Just Got A New iPod Speaker

I just bought the iPod touch for myself for Christmas. It is AWESOME. My family and I have always supported Apple and their products. This iPod, by far, is my favorite product. The voice-activation makes it easy to find songs. There are also really great games that you can download through your iPod that are also voice-activated. If you are a busy person, or just an impatient person who can't stand scrolling through hundreds of titles to find the song they want, then the iPod speak is for you. I love to use my iPod touch while I am in the car, it is so much easier to just say a few words to find a song, than to take my eyes off of the road to navigate to a song. If you are a multitasker then you will also like this iPod. I never have to use my hands while I am listening to music anymore. I am not intereupted from my studying I can just speak the name of the song I want to listen to and then say "play", it is that easy. The iPod speak also works great with iTunes. I can download songs straight from my iPod. I would recommend this iPod for anyone who loves Apple products and for anyone who wants a fast and easy way to listen to their music.

Bicycle iPod Speaker

Above the speaker rocks! This is a cool indeed iPod speaker system. I’ve look forwarding to geting something like this for a while for listening to the iPod without headphones. I have currently have the JBL On Stage speaker for my desk but not something that is portable and runs on batteries.

My first impression about it was that it was made very well and shouldn’t have a problem withstanding a MTB bike ride. It’s a single speaker, but it still sounds great. The speaker system itself is pretty simple, a speaker, some batteries to power the speaker, and the iPod link. The remote is like a small hockey puck and has some great range, I was able to control the speaker from about 50 feet away in my house.

I wish the speaker housing had some controls on it so I don’t have to have the remote puck to control to volume and song selection but I can live with that. I just don’t feel like having another device on my handlebars, so on the first ride it ended up in my pocket. The only issue I had with it is with my bike’s frame size, I ride a 16″ frame so the speaker can barely fit inside the main triangle. As you can see from the picture it has adapters to fit my 30Gb iPod Video and my 1st Gen iPod Nano, it has another adapter for an iPod mini, I think. (I don’t own one of those.) Not shown, it also comes with a cage to mount on your bike, but any water bottle cage should also work. It also has an AC adapter that when plugged in will also charge the iPod. It’s called the Cycler but I think I will get some great use out of it as a great portable iPod speaker. I used it this weekend outside while I was washing my car.

iPod speaker system for bikers

If you thought music-on-the-move is confined only to the luxurious interiors of a car, then its high time you shake the cobwebs off your mind and experience the iHome2GO iH85B revolution. The iH85B, or ‘Cycler’ as the manufacturers affectionately call it, is a novel iPod speaker system that allows you to enjoy your iPod music, while riding a bicycle. The iH85B features a water-resistant speaker case that protects your iPod and nourishes you with stereo-quality music output. Just place your iPod inside the case and attach it to your bike frame, and you are ready to experience the magic of the iH85B. It comes equipped with a wireless RF remote control that mounts to the handlebars of your cycle and gives you full access to your iPod controls. Designed to work with docking iPod models, the iH85B is ideal for beach parties and picnics too. The iH85B is priced at $79.99.

Mini Pouch Boombox iPod Speaker

FredFlare seems to have stumbled upon a winner with the Mini Boombox iPod Speaker Pouch that is not only capable of holding a bunch of loose change inside for you to make emergency telephone calls, it also comes with a 1,400 milliwatt stereo amplifier that can be hooked up to a compatible MP3 player or iPod. The Mini Boombox is tiny enough to be clipped to your belt loop, and fret not when it rains since both speakers are water-resistant (although you can't bring them with you while diving...). If you're cracking your head over a Christmas gift for the other half, you can't really go wrong with the $24 Mini Boombox iPod Speaker Pouch. Of course, it helps if that was given with a shiny new 2G iPod touch in tow ;)

Make your iPod speak menu items

If you have a current generation iPod nano or classic, then you have the ability to access spoken menu items throughout the iPod. This is an accessibility feature that Apple built into the current iPod line, but I found that feature is handy while walking around, or driving, if you don't want to look at the iPod's screen. To enable this feature, dock your iPod with your computer and open iTunes. Click your iPod under the Devices list, and select the General tab. If your iPod supports this feature, you should see an "Enable spoken menus for accessibility" checkbox under the "Options" section. Click this checkbox and sync your iPod. Depending on how much music you're syncing, generating the spoken menus could take a few minutes. Once your iPod is finished syncing, you need to turn on spoken menus on the iPod. From the iPod menu, select Settings > General > Spoken Menus On/Off. When you roll over a song, menu item, or go into cover flow mode, the iPod will alert you with a spoken voice. Additional Notes:

  • You can change the voice that is used for the spoken menus by going into System Preferences > Speech > Text to Speech > and selecting a new system voice on your Mac. You will need to resync your iPod after you change the voice.
  • You should note that not all menu items will be spoken, and some titles of songs won't be spoken properly. This is inherit of the Mac OS X Text to Speech engine.
  • This feature is not currently available on iPod touch or iPhone.
