Tips for Saving at the Pump
Tired of spending so much of y our hard earned money on gas? Well here are some tips on how to keep some of your bucks and even get better mileage in the process.
1) Plan ahead! Head to the AAA (American Automobile Association) online tool at: http://www.fuelcostcalculator.com/ and calculate an average miles per hour for your trip. Note there are not many cities listed there at this time, but you can get an idea for your make and model
2) The majority of your fuel burns up for many reasons other than simply getting you from point A to point B. In short, much fuel is wasted because of poor operating systems in your vehicle that are in need of tune ups, bad tires or tires not filled properly and many other assorted reasons. So get your vehicle in for a check up and log regular maintenance for it in the future.
3) Do your homework before you fill up. You can find out who has the cheapest gas prices before you buy with help form websites like: http://www.gasbuddy.com/ and with subscription services that are available via some cell phones and other handheld devices.
4) Look for specials to help cover costs like gas discount credit card programs and coupons. Shop for these online, too, at popular websites with tips to improve gas mileage and in local newspapers plus where you stop for gas regularly.
5) Stop driving everywhere. Take the bus. Carpool. Shop online. Order delivery services. Arrange errands together and go on one day instead of multiple days.
6) Stop letting your car warm up. It only needs a few seconds nowadays, instead of 15 minutes, like it used to take. And stop idling. Go instead to pick up your carryout, shutting off your car while you do this. Ditto for banking.
