67The value of Rosemary and Coffee
When I decided to answer this question I had to do some research on the topic. Admittedly, I really didn't know a whole lot about Rosemary or Coffee for that matter because I've never had cause to acquaint myself with Rosemary and I hated the smell and taste of Coffee. But I thought it would be fun to explore the value of the question as it stood toward memory, the sole sub-topic of which I have some knowledge.
Rosemary
I found my investigation on Rosemary to be very, very educational. The plant contains some important nutrients that we humans require in our lives: Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin B6. It is used most readily in culinary practices and provides a variety of flavors dependent on the way in which it is cooked.
First it is very important to know that Rosemary has it's benefits but is also an extremely toxic plant that should not be consumed in large amounts.
Rosemary contains carmosic acid which tends to shield the brain from free radicals which help lower the risk of strokes and neurodegenerates liks Alzheimer's and Lou Gehrig's disease. It is believed these factors help in the matters improved memory, but has the effect of slow recall as well.
Concentrations of Rosemary have been known to cause autoimmune diseases, allergic reactions or epileptic seizures. As well Rosemary Essence Oil is a powerful convulsant. If rubbed into the skin it can cause seizures and is extremely toxic if swallowed.
On the plus side, it has been known to help treat and prevent headaches as well as being a herbal sleepaide if used in a tea.
COFFEE
The coffee bean had been utilized as a beverage source since at least the 9th Century. It is well known to be a stimulant and its consumption is has influence on an array of medical conditions with conflicting results in benefits and detractors.
Foremost, coffee appears to have positive affects on a myrid of diseases such as: Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver and gout. It does also has its negative side such as Acid Reflux and related diseases. It has been shown that the caffeine in the coffee contributes to the medical affects. But those who drink decaffeinated coffee do not appear to reap the benefits from the beverage.
The information related to the medical aspects of coffee seemingly goes on and on with many aspects related to the amount of coffee consumed. But for the purpose of this discussion, I believe the above information is sufficent to provide an idea of how coffee affects the human condition.
In regards to memoy increases, coffee has been shown to increase short term memory at it relates to the consumer's "train of thought" but makes unrelated material more difficult to recall.
Summation
It appears that Rosemary and coffee have a relationship with short term memory increases but in turn affects the ability to recall at least some type of information more difficult. At best, this writer might suggest a cup of coffee and a sniff of rosemary while doing that final cram session prior to a test or engagement where specific information is required to be remembered is the best use for this combination.
