Internet Network Marketing and Your Health, Not Your Computer’s Health

What Is More Important, Your Health or Your Work?

If you don't have good health, then as an Internet Network Marketer, how are you going to work? You may manage but probably won't be as productive as you could be if you were energetic and felt your best. A sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet can leave you vulnerable to disease and illness. In Internet Network Marketing, you need to be on top of your game!

Most of us think about our computer's health before we think about our own. We delete temporary Internet files, run Anti-Virus and Spy Ware scans, and defragment on a regular schedule. Then we take the most important step for our computer's health: we "back up" our hard drive. Do you pay that much attention to your health?

How do you maintain good health while sitting in front of your healthy computer all day? It's hard but not impossible. It just requires training yourself with good habits just like you would if you worked in an office and were offered donuts all day long, or birthday cake from all the personnel birthdays. You'd have to make some changes. As a healthy Internet Network Marketer who's also a Wellness coach, I'm here to offer tips for some of those changes.

It all starts with your diet.

What are you eating for breakfast? Are you even eating breakfast? If you're not, you're setting yourself up for low blood sugar and a lowered metabolism over time. As a nutritional coach, I hear "but I'm not really hungry in the morning". You should be. Train yourself to want breakfast by getting your body in high gear to burn those calories early in the day. You can lower your metabolism by skipping meals.

Before you get on the Internet, Network Marketers need to think about health first, and work second. Your body needs nourishment first thing in the morning before you start working, not close to lunch when you're starving and have run out of energy.

The best thing to eat is a little protein, a little healthy fat and some complex carbohydrates. Examples of that would be: organic whole grain cereal with walnuts, eggs with whole grain bread, or a meal replacement shake with whole food ingredients. Whole wheat products are not the same thing as whole grain products. Choose something that will stick with you until it's time for lunch. A bagel will not.

If your breakfast is too skimpy, you'll be hungry before lunch. Some will snack on things they shouldn't, and others will go hungry until lunch. Lots of small healthy meals are better than 3 big meals. The person who waits will overeat, most likely. You know what that does...all that food in your stomach makes you sleepy. And "Sleepy" is not productive.

Maintaining a balanced blood sugar is the secret to maintaining weight and good health, avoiding hunger and food cravings, and keeping a focused mental attitude.

If you can wisely choose foods that don't cause huge swings in your blood sugar then you can have the energy you need to have a productive work day and beyond; until the wee hours. I know how Internet Network Marketers need to be focused late into the night for all those webinars and conference calls....or maybe that's just me; being on the East Coast!

Simple carbohydrates are metabolized quickly and do not maintain a level blood sugar. If you're running a marathon, by all means, go ahead and drink fruit juice and eat bananas. You'll get that quick energy you need on the spot. But if you're working in front of a keyboard on the Internet, Network Marketers need a steady supply of slow-burning carbohydrates, quality protein to maintain good muscle tone, and healthy fats to feed the brain. At your computer, you're mostly working your brain anyway, right? What are you feeding it?

How can you tell if you're eating the right foods? You'll have steady energy all day, a clear mind and you won't get sleepy or fatigued in the middle of the afternoon. If your energy drops later in the day or you feel sleepy, think about what you ate, or didn't eat. In Internet Network Marketing, I get most of my business done in the afternoon after reading all those emails. That wouldn't happen if I was napping.

A bit about food cravings: if you are completely nutritionally balanced, food cravings will be minimal. I've proven it over and over. It doesn't mean you won't want foods that are bad for you anymore; it just means they won't be calling your name. You can walk by them if you're put to the test.

Having a balanced blood sugar will also support your healthy weight by reducing hunger and food cravings. A drop in blood sugar can bring on hunger, snack attacks, and foggy thinking. You know who you are! In order to avoid snacking on the wrong foods and craving foods with empty calories, choose foods that feed your body and mind.

You'll also notice the person with unbalanced blood sugar. They're the cranky people who are easily irritated and snappy. I'd hate to see what they are doing on the Internet during this time. This happens a lot to the person who gets busy and forgets to eat. That's not productive either.

If you choose snacks and meals that raise your blood sugar, you've started on the "blood sugar roller coaster". Maintaining a consistently high blood sugar has serious health consequences, like diabetes and insulin resistance that can undermine your health. Snack on foods that provide your body with nutrients that you are aware of, instead of ingredients you can't read. . Choose snacks in the afternoon like nuts, fruit, and healthy, low sugar yogurt without artificial sweeteners.

Proper Exercise is the Other Half of Good Health

Some people think that diet is ok without exercise, or exercise is ok without diet. You may know the person who diets but never gets any exercise, or the exerciser that never eats the right foods. The truth is that one is just as important as the other. They are two halves of a whole. Sitting at a computer all day can make you stiff and uncomfortable. Turtle neck, carpal tunnel, and fluid retention are avoidable.

Just keep moving to get your metabolism going and keep energy levels high. Get up and jump around...it's good for your lymphatic system and can prevent bloating and swelling. Do a few yoga moves to stretch your upper body, back, legs and protect your wrists. Push-ups will rejuvenate the entire upper body. Squats will get the blood moving in those large muscles in the lower body.

