When it comes to air traveling and clothing, everyone’s is different.

Some travelers dress in business suits, others in jeans, pajamas or sweat pants. With the recent changes and increases in airport security and traveling rules, many people are starting to wonder in head aching curiosity if the clothing they plan to wear is important.

Before September 11, 2001, and a few years after its terror, traveling by airplane has become the popular way for many travelers. Along with that is the desire to be comfort in one’s attire. Regardless of the length of your flight, you will want to be comfortable. There is nothing worst than wearing a tight jean or short dress while enduring a long flight high up in the air. In my opinion, it is important to think of what you will be wearing before you even head to the airport.

Many air travelers make the decision to wear casual comfortable tops and bottoms. By far, these clothing are the best for airport security, especially when entering airport screening checkpoints. You’ll be able to enter and leave the security checkpoint faster and not have to worry about other measurable search.

Of course, do avoid having on tiny immeasurable things on you such as coins and bobbin pins. One of my mistakes back when I first traveled by air was wearing too much bobbin pins in my hair. After a few walk through the metal detector and searching frantically through all of my pocket if I had anything in them, the lady security took a look at my hair and noticed I had on some bobbin pins. She scanned them and sure enough they were responsible for setting off the metal detector. With the little amount of metal in them, these items can trigger the metal detector and potentially hold you back. That is why most airport security officers request that you remove all accessories from pockets, shirts, wrist, hair etc and place them in a plastic tray along side your carry-on luggage or bag. Some security check points will allow earrings to be worn, but if your earring sets off the metal detectors, prepare to step back or step aside for further screening. For the sake of faster checkpoint, it’s best to take off all accessories and place them in the tray for the x-ray scanner.

Let’s not forget about belts. Most if not, all belts will set off an airport’s metal detector. For faster security checkpoint it is highly requested that you remove your belts before entering the metal detectors. This will definitely help speed up the checking process.

After September 11, 2001, numerous security rules have been implemented. One rule that is required of passengers is the removal of their shoes while passing through the security checkpoint. Depending on what kind of shoes you where, some can set off the metal detector alarm. With some of the latest trend in fashion, I myself had noticed that some shoes have metal or copper lace holes. These can definitely set off the metal detector. Just like your accessories and carry-on luggage, your shoes will be scanned right along side with them. As a suggestion, travel wearing simple shoes that can be easily remove and put back on.

Another air travel rule, recently implemented is the ban of liquids. What this means is that liquids of any kind is no longer allowed onboard planes. This includes bottled water. Of course through time some exceptions had been made and some security checkpoints had allowed some liquids to be carry one board so as long as it is not more than 3ml. As with my last traveling in the summer of 2009, 3ml bottle were the limited size bottle for carrying on certain kind of allowed liquid.

Now back to our earlier issue: Is the Clothing you wear important while traveling? As far as I know I have not heard of rules or restrictions on the clothing that you can wear. But as I mentioned above in the opening, “everyone is different” – this includes the differences in how some terminal employees determines how appropriate your attires are for traveling. A recent news that made some headline was a business traveler who was rejected his seating in the business section of the plane due to his outfit which was considered not appropriate enough. So, in my opinion, whether you want to be fashionable or comfortable, it is all up to you.
