Abnormalities in Sex
79Intersex states:The differences
Intersex states are variations from normal sex.Variations from normal sex are due to defective development of the single mass of cells fom which the sex organs of both sexes are derived.
This may result in:
(1)the presence of certain male and female structures in the same individual(intersex state),OR
(2)imperfect identification of external genitalia,viz
Small penis resembling a clitoris, enlarged clitoris resembling a penis, bifid scrotum resembling labia majora,or fused labia majora resembling a scrotum.
Intersex states are conditions in which male and female characters,e.g gonads, physical form and sexual behavior co-exist in varying proportions in the same individual affecting one in every 2,000 births. They are classified into four groups, viz.,
- Gonadal agenesis,
- Gonadal dysgenesis,
- True hermaophroditism,and
- pseudohermaphroditism.
There are male pseudohermaphrodites(genetically male but abnormal external sex organs)and female pseudohermaphrodites(genetically female but abnormal external sex organs that look like a penis).
Gonadal agenesis is the condition in which the sexual organs (testes or ovaries)of an individual have never developed. This abnormality is determined very early in fetal life. These cases are chromatin negative.
Gonadal dysgensis is the condition in which the external structures are present but the testes or ovaries fail to develop at puberty.
The most important examples of such condition are:(1)Klinefelter syndrome in the male & (2)Turner syndrome in the female.
Boy or girl at birth
Down syndrome
In the Klinefelter syndrome, the boy grows and develops normally initially but puberty is delayed. On examination, one or more of the three classical features become apparent which include the testicles are small and firm in cosistency, gynaecomastia may develop, and there maybe signs of eunuchoidism such as long arms and legs, scanty pubic and axillary hair, and poor or no bread growth.Nuclear sexing indicates that he is chromatin positive like a female and his sex chromosome pattern is XXY(47 chromosomes). This individual is naturally sterile and cann't procreate.
The Turner syndrome is characterized by three principle features that are:sexual infantalism, short stature and congenitla anomalies,e,g webbing of neck, cubitus valgus, coarctation of aorta, color blindness, renal abnormalities and osteoporosis.Sexual infantilism is manifested by primay amenorrhoea, and consequent sterility;lack of breast development with widely spaced nipples and hypoplastic areola;scanty pubic hair;infantile external genitalia, uterus and fallopian tubes.Nuclear sexing indicates that she is chromatin negative like a male and hers sex chromosome pattern is XO(45 chromosomes). She is naturally sterile and cann't bear a child.
True hermaphroditism is a rare condition also called double sex.Individuals with this condition may have external genitalia of both sexes and the internal genitals may consist of both ovaries and testes or ovotestes. The nuclear sex is usually female but maybe male.Hypospadias, cryptorchidism, and inguinal hernia are frequent findings in such cases.
Pseudohermaphroditism is when there is lack of clear-cut differentiation of the external genitalia while the internal genitalia are of only one sex. They are classified as male or female according to the presence of testes(nuclear sex XY) or ovaries (nuclear sex (XX),independant of anomalies of external genitalia that maybe reverse of nommal.Criminals sometimes attempt to conceal their sex by a change of dress or other methods to avoid detection, this is known as concealed sex and canbe detected by phsical examination.Sexual reassignment surgery,SRS(Sex change video mayn't be suitable for minors)

These are just medical facts - a substantial part of our life. Read carefully or skip, if you don't like it. We were taught about this at school.
Trsmd,i think Solarshingles has answered your question. Thanks for your care.No single picture i have added that put the hub in the list of mature content.
Maybe, I was a bit 'rude' to Trsmd, but it is just my official professional opinion. I've simply spent too many years in school and in hospitals and other institutions dealing with people from all walks of life and all ages.
These are serious (medical physical) conditions and people simply don't know enough about them. I still vividly remember my theoretical study about these genetic conditions, which were so very hard to comprehend and also latter, when I was working with these cases in real.
I agree its often less known about what these abnomalities are like and just simply known by the name.
very interesting!
Good hub, Well written! Thanks
I consider very Important to inform ! I also like to writte about sexuality and safe practice....
Great hub!
Topstuff, I see this Hub as both outstandingly presented and important; thank you very much. I'm mildly surprised that the incidence of sexual anomaly is not even higher than one in 2,000 but have no doubt whatsoever that your research is solid.
A dozen years ago, a close family friend referred me to a "man" who was born a true hermaphrodite. The doctors made the decision, giving the family no say in the matter--in fact not even infoming them at the time--and sewed the vagina shut. To say that the infant developed into a rather mentally messed up adult would be understatement, but of course sexual anomaly is not a requirement for that.
By the time he went to prison--on what specific charge I was not informed, but at least a 20 year sentence--he was a bald headed, flaming transvestite who would have gone the transgender SRS route if he'd had the coin. Inside the joint, he was left alone by even the most aggressive sexual predators due to his well developed "crazy act". He was not nearly as "nuts" (pun not really intended) as he acted; the mental imbalance was 90% social camouflage.
We were pen pals for several months, but in the end he broke it off in a fit of jealous rage because I would not sever ties with other prison pen pals.
One thing I hesitate to add but will say because I see your writing as SO important: You might want to consider proofreading the Hub one more time simply to correct a few typos, such as "beard" having hit the page as "bread" and "congenital" doing likewise as "congenitla". Despite reading my Hubs aloud to Pam before publication to TRY to avoid this sort of thing, I STILL spot "dyslexic finger typos" in my own material a year after publication.
On the other hand, your material is so valuable that you may not have the time for such piddly details. If so, please forget I ever said a word!
This hub is rather well explained, I agree. Am 47XXY and when I see people who dont just run away in fear when they see someone or something that is different, brings back up my hope that one day society will accept that diversity is the Key to life on Earth.
We are all different, in sex terms too. Not all men have the same exact sizes, nor women, so what's the big deal if some people have it different than the "normal" (I call it common) sex forms?
Most of us are hapy the way we are; we are just not allowed to be the way we are and have to follow the "supposed to be" way that the world around us has. Why? Whn you see a dog do you force it to become a cat? noooo..., then why intersex people are in most cases forced to become someone else? Be it by education, religion, tradition, or whatever, there are always external forces that push very hard thgeir own way.
Not all think my way, I agree, and my way ain't in any case the absolute truth, but it is my opinion.
Have a great day!
Takinoxy
I concur with all said here--humans don't often venture outside the norms of binary gender terms. It's a fascinating world out there, and you've captured it.
But Ghost32 does make some excellent points--when ya get a chance, a lil touch-up will help!
Thank you for the well thought out and informative hub. My youngest daughter was born with Turner Syndrome. She was listed genetically as x iso Yp. She has all the classic attributes of a child with Turner Syndrome: deformed genitalia (fixed in surgery shortly after birth due to cancer risks), short, and learning issues. The webbing of the hands and feet in minor and most people don't notice.
One thing I must mention. My daughter will turn 10 this March and she is as precious as any child I know. She is a gift from God.
My life changed when my daughter was born. My perceptions of male and female underwent a radical reevaluation. It really makes a person think.
Again, thank you for the thoughtful hub on a touchy subject.
