56The Job Coach Says, Search for a Job A Better Way
The Job Coach asks who is reading your resume’? Does monster have thousands of workers reading and putting them in the correct categories? I know from personal experience that is not true. Side bar – A lot of people think that when they buy a house the nice real estate person is working for them. Not true, the real estate person is working for the seller of the house not the buyer.

It is the same with the internet job boards. These companies work for the buyer of ads not the hunter of jobs. Speaking as a buyer the service they all need improvement. We defined the job with care; we wanted a local person with cashier and customer service experience. What we got were 300 people that really wanted any job they could get. We even got an application from a felon that lived in Maine. So trust me even the people that do look at a resume’ don’t spend all that much time looking at the resume’. So who gets a job on Monster? Lucky people get jobs on Monster hence the name Job Lotto.

I said I was going into a sale position for about 3 times what I was making at the company. He said how ever you got a job here. I said it was simple when I came to the interview and gave the engineers what they were looking for. What do you mean, he asked? I said all the questions were designed to find people that fit certain characteristics and since I was a trained and experience sales person it was not hard for me to figure out what those were by the questions and answer correctly. Then a test was administered that had no answer. That meant that the correct answer to the test was to ask for help. So I waited a moment so as not to look like I knew this and asked for help. So I got hired

I had no business doing this job. I had none of the natural skills necessary. I got the job over more skilled people because I was good at passing interviews not doing the job.
