The Legacy of Jerry Rice

Jerry Rice was born in Crawford, Mississippi on October 13th, 1962. He is a former professional NFL wide receiver. Jerry is widely known for consistency in his performance and a good work ethic as a professional. He has also lead in every stat for his position. Rice has gone to the Pro Bowl thirteen time and was an All-Pro ten times. His professional career with the NFL spans over 20 years. He has played for a winning superbowl team three times and has the rings to prove it.

 

Rice retired on a high with, 1,549 receptions, 22,895 receiving yards, 197 touchdown receptions, and 208 total touchdowns. Jerry has 22,895 receiving yards which ranks him second in NFL history.

Aside from his stellar record, Jerry's legacy is his strong work ethic and professionalism. Throughout his career with the NFL Jerry only missed 17 games, which were caused by a torn knee ligament in 1997, and a strike shortage during 1987. He is report to have played 303 games putting him as the only wide receiver to have played that many games.

 

Jerry has been ranked by "The Sporting News" list of 100 greatest football players as number 2. The only person who comes close to Jerry's records is Deion Sanders who played 5 additional seasons.

 

Since the NFL, Jerry has appeared in Visa, All Sport and Gatorade commercials. He has been a dancer on the hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars" were he came in at second place. He has also appeared on Spike TV's Pros versus Joes, and Fox's Don't Forget the Lyrics. He is still close to the game co-hosting a talk radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio's NFL channel and co-hosing with Raj Mathai on NBC 11 "Sports Sunday".

 

Rice has also co-authored "Rice" a book about his life and "Go Long - My Journey Beyond the Game and the Fame".

 

Rice is married to Jackie, and they have three children Jaqui, Jerry, Jr, and Jada.
