While planning a vacation most of us remember to book our rooms, our flights and even plan fun activities at our destination. We rarely ever remember to get some travel insurance. After planning and saving for so long to finally take that vacation the last thing you need is for it to be ruined, which can happen in less than a minute. Having medical and comprehensive travel insurance can protect you from so many unplanned forces so that you may travel without worry. Travel insurance can help you cover trip cancellation and interruption, medical and transportation services, lost or stolen baggage and has 24 hour travel assistance.

Not everyone may need this insurance but if you are able to get it, it may save you from many headaches should the unplanned happen. If your vacation is a short trip and not too far away you may not need travel insurance. Unless you are really stressed and worried it may be wiser to bite the bullet and get some to calm your nerves, especially if you can afford it.

Travel insurance is highly recommended if you are traveling internationally, a cruise ship or if your trip is a very expensive one. If you are planning a trip in advance to save on airfare and hotel fees it’s also good to get insurance. You can save a lot of money by booking trips as early as possible but many unforeseen things can happen during the time in between. Your flight could be canceled; your hotel could be involved in a fire or could get sick and not be able to make the trip anymore. If you are taking a family vacation especially with kids then more reason to trust that whatever can go wrong in the time in between, will go wrong. That will leave you with a array of problems that travel insurance can help you take care of.

Insure and Go!

The Internet allows you to find a cheap and convenient travel policy. Comprehensive travel insurance can help you recover the deposits that you made when you arranged the hotel room and airfare. Most of those deposits are non-refundable and will be a very expensive loss if you can not get them back. With travel insurance coverage, even if you do lose your original flight and or room then you at least will get your money back and can rebook your trip again. You will lose some time but nothing compared to losing all of that money.

Medical insurance is a very important one to have especially if you are traveling abroad. If for any reason you should be in an accident during your trip, medical insurance can help you with those costs. You can even find medical travel insurance that will cover pre-existing medical conditions like diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. This coverage will not pay for you to have a regular checkup while taking your vacation but they will cover you in case your condition where to act up and you have an emergency. Medicare does not cover anything when you are traveling outside of the United States so existing medical condition coverage is very important for senior citizens.

The cost of travel insurance will vary according to your trip. If you are not seeking a plan with existing medical coverage then you might expect to spend anywhere from 6% to 8% of the cost of your entire trip. If you require more extensive coverage or a senior citizen you will be paying more. There are also specialized policies for single parent households, do not pay for a regular family policy that includes two parents. AA Travel Insurance offers these single parent policies which are about 40% less than regular family policies. Save that money to enjoy your vacation.

When shopping for travel insurance you will find that it pays to shop around. Pricing at the will vary quite a bit so give your self plenty of extra time to look for the right coverage and pricing for you. You can have your travel agent give you a recommendation; they might already have a company that they work with and find trustworthy. Just make sure you get a second opinion. If you are an internet user then you have the power to get many different quotes at your fingertips.

Once you have found your insurance then just be sure you read all fine print carefully. If possible take a few days to review the policy in your own time so you don’t miss any loopholes or catches. Choose a well known company that has a proven track record. If worse case happens you will need your travel insurance to do exactly what it is supposed to do, protect and cover you so you may continue to enjoy your long awaited vacation. Most important of all while on your vacation, enjoy yourself and relax.

Have you heard of travel insurance in Europe through the US State Department? Apparently you can register with the State department and get free travel medical insurance (public health plan) for Americans visiting the EU countries. Do you know anything about this? Please help.

Thats a new on me - I would read the fine print very carefully and see what they do and don't cover you for. Do they cover repatriation? Loss of deposits etc if you can't continue or start to travel?
