Web surfing is ever increasing. More and more people all over the world are stamping their presence on the Internet.

However, there have been two simultaneous sides to the booming Internet revolution.

One aspect is the fact that the face of business is changing so tremendously and there’s no geographical boundary, as everyone is connected in real time to the Internet. In other words, this aspect is affecting people’s lives positively. This empowers people and it helps in birthing success, joy and prosperity in the lives of millions of people globally.

The second aspect is the increasing rate of online fraud, cyber crime, hacking and scam activities. This sad development has cost millions of people all over the world loss of their money, child decadence, moral perversion, broken relationship e.t.c.

Lots of painful and highly excruciating experiences linger in the memories of people.

In simple truth, to every good thing, there is always a bad (evil) twin brother of such.

This development has led to so many online security measures aimed at eliminating or reducing this online epidemic of pains and shame. But the more the online security measures put in place, the more a counter approach is being birthed by people that benefits from this treacherous activities. One of their gimmicks and ways include:

1) The use of an intercepting proxy server

2) The use of socks

The use of an intercepting proxy server

An intercepting proxy server works in combination with a gateway or router. Another name for an intercepting proxy server is transparent proxies or forced proxies. Its called forced proxy because the user is forced to use the proxy regardless of local settings.

One of the major uses of intercepting proxy servers is in business. An intercepting proxy server helps to prevent avoidance of acceptable user policy and also to ease administration burden. It also finds vital application by ISPs in some countries in order to save upstream bandwidth and also to improve customer response times by caching.

However, complicated issues arises with the use of an intercepting proxy server

How?

The diversion/interception of a TCP connection can create problems

1) At the initial stage, the original destination IP and port needs be communicated to the proxy, but it is not always possible. Intercepting also create problems for HTTP authentication. In addition, intercepting connections can create problems for HTTP caches.
