how I found her

I found this woman's poetry accidently making research rounds on some other (political) subject and just fell in love with her work. I wanted to make a hub for her to direct others to her work so that they could enjoy her as well.

an excerpt from the piece I fell in love with... "the sweetest revolution"

"...and I want to be sweet for you, baby
but your spit no longer drips liquid sugar
teeth are rotting and falling as I speak
to my spirit alone with my things-to-do list
standing on my spine before realizing your feet are too heavy
for my back so I simply erase your name
from the paper
wet the dead tree with my tears in hopes to grow a dozen
more
of you so afraid
to let me show you how a real woman could
help you find the man in you
my wholeness will guide you to the
half of you
you thought you didn't have
so you only offered the little that your
body allowed
and in the end it's never enough
'cause
I wanna smell like it
taste like it feel like it walk barefoot inside it
wrap it around my waist wear it in the shower take it
home with me
share it with my girls play an Aretha CD to it eat it sweat it
believe it African-dance to it wash my face with it hold it
love it
grow it out my stomach rock my Adidas with it let it run
down my
back lick it live it shake a tambourine and say amen
because of it
steal it if I have to
melt chocolate on top of it
just want it to be sweet, baby
sweet like you like we can be
like revolution'"

a poetic gamble

"Jessica Care moore first got exposure in 1994 for her original poetry at the downtown Pourme Cafe in her native Detroit, where she found responsive small audiences and made contact with such legendary veterans as The Last Poets. The cafe proprietors, who also owned a hair salon, invited Care moore to perform at Detroit's popular hair shows. Enthusiastic feedback from these broader audiences inspired Care moore to load up her pickup in May 1995 and, with $700 and a dream, head for New York City to make her mark. Few poets earn $50,000 a year by their own efforts, but Care moore, 28, pulls down even more than that these days..."

"Moore Black Press was created by founder and C.E.O. jessica Care moore in 1997. MBP is a company dedicated to preserving the new generation of writers and poets. Poetry has not only been a passion for jessica, and quickly became an avenue of success and international exposure. The young poet made history on New York City's Apollo's stage in 1995. Her infamous 5-weeks of poetry beat out all the competition on the nationally televised, It's Showtime at the Apollo, and crowned her an Apollo Legend. Care-moore didn't settle for a signing a mainstream publishing deal. She decided to to invest in herself. Using her celebrity and her work ethic she inherited from her parents, moore's energy went into the creation of her own thriving publishing company."

your work reminds me a lot of her work. I suppose that's why I adore both of you. :)
