How to Increase Web Traffic...

All of the following methods are Free Web Traffic generation methods that I have tried & tested myself. They have been key in generating Increased Web Traffic to my hubs. If you follow directions, these methods can do the same for you too! Due to limited time, I may not have the highest number of hubs in the world, but the ones I do have probably generate more traffic to them than those with 2 to 3 times the amount of hubs I have. This is all due to my personal web traffic generation methods listed below. I decided to write this hub because I've noticed that many fellow hubbers are struggling to generate consistent web traffic. I'd like to be of assistance ~ Read on & Learn...

1) RSS Feed: Really Simple Syndication is what RSS means. Adding an RSS feed to your hubs not only adds compatible third party news & information to your hubs, but it also adds regularly updated content to your hubs. And that is what you want as more bait to keep the search engine spiders flocking to your content. You can find RSS feeds all over the web - usually blogs, news and article sites always have one.

One feed I use is Google RSS. If you want to use Google RSS feed, simply click here - once you're there enter your search term at the top and press 'Search News' -- now click on the RSS button on the left side. After that just copy the link that appears in your browser and paste it in your rss module. That's it you're done! (Also, HubPages has a built-in Yahoo News Feed module you can add to your hubs with the Click of a Button!) The bottom line is just to use a feed that adds Value to your Topic and is Regularly Updated.

For the best probability of generating regularly updated content, I'd suggest using more broad one or two word terms with RSS. Play around with it a little, test it out!

2) Your personal hub RSS or Widget: Also be sure to include your own personal HubPage RSS feed on other sites as much as possible. You can find it by going to your profile and clicking ‘Subscribe to RSS feed'. The feed address will display in your browser and all you have do is copy & paste it on any other site that lets you include a feed. I usually put them on my blog which work like a charm.

But now even better looking than this, I feel, is the All New Widget that you'll find next to your RSS feed in your profile. This is basically the same as the RSS feed only it looks better! You will have to have a site that accepts coding called JavaScript in order to include this widget. Blogs usually accept it with no hassle. I just added the widget to my blogger blogs. Here's an example of it on my Viral Marketing Mix Blog...

3) Blog: And speaking of blogs, they are also a fantabulous way to generate increased web traffic to your hubs. All you have to do is write little paragraph summaries about your hubs on your blog and then add a link to your hubs. Make sure that your hub summaries that you feature on your blog matches your blog theme.

If you don't have a blog yet, you can set-up one for free at blogger.com or wordpress.com.

I use Blogger currently because it's easier and also I can include Google Adsense on it for free. Wordpress is great too and it does have its advantages. One of which is a better comment interface and more widgets. But at Wordpress you can't include Google Adsense unless you upgrade for a price. Again, both are good it's all about preference, just weigh out the pros & cons of each and take your pick.

4) Tags: Including at least 10 to 20 relevant tags about your hub will help you to start generating more targeted web site traffic. The great thing is that now HubPages helps make tagging SuperEasy with the All New - Automated Tag Generator. This technology basically scans your page and suggests relevant words and phrases that you can use as tags.

================================================================

5) Keywords: Using good keywords is another thing you should most definitely do to boost your hub traffic! It is important to learn How to Get the Right Keywords. Many people do not understand (or are completely clueless) as to what keywords are. It's real simple: Keywords are very similar to tags only more Surefire. What I mean by this is that keywords are words & phrases that people actually input at search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Using relevant keywords throughout your hubs and in your tags helps lead people searching for your topic straight to your hub like a magnet<<< Start using relevant keywords in your hub and it can very well skyrocket you to the top of the search engines for the keywords that you've optimized your hubs for. Prime search engine listings will translate into ongoing search engine traffic for you.

6) Comments: Visiting other hubs and posting genuine comments is not only good HubPage community camaraderie, but it also helps to generate more traffic to your hubs. Do Not write spam comments which are solely just to promote your hubs. That's the wrong approach. Take the time to read the hub that the writer has crafted and post genuine comments only.

Also don't just limit comments to HubPages -- start commenting on outside sites & blogs around the web in the same manner. Most blogs will have a special web address box that you can leave your hub link. You could either put a link directly to a specific hub - or one linking to your HubPages profile. Both methods are good. I personally prefer to include a link to one of my hubs that relates to the topic that I'm commenting on.

7) Include a Comment Module: I'd recommend that you should always include a comment module on your hubs, simply because it makes your hub social by motivating visitor interaction. Anytime people comment of your hubs it can actually help to pique the interest of other visitors even more. Thinks about it...how many times have you visited a hub and read some interesting comments about it and it drew you deeper into the hub?

