Whether you've got a growing business, or are just trying to sell a product or two, the Internet is fast becoming the best place to advertise your wares. The main problem is finding ways to increase your visibility.
There are hundreds of ways to advertise if you've got unlimited funds, but for those that are strapped for cash, there are a few ways to get the word out about your business or products.
Get yourself a website. If you don't have the money to jump right in and buy a domain name or pay for monthly webhosting, there are several places that offer free websites. Yahoo.com offers sites under the heading Geocities. These are easy to use templates that most anyone can use. This being said, it is a good idea to eventually get a good website. Search engines are more likely to pick up your site and send your business to the masses.
If you've got any kind of following, start a newsletter based around your products. Keep your clients up to date on everything going on with your business, or with any new products you may be offering. If you can keep your current subscriber base happy, word of mouth can be a wonderful thing.
Once you have your website up and running, be sure to add the link to your site to your e-mail signature. If you've gotten yourself a newsletter, add that link as well. As you continue to grow your business, your contacts will more than likely check out your site, and that's what you want to happen. You may not get everyone one of them to sign up or buy your product, but a few of them will.
Start a blog. Blogs are quickly becoming one of the hottest ways to create buzz around the Internet. Most all blogging sites are free to use, and many of them make it easy to earn a few more dollars by placing ads in them.
Visit forums and message boards that are based on your business or product. Be sure to answer any questions that may come up, or ask a few of your own. This is a great way to make new contacts and possibly new clients. As with your e-mails, be sure to add your links to your signature at these venues.
Visit other websites that offer similar products, and offer to do a link exchange with their webmaster. Most webmasters will be more than happy to do this, as it will also help their business as well. If you can get your name onto their websites, you have a shot at creating a larger contact base, and new subscribers.
Finally, make sure you've listed your website address on any business cards you pass out. You never know who might stop by your site, or just how many influential friends they might have.
