Iguana are like marmite (you know marmite right?). Most people either love them or hate them. Admittedly to the unfriendly eye iguana are ugly critters and a lot of people don't understand how iguana can make good pets.

If you are looking for iguanas for sale there is a lot you need to know first. There is a lot of material out there on the web about iguana. Believe it or not these animals are quite big business. And the reason for this is that you can't just buy an iguana for sale, take it home and put a couple of bowls on the floor for food and water. An iguana requires some special care and has specific needs. For example, the iguana cage or habitat should be as close to replicating the heat and humidity of it's native environment as possible. They need warmth and humidity to remain healthy (because they are cold blooded but you knew that didn't you). In order to achieve this environment special equipment for the iguana cage needs to be purchased and installed. This can be quite expensive.

I seem to have given the non iguana folk out there another reason why iguana don't make great pets. Although if you found this page because you are looking for iguanas for sale then you probably have made your mind up already.

But seriously, iguana have great personalities, they don't mind being picked up and handled (unless they are unwell in which case my iguana sulks and won't let me near him. You can let them walk around your home as long as they have an iguana cage properly set up that they can return to as needed. I thought I'd lost my iguana the other day but found him on top of a wardrobe. I'm still not sure how he got up there. I know iguana are great climbers but he didn't seem to disturb anything on his way up. Quite an achievement for quite a large and usually clumsy iguana.

I like talking about my iguana and will continue to do so. I don't anticipate many readers but I'm hoping by putting 'iguanas for sale' in the heading I might catch a few people before they make the purchase and if I can highlight a few of the important facts they need to know before they buy their iguana then all well and good.

When I was looking for iguanas for sale I had no idea how to buy one or what was needed to look after an iguana. Lizards had always fascinated me as a child and where other children would cringe at the thought of having what looked like a baby dragon in their homes I thought it was wonderful.

When I got my first home that was it. I wanted an iguana! Now, where do I find iguanas for sale? It wasn't like I could walk into my local pet store and pick up an iguana.

This was in the early days of the internet and there wasn't much information about in those days for finding iguanas for sale. A friend of mine knew someone who worked in a big zoo in London so he asked her for advice. She got in touch with me and explained that it wasn't easy to find iguanas for sale in a non native country. I knew that already!

Fortunately she put me in contact with a friend of hers who knew someone that had an iguana for sale. As is usually the case the owner had to downsize his property and didn't have the room or time anymore to provide adequate care for his iguana.

His loss was my gain. I sought advice beforehand from a local vet about the necessary paperwork and check ups I would have to do before I bought the iguana and it all checked out.

It would be a long task for me to write out the legal requirements for owning an iguana for every single country and as of today there aren't any web sites out there that provide this information.

My advice would be to contact your local vetinarian and if you ask nicely they may give you a few minutes of their time to give you advice on finding an iguana for sale and how to go about it.

Iguana Imports

It sickens me when I think of all the iguana that suffer from being captured from their native homes and kept in incredibly poor condition and then stuck in a box for transit to a western country where hopefully someone thinks it would be cool to buy an iguana because it might impress their friends or girlfriend only to find out that it takes a lot of effort to properly care for an iguana and they end up giving it away to a sanctuary, throwing it back in the wild or even just letting it die from neglect.  Please think about the responsibility you will have if you buy an iguana and think about where you are buying the iguana from.  If a shop has iguanas for sale then ask them where they obtained them.  Dig a little deeper people and stop these disgusting importers treating these animals like dirt for the sake of a few bucks.

Much iguana love

Some myths about iguana care

So much bullshit surrounds the caring of iguana it's ridiculous.  With so much information out there about iguanas it's borderline neglect that people see an iguana for sale and think 'ooh, that would be good.  People might think I'm cool if I have a lizard in my appartment.'  Little do they know that these creatures aren't 'westernised'.  Sure, you throw it a bit of cold pizza and it might eat it.  It might even enjoy it and hope to get more from you.  But trust me, your iguanas body won't thank you for it.  The iguana has a very complex digestive system that is super efficient at digesting vegetables and not much else.  Feeding it crap will take its toll on your iguanas health.  Feed it properly.  Create a quality iguana enclosure that replicates it's natural environment as much as possible.  Read as much as you can about these pets and your iguana will be happy and healthy.  Just put some effort into your education about these wonderful creatures and you will be rewarded with a wonderful pet.