I know I've been drawn to read many hubs not only because of the hub itself - but because of the juicy comment section. Also, another benefit of adding a comment section to your hub, is that it can be a source of regularly updated content to your hubs, similar to the RSS feed concept. Search engine spiders just LOVE regularly updated content; it's their web food!

  • NOTE: Don't be alarmed if you get little to no comments on some hubs. Some of the best hubs don't generate Mega comment at times. It doesn't mean that your content wasn't useful to your visitor. Sometimes they may just be in a rush, may choose to bookmark or email your content, or may choose to click that little Thumbs Up button at the bottom. The important thing is to include a comment section as an Option for your visitors to speak - if they choose to.

8) Become A Fan! Hey if you like what a writer is doing here at HubPages, then show your appreciation by becoming their Fan! Now you'll be informed of regular updates of any new hubs they create via email. Also when you become a fan of others, oftentimes they will reciprocate and become a fan of yours too:) This means they will also be informed of any new hubs that you publish -- and that can be another source of increased web traffic to your hubs.

================================================================

9) Answers: There are a couple of Answer type sites where people post questions and other people answer them; a very simple yet Powerful concept! A few are Yahoo Answers, Answerbag, WikiAnswers, etc. But one particular site that I like the most is MyLot. I have generated a lot of free web traffic to my hubs this way. Another plus about the MyLot community is that You Get Paid for sharing your valuable knowledge - unlike other question & answer communities. Make quality posts and if your hub link fits naturally into a discussion then I have see no problem there with including it.

  • NOTE: Make quality posts, and if your hub link fits naturally into a discussion, then I have see no problem with including it at MyLot. However, MyLot doesn't like affiliate links in discussions, so use your basic hub urls when posting in discussions. You can feel free to put any affiliate/referral links you want to in your personal profile.

10) Forum Activity: Participating in forums is also a great way to boost hub traffic. Yes it does take a little more time and involvement than other traffic generating methods, but I've found that it is well worth it.

Forums have been proven to produce some of the most quality laser-targeted traffic on the Net! Another great thing is that most are "Do Follow Communities" so you can create some quality Backlinks as well.

What you want to do is search for forums relating to your topic. One quick way to find this is by going to your favorite search engine and input -- Your Topic+Forums -- This should return some forums that you can explore, join, and participate in.

Once you've joined a few choice forums, the key is to make helpful informative posts. Don't go there with a hit & run I'M HERE JUST TO ADVERTISE AND SPAM MY HUBS attitude. But rather, your whole approach should be to establish yourself as a knowledgeable expert or authority in your field.

  • NOTE: Many forums won't let you put links in your posts but they all usually let you include a Sig. (short for signature file). This is a tiny piece of marketing real estate at the end of your posts where you can link to your hubs. If you've made good solid posts, you can bet your bottom dollar that forum traffic will soon follow.

11) Article Marketing: Another way to attract increased web traffic to your hubs is by writing articles. You don't have to write long articles, about 250 words min. (which amounts to a few paragraphs) are acceptable for most directories. You can approach this by simply REwriting a shorter version of your HubPage. Or you could write totally different angles relating to your hub topics and link back to your hubs in the ‘About the Author' section.

Articles should be informative, not promotional in nature. The best articles could get picked up by people looking for relevant content to add to their websites or blogs. This could possibly start a viral traffic avalanche to your hubs - because each person who uses your article is required to leave the Author section intact, and that's where you'll have links pointing back to your hubs.

Article Marketing is one of the most effective marketing strategies on the web today. The Gurus use this method faithfully (and some even exclusively) to generate free web traffic to their sites. One very popular article site that search engines just LOVE is EzineArticles.com You can quickly & easily set-up an account and start generating free web traffic to your hubs.

12) Photo Captions: Many people search for images at the search engines too. By including a photo caption on all your images, with at least one relevant keyword about your hub, this could be another way to get more web traffic. Fortunately, HubPages easily enables us to include photo captions. In my traffic stats I've seen where growing amounts of people are finding my hubs as a result of an image search - so I know this simple technique works.

================================================================

13) Hub Linking: An easy way to do this is to create groups for your hubs. You'll do this by clicking on ‘My Account' now look to your right and click on ‘Groups' - Now click on ‘Add Groups' and give it a general category name.

Example: Look at the bottom of this hub and click on the arrow. This hub falls under the general category of Internet marketing so I've grouped it with other hubs about Internet Marketing. Now any hub that you write that fits into the category that you've created, you'll be able to easily drag & drop it there. This linking method will help to increase web traffic to more of your hubs, instead of just one.

...Also another method of linking is to create in-content text links i.e. linking to one of your other hubs through your content. So for example: If I were to say "One of My Favorite Social Networking Websites is Yuwie!" If you click on that link you'll see that it leads to my hub about guess what ~ Yuwie! That's an in-content text link and these are very helpful in generating increased web traffic to more of your hubs.

