A not so famous day's events!

 We all know what's happened in the U.S. on July 4th, but what happened on July 5th, besides the founding fathers taking the day to sleep in?

Here's a few of the things that happened throughout the years:

1812 - American forces defeat British forces in the Battle of Chippewa.

1865- William and Catherine Booth establish the Christian Mission in London, which later becomes the Salvation Army.

1865 - First speed limit for autos is set in Britain - you can drive 2 mph in town, and 4 mph out in the country.

1914 - Kaiser Willhelm he Second pledges Germany's unconditiona support to Austria and Hungary in their battle against Serbia.

1921 - Some of the Chicago White Sox baseball palyers are accused of throwing the World Series.

1934- San Fransisco dock workers, strike, riot and fight with police on the docks - at the end of the fighting, two were killed and hundreds were injured.

1935- The National Labor Relations Act signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

1937 - SPAM intorduced to the world!

1943 - the Battle of Kursk in Russia - the largest full scale battle in all of history, includes the largest tank battle in history.

1946 - the bikini is introduced in Paris by designer Louis Beard, who took inspriation from news reports about nuclear tests off of Bikini Atoll and name this new garment after it. For a while, Italy and Spain made it illegal to wear these on the beach.

1947 - Larry Doby signs with the Cleavland Indians Baseball team, becoming the first black player in the American League.

1948 - Ntional Health Sevices Act provides public health care for England.

1950 - The Israeli Parmilment passes the "Law of Return" allowing any Jew who wishes to settle in Isreal.

1954- The BBc broadcasts it's first TV news program.

1971 - Age to vote is dropped from 21 to 18 in the U.S.

1989 - Olvier North is found guilty of being involved in the Iran-Contra Affair, is fined and gets a suspended jail sentence.

1996 - the first cloned sheep - Dolly - is born in Scotland.

1998 - Japan launches it's own Mars probe.

2003- World Health Organization announces that all person to person transmission of SARS has ceased.
