How to Watch ipod Video On Your tv

If you own an ipod video player you can watch your movies or videos on your tv. Here is an easy cheap way to send ipod video to TV.

Apple wants you to buy there expensive "special" ipod video cable. There is a way around that. You can use a standard digital camcorder cable or go to your local Radio Shack or Walmart and pick up a camcorder av cable like in the picture.

You want a three-plug yellow/red/white RCA connection at one end and a three-banded eighth-inch (3.5mm) A/V plug at the other.

Plug the 1/8 in. plug into your ipod. Next turn on your ipod and go to videos... video settings. Go to your TV out setting and you will have 3 choices. Yes, No and Ask.

Yes is for always playing on your TV only. No will only play on your ipod screen and ask will prompt you for your choice. Probably the best to use is ask.

If you have a widescreen tv set this to on. NTSC is what you want for U.S. Pal is a different type of signal and mainly used in Europe.

Select an input you are going to use on your television. If you have a set of front AV jacks they are the easiest to get to.

This is where apple switched there cable around so you think you have to buy there cable to make it work. Connect your cable the following way -

* Plug the red RCA plug into your TV's yellow RCA jack.

* Plug the yellow RCA plug into your TV's white RCA jack.

* Plug the white RCA plug into your TV's red RCA jack.

Select your TV input and start your ipod playback and you should see your movie playing on your TV. I found the quality is equal to watching a DVD!

If you have humming or poor audio you have either the tv volume too loud and the ipod too low or the other way around. Your TV volume should be where you normally have it. Use the ipod to adjust the volume.

I think this is great. I joined an unlimited ipod download site and have been downloading tons of movies!!

I'm not getting it to work for me...what color cable goes with the video/audio slots? My TV isn't colored, it just has the text.

After that, should it be on the channel that shows DVD's normally? Or what? And will it show up on the iPod screen when it is working, or will it always say "attach iPod accessory"?

Just an FYI. I have been dealing with this the past two days. The 80GB IPOD Classic does NOT work this way. You have no choice but to buy there cable (Approx $40). It prompts you to plug in the Video Component to the bottom. I know this because my roommate has a 5th generation and it worked fine with the above method. Anything to get a buck out of you!
