :-)

Thanks for this hub. Brought back some great memories.

And now, you can carry a whole history of music around in your shirt pocket. I love my IPod!

I am surprised. When Saturday Night Fever was released the disco craze was set ablaz, right? The very name of the Bee Gees is synonymous with disco, is it not?

Thanks for your visit. :)

G'day quicksand, you have given us a very full list and I like most of them, although I've never been a big fan of the Stones.

I don't know how big the "Little River Band " were in America but they were a huge influence in Australia.

Hi agvulpes!

At least the Rolling Stones did not go unnoticed by you! :) I have not heard "The Little River Band," must check them out on u-tube. There was an Aussie band called "Diesel and Dust," that made waves, but they were more recent than the others discussed in this hub. The Seekers and the New Seekers were great too.

Your visit is much appreciated. :)

Hi Des!

Thanks a lot for adding your list of favorite tracks.

In the year 25 25 if woman is still alive, and man could survive ... I used to think that was by the Kinks. I probably confused that with the track "Ape Man." I remember the Who, and of course Eric Clapton's band, "Cream." The Who, and Jimi Hendrix were featured in Woodstock along with many other stars like, Ritchie Havens, Joan Baez, Sly & the Family Stone ...

You have a great website on the sixties music. Thanks once again for visiting. :)

Great list!!! I don't remember a lot of those as I was small, but I do remember "Running Bear", as I learned to play that on Western Steel Guitar and then played it a million times on the piano for my parents. Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven" is a classic that each generation has heard. "Mighty Quinn" I still enjoy that song. Thanks for the memories and callused fingertips.lololol , really thank you. :)
