Boston: Three Championships this year?

Forget the so-called Evil Empire. Say hello to sports' new enemy...Boston. Why? This could be the year that Boston will have three championships. And because of last night's dismantling of the hapless Colorado Rockies, that's one championship...two more to go. For years, Boston sports fans have complained about their Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. But, these same fans now have a chance to talk about a championship with all of these teams in the same sports year.

The Boston Red Sox just completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies in a series that had as much intrigue as the next court decision in the Britney Spears/K-Fed custody battle. The Rockies reverted back to their old self and ended their Oscar-award winning performance of a team who deserved to be in the World Series. We knew this was going to happen. Just compare the pitching staff:

Boston

Josh Beckett

Curt Shilling

Daisuke Matsuzaka

Jon Lester

Colorado

Jeff Francis

Ubaldo Jimenez

Josh Fogg

Aaron Cook

Enough Said.

On the next leg of our journey through Bean-town dominance...the New England Patriots. They have not won the Super Bowl yet...but no team stands a chance against Tom Brady and his minions. Every week, another team on their schedule sets up across the line from the powerful Patriots and gets to see perfection up, close and TOO personal. That team is sent packing with their necks aching from watching Mr. Brady throw touchdown after touchdown. Don't expect the Colts to be able to defeat New England this week, either. Peyton will be asking Tom for his autograph by the end of the game. The playoffs are inevitable..the Super Bowl is a given. So, starting today we will rename the NFL playoffs the NFL Pat-offs...it will be a display of the Patriots offing each team in their way on to the championship.

Finally, Boston's own Celtics. This team has a history of winning championship after championship. Unfortunately, that history has been marred by each losing season that flies by. This will change this season due to the blockbuster deal that sent Kevin Garnett to his new and shiny green colored locker. This trade did not come without losses. Take a look at what was given to attain number 21:

Kevin Garnett

for

Al Jefferson

Ryan Gomes

Gerald Green

Sebastian Telfair

Theo Ratliff

Two first round draft picks

One and a half pints of Samuel Adams beer

And a cheerleader to be named later

The result leaves Boston with three all stars...Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and the newly acquired Kevin Garnett. All they have to do now is follow the yellow brick road to a championship.

That's three championships friends..with one already deposited in the bank...two more potential championships to be added by next summer. So, Boston stop crying...just pop the champagne bottles and celebrate...
