Dog Training

Dogs are pack animals, and in order to train them, a patient and persistent effort is a must for the trainer. Many dogs require a myriad of techniques in order to be trained properly. Some will respond to praise, while others may require a small amount of force to curb the unwanted behavior. It's about being able to read your dog to find the best way. Dogs will not train themselves, persistence and a willingness to make it happen is the only effective method.

Dog training collars

Dog training collars are a great option for dogs with severe obedience issues, and especially for dogs that engage in dangerous behaviors. These particular collars now work with a remote device allowing the owner or trainer to correct their behavior from a distance. Perhaps your dog is a bully and aggressively goes after small children, or perhaps chases cars; well, a training collar will correct the dog immediately and stop him or her form engaging in the behavior. Maybe you're out in public and your dog will not stay at your side, the corrective collar trains your dog to submit to your will.  This is a good option to look into when other, less aggressive training options have failed.

Dog obedience training

Dog obedience training is another effective method for training, and should be sought when other methods prove to be fruitless. Many programs offer simple techniques that include help with summoning your dog, house breaking issues, and free leash walking. It is possible to have a well-trained dog that can actually be an enjoyable frustration-free part of your life. However, it is up to you to decide whether or not your dog needs mild training or something a bit more severe. Many dogs respond to a directive voice or warm praise, yet others will scoff at many of these attempts. It is important to offer praise when your dog does well; do not punish your dog for its mistakes because it instills negativity. Perhaps giving your dog food when he or she acts correctly, or even a mild tug with the leash will often bring positive results.

Dog training tips

Effective dog training tips usually rely on learning theory and research consisting of trial and error runs. A very important and simple tip that is often overlooked is the use of the dog's name. Get down on the level of the animal, and speak using his or her name. Furthermore, do not let your dog ignore your commands; this merely encourages rebelliousness. Stand behind your command; do not attempt half measures! Make your demands quick, to the point, and with assertiveness. Make sure that your dog knows that you love him or her by giving praise when correct behavior is displayed.

This is a also a good point: you will need to know when to give up on a dog.  Sometimes you will get to a point in your training and you will realize that you cannot do any more; that no more progress can really be made.  You need to learn when you have hit this wall when training an animal and learn to put on the brakes.  Do what you can but realize there are limits.

If you take the time to properly train your dog, then the relationship you have with the animal can be greatly enhanced over the years.  Obedience will lead to better memories overall, and certainly less problems and incidents with the dog.  A well trained dog can become more than a companion; they can actually be a real friend because the animal will be so much more helpful and compassionate due to their training.