14) Free Ad Sites: There are tons of free ad sites on the web, but 3 in particular that are worth my time are Linkscout, FreeTrafficBar and AdlandPro.

  • Linkscout - is a web portal that you can use to write mini website summaries about your hubs, websites, blogs, etc. You can link back to your hub and create another good backlink. Also The beauty of Linkscout is that it's viral in nature, meaning that your websites not only appear on your Linkscout $uite, but it also appears in over 40,000 other sites in the network. This is a powerful Viral Marketing Strategy that has generated me more free web traffic than I can shake a stick at!

15) Social Bookmarking: I've found that bookmarking my hubs on various social bookmarking websites like StumbleUpon, Digg & Delicious have proven to be a great move. This method drives increased web traffic to my hubs. If you use Firefox, it has easy plug-ins to various bookmarking sites. I know for sure Stumble upon & Delicious are there.

If you don't have Firefox then you can install Firefox 3 here. It is definitely a more secure and elegant way to browse. If you prefer not to use Firefox then just simply go directly to stumbleupon.com, digg.com, delicious.com or other social bookmarking sites and register.

Also you gotta try OnlyWire where you can submit to over a dozen popular bookmarking sites in Just One Click ~ for Free:) To get this service for free all you have to do is provide just One link back to their website - and you can put that link any site or blog you choose. Not too much to ask at all for a useful service like this.

16) Social Networking: An extention of social bookmarking is Social Networking. This is similar to participating in forums - only Social Networking Websites have more social features. Social networking can be great way to generate free web traffic by connecting with others sharing similar interest. However, since social networking takes a considerable amount of time, I prefer to only involve myself in the Best Social Networking Sites That Pay!...

Thanks for dropping by:) I wish you Increased Web Traffic to your hubs!!!

Great article. One thing I would like to point out that alot of people over look is off-line advertising. That is something I recommend to anyone looking to boost there traffic. And it work wonders also. My favorite way of advertising off-line is with banners sign. Inexpensive and very effective.

Previously, I read some discouraging remarks on posting links to hubs on your own blog. I just rushed through it and did not bookmark that site, so I would'nt know what the writer really meant.

Anyways, thanks for the valuable tips! :)

WOW Multimastery - I feel as though I just struck the Motherload of info! Although I don't recall you saying another way to increase your traffic is to post your relevant link in the forum to answer all the "newbie" questions. That's how I found you and I'll return OFTEN with all this valuable info you share! Thank you!

Could I bother you specifically for an answer? Haven't posted my first Hub although have written plenty in the couple weeks since signing up. Made the mistake of registering with a title, which of course I can't change, so I figured my first had to be relevant to that.

I bought a domain name the same as the Hub article's title - do I have to actually set up a website to use this? Or can I direct the domain url to the Hub? Would GREATLY appreciate your help - if not, I'll simply hope you'll find my newbie question in the forum tomorrow :)

Hey for Thanks for visiting and for your kind words:)

Title: I assume you mean SEM Pro right? If that's what you're referring to I don't think you can change that. Although you can check with HubPages support on that matter.

Domain: You can simple do a redirect for your domain. If you're planning on purchasing a domain for each hub that you write -- that can add up quickly. You might want to check into some free domain tools if you plan on doing that on a regular basis.

Thank you so much for your expert advise Multimastery! Cannot change my name unless I come in as whole new Hubber - realized I'm amongst experts who undoubtedly know a whole lot more than I do on the subject - my forte is sales/service/marketing (now for a team of technical experts). Realized too that I want to write Hubs totally unrelated to that title. I'll live with it and hope true techies don't get offended.

Again - very much appreciate your response - only bought a couple for the ones I want to spread worldwide to hopefully help others and that I could generate a link for to assist folks I talk with daily. Searched high and low for the answer - SO glad I found you! I am indeed a fan and forever grateful!

(and the good thing about HubPages is that you can diversify, learn and specialize in different topics here) That's what's so fun about it! You don't have to just write on one topic -- you can become a Master of Multiple topics Hince: Multima$tery;)

multimastery profile image

multimastery  says:

Yes with myLot you can add links in your profile only, which can still get a lot of visitors. They stopped active links in posts I guess due to spam.

Yahoo has also stopped active links unless they are posted from level 2 or above participants. But yet & still this is a good traffic source as well that you should take advantage of.

In both of these cases the search engines are following the titles of the threads, and by you participating in them your sites will naturally gain exposure from these 2 powerful traffic platforms.

As far as forums to gain some direct backlinks, I'd recommend that you do a Google search for some forums related to your niche(s) and utilize the forum sig.