Most of us understand that we need to drink a lot of water in order to stay well hydrated and flush our system of impurities. As a rule, you should be drinking about half of your body weight in ounces, daily. A dehydrated body cannot metabolize fat. And, if you drink a lot of fluids like you should, you'll get the exercise benefit of those trips down the hall, as well!

Whether it's at the beginning of the day or the end, try to get out and walk for about 45 minutes. It's something almost everyone can do for their health. Don't forget to exercise your heart, lungs and muscles for a healthy body and mind. Getting oxygen to the brain is one of the most important things you can do for yourself as you age. Doctors are stating that it is one of the factors that help prevent degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and others that affect the brain.

As an Internet Network Marketer, Each Day Remember this....

I know why you're working at home...you're working at home for the same reason I'm working at home; to provide for myself and my family and have a secure financial future. Just don't forget that none of this will matter if your health is not good enough for you to enjoy what you're building for your future. Get out there and exercise your body, and feed your brain. Your health is just as important as what you do.

I love the analogy to how we take care of our computers, but may not be taking care of our bodies.

I get my day started with a protein shake and it helps prevent those blood sugar drops that come from eating high carb breakfasts.

WAZOO Becky!

You are soooooo talking to me here. Sitting in front of the computer I don't realize I'm hungry till it's a crisis. I've started getting up earlier so I can wake up, eat and maybe work out before I start "work" for the day. I find I feel better and get more done when I do this.

Thanks for calling attention to this much needed topic.

Becky, Great article on how to stay healthy. Many of us don’t understand the importance of fueling our bodies and mind properly and exercise until we have a serious health challenge. It’s a good idea to be well informed and learn how to maintain our bodies on a daily basis, so if and when the health challenge comes, we already know how we are going to handle it. Thanks. Barbie

Hi Becky,

Being a health nut, I love being healthy. Sometimes though I have to force myself to get out and exercise. It's always a challenge, but the benefits are so worth it.

Hi Becky,

Thanks for all the great information. I'm an exercise nut and my biggest challenge is not pigging out after my workout. You're so right that we need both exercise and a healthy diet to be at our best.

Thanks and warm wishes,

Cindy

Hi Becky,

Excellent hub and I can't agree with you more. Being older keeping the weight off has become a real challenge and can definitely take over. But I have found if I have a protein shake in the morning, a snack of no more than 160 cal. around 10:00, lunch, another snack at around 3:00 and then a sensible dinner works for me. Everything is portion size.... Also, I have been in training for a 5K that is this weekend in Seattle. Should be fun. I can't tell you how much this has all improved my lifestyle and my work.

Becky,

I couldn't agree more about keeping good health. I like the comparison you made about keeping your computer's operating system healthy to one's own body.

Regards to sugars - I enjoy cut up apples with gobs of peanut butter and raw organic honey, followed by a thick protein smoothy. Definitely high in surgar, but light and clean burning.

And then when this just won't take me any further, a plate of scrambled eggs and small portion of steak finishes my "in-front-of-the-computer sessions.

I often find myself crunched for time, so I think it's a good habit to make household chores exercise. Nothing like lunges up the stairs as I vacuum.

Great subject. Hope to see you write more about this.

Becky,

Excellent Hub! I have a tendency toward low blood sugar so your advice really hit home. Even though I already know this stuff it is good to have a reminder every now and then. I don't always do what I should. Love the veggie head image!

Hi Becky

Your Hub has brought together two of my loves--Healthy Living and Internet Marketing. I have for a long time realized the importance of balancing protein and carbs by having three healthy meals or protein shakes and three balanced snacks each day. That has become a way of life for me.

Since spending more time at the computer, my exercise time has suffered. Your Hub has encouraged me to make some improvements in that department.

Great Hub, Becky. Very timely with the "fattening holidays" ahead of us.

Thanks Bechy.

It is so important for people to realize that if they neglect their health nothing else really matters. bringing attention to the need to keep your blood sugar level is huge. Most of us don't realize that the excess blood sugar is the greatest indicator of heart disease.

Becky,

As I sit in front of my computer this morning crashing I realized I hadn't had a thing to eat yet as I read through your article. Too much turkey, stuffing and pies and not enough nutrition. Think I'll head to kitchen now and give my body some good food for a change. Great article. Thanks.

Nice article. Regarding eggs for breakfast, we recommend probably one to three, without the yolk, because of the protein content [albumin] --One whole egg twice a week is fine; we have to remember that the egg yolk is almost pure cholesterol [checl one of our articles] which is not too good in the long run.

We hear many voices regarding eggs: "they are good for you" etc. but they should be eaten in moderation.

For more health and medical information, check our articles and also our site at Hlife.info, including talking to doctors online...

Thanks!

Thanks Dr. Steve.

From what I have learned, the jury is still out on whether cholesterol in food affects blood cholesterol. For those who have high cholesterol, it would be smart to not over do it as you mentioned, until everyone agrees.

Because God made them, I tend to recommend them to my customers, especially the organic variety, for a great protein source, vitamin B-12, etc.
