If you are going to focus on organic traffic--that is traffic from search engines the global monthly search volume is the number that you want to focus on for now.

You want to find keywords that have a search volume of anywhere between 300 and 10,000 searches per month. This is a relatively safe range within which you can potentially rank competitively without a huge amount of effort. Your goal in all of this research is to find the best keywords that are related to your topic and that will allow you to reach page one on Google. Use these research techniques to compile a list of 20 or so keywords to use in your content on your site.
