Its a new trend to mix backsplash materials. In the photo below a copper backsplash fills the area under the cabinets and even up beside the stove hood and up to the ceiling. Then the Wine & Roses tile mural on tumbled stone sets the focal point of the kitchen. Copper and tin backsplashes are just one of the new trends in kitchen design. Other trends include glass tiles, subway tiles and even stainless steel backsplashes. There are fabulous tiles borders and travertine framing tiles available at your local home improvement store

 Need some simple backsplash ideas? Try just placing a few decorative accent tiles in with your field tile. In the photo below, 4x4" accent tiles by artist Linda Paul are mixed in with travertine subway tiles. This creates little vignettes of interest.  if you are renting you home and can install a backsplash, you can frame the accent tiles and hang them under your cabinets.

 You can frame individual accent tiles in colorful frames and hang them in groups of three, six or nine (as in the picture below).  The frames come in 4x4" or 6x6" decorator colors
