There is an enormous difference between good quality, reputable Labrador Retriever breeders and people who are simply selling puppies for the money. The difference can be seen in many different areas, including the care the puppies receive, the screening process (if any) they have for the potential owners, the conditions of the environment in which the puppies live, and the guarantees (if any) offered.

Remember that not only is your choice of breed important, but so is your choice of Labrador Retriever breeders. Your decision will influence the kind of puppy you bring home, and the type of breeding facility you are supporting with the money of your purchase.

Bad, unethical Labrador Retriever breeders will often breed their dogs too frequently, in inadequate conditions, and will sell to just about anyone - including pet stores - in order to make their money. They don't put any additional effort into making their dogs happy, healthy pets, and they don't provide any guarantees.

On the other hand, reputable Labrador Retriever breeders know that puppies aren't just inventory. They're family members that begin learning just about as soon as they're born. Therefore, these good quality Labrador Retriever breeders will be very involved in the early socialization and training process, will raise their pups in a clean and happy environment, will feed their dogs well, will be selective as to who can adopt from them, will never sell to a pet store, and will provide a contract that guarantees certain genetic health and temperament elements of the puppies.

Good Labrador Retriever breeders work hard to make sure that the puppy you bring home is healthy, well mannered, easy to train, and a good example of the breed.

To find the right Labrador Retriever breeders, you'll need to do your homework. Typically, they are not the people who advertise on hand-made signs at the side of the road, or who list in newspapers. You may have much better luck searching online. Make sure that any Labrador Retriever breeders you consider are registered with the American Kennel Club or have other equivalent credentials.

You'll want to ensure that you can see the environment in which the puppies are kept, and that you get a good feeling about the breeder him or herself. Furthermore, you should feel reassured when you undergo a good interview with the prospective Labrador Retriever breeders. This ensures that you're happy with what they are providing, and that you will be capable of giving their puppies the care they expect.

I recently moved house and 'inherited' a 2 year old Lab. This poor dog had been kept out on a chain all of her life. Needless to say, it was not long before she was in thehouse, all tucked up and warm. Considering her early life, Tess, is a loving dog who has the best temperament you could wish for. People say that Tess is lucky, but we think we are the lucky ones to have her!
