Why Are There So Few Big Successes?
Internet marketing success seems to be an elusive commodity. With a troubled economy, and high unemployment, we are seeing an increase in people turning to starting their own businesses, on and off line.
As Kim Klaver asked: "Why Can’t We All Have Frank Kern’s Success"?
Why were the Beatles such a big hit? I am sure they were several groups that had equal, if not greater talent. Why one and not the other?
Many of the successful big names will say that most didn’t make it because they never learned the marketing skills needed, or did not allow enough time to reach the top, or won’t do what it takes. That may be true for some, but not all.
There are many who have put in the time, learned the skills and have had a modest level of success. But not the level of success that people like Frank, or a top network marketer, or huge success like the Beatles.
With so many out there trying, why not more success stories?
In a recent e-mail on this subject Kim Klaver quotes from "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell: "We vastly underestimate the extent to which success happens because of the individual has nothing to do with." Success happens to "people who are talented and work hard but who also benefit from the weird and largely unexamined and peculiar ways in which their world is organized."
I remember my son wanting to become a "rock star". He learned to play the guitar and was actually very good at it. But no dice – no fame and fortune!
I guess you could say the moral of this story is to keep it real.
If you’re looking for Internet marketing success, find a product or niche that you can be passionate about and get very good at it. Keep branding yourself until you are well known in your endeavors. This is the action part that you can do.
If all your experiences just happen to come together at the right place and time you may be the next guru who has a 22 million dollar weekend!
Kim also mentions that some believe that just by following all the steps the profitable person took, that you can attain the same level of prosperity also. Package and sell it as a system and everyone can be successful.
I think that it is quite evident that this is not true. Everyday we are seeing launches of this system or that system, but very few of the buyers realize their dreams.
Now I think a system can be helpful in many ways, but your success does not depend upon any system. Your Internet marketing success comes from many factors that have influenced you along your journey.

Success is very different for different people. Even though people all want the success of the top gurus one needs to really look at how they themselves define success.
Skill sets and mind set will dictate the level one will achieve. If you do not have these you can acquire them through education, but even with that ones level of success will be different. Knowing ones ability helps one progress.
Success is ones ability to commit, be consistent, and put in the action.

Yet another good article with a different slant.
Success means different things to different people but if we are talking financial business success on the Internet or any other business then various things come into play.
Persitence, perseverence,patience and learning the skills set are required.
Branding yourself, as we hear repeatedly is so important.BUT first find that NICHE that is special to you, your desires and your inbuilt goals, dreams and talents. Ask yourself Who are you?
Then add that special, unqiue essence that is you.

One can be hard working and have all the skills needed for success, but as mentioned by David, there could be something else involved here.
Of course keeping yourself real in front of others is a great first beginning. This doesn't put anyone off and gives hope that they too can achieve the same kind of success you are.
But I do think that another aspect enters here. One has to be open to opportunity when it comes knocking. Often we will turn away because we cannot see the whole picture.
What we need is "Belief" that what we want for ourselves will be given if we have asked. There is nothing wrong with asking. The Universe aims to please.
You just have to see the arrow when it's blinking showing you the way.
Internet marketing has the challenge of getting the attention of your niche market. There is a lot of "noise" on the web with lots of vendors vying for the attention of surfers.
It is important to consistently provide value, self branding your business to the place where it becomes common knowledge in your niche, that your website is the place to do business with. Old fashion service and relationship goes a long way in successful Internet marketing.

I really liked your article. You pose a very interesting question. How do we become successful in this business?
I feel that we need to do the things we can control and not worry about the things we cannot control.
Like Judith and others have said so well, we must first study and learn all we can about internet marketing. We must apply what we learn and persevere. We must brand ourselves. We must be who we are and not try to be someone that we are not (does that make sense?)
We must be flexible. When things are not going well for us in our marketing, we must be willing to make appropriate changes. As Marie said, we must be aware and take advantage of opportunity when it arises.

Do one thing and do it well over a consistent period of time and you're almost always guaranteed success as my old Martial Arts Instructor would tell us up and coming black Belts all the time "You've Got To Put Your Time In"

What an interesting concept - being in the right place at the right time will beget success. I know a few people that have been in the right place at the right time - and they could not hang onto the success that was bestowed upon them. Look at most Lottery winners - within a short period of time they are all poor again. Being in the right place at the right time might launch a person towards success but a true winner will possess the knowledge and skill to make that success last forever. Luck will only get you so far in life - then you must get the experience and knowledge to go beyond luck.
