Seems a bit that this is the day for women - read on:

1456- 25 years after the execution of Joan of Arc, she is found not guilty.

1550- Chocolate introduced (yay chocolate!)

1802- the first comic book ever is published - "The Wasp".

1807- Alexander I of Russia and Napoleon sign Treaty of Tilsit, ending war between Russian and France.

1863- First military draft introduced.

1891 - travelers checks are patented.

1898- President McKinley annexes Hawaii.

1928  - Sliced bread sold for the first time by the Chillicothe Baking Company of Chillicother, Missouri.

1941- U.S. occupies Iceland to keep nazis out.

1946- Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini is the first American to be canonized and recieve sainthood. Mother Cabrini's Shrins sits on the hills above Denver.

1948- Six female reservists are the first women sworn into the regular U.S. Navy.

1958- President Eisenhower approves Alaska's statehood.

1961- Jimmy Hoffa becomes chairman of the Teamster's Union.

1967 - Beatles release "All You Need is Love" and "Light my Fire" by The Doors becomes the #1 song

1969- First battaion of U.S. troops is withdrawn from Vietnam.

1969- In Canada, french is legislated to be equal to English and useable throughout the federal government.

1976- Women enroll at the U.S, Military Academy, better known as West Point.

1981- President Reagan nominates Sandra Day OConnor to be the first woman to be seated on the Supreme Court

2005- Four terrorist bombs rip through the London tansport system, killing 56 people, including the suicide bombers who carried those four bombs.

2006 - The Western black rhinoseros declared extinct due to poaching.

2007  - Pope Benedict XVI issues the  Apostolic letter "Summorum Pontificum, removinf restrictions on celebrating the Tridentine Mass - one of the most widely celebrated masses.
