The Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the United States, and in order to make sure that your puppy becomes a terrific companion animal, you'll need to know how to train a Labrador Retriever effectively. Naturally, puppies don't come pre-trained, so you'll need to patiently make the effort, and know what you're doing.

Knowing how to train a Labrador Retriever isn't always obvious, and it can't be undertaken randomly and without a certain level of commitment in mind. You need to have a plan, with set goals, and ways in which to reach those goals.

Though Labrador Retrievers are already terrific dogs, it isn't until you learn how to train a Labrador Retriever that you'll understand how to make those dogs into fantastic companions and pets. This is a moderately challenging exercise that should be undertaken with lots of motivation and virtually endless patience.

The first step in how to train a Labrador Retriever is to socialize him or her. This simply involves getting your puppy used to being around different people and visiting different places.

The second step is to make sure that your puppy has enough exercise. Even if you use the best tools and techniques and you know exactly how to train a Labrador Retriever, if he or she has too much energy built up, you won't get very far. Remember, those puppies are little furry balls of energy. You'll want to train your dog at a time that he or she is awake, but not at the highest energy level. Play with your dog and exercise him or her frequently so that you can find a calmer training time.

When you're learning how to train a Labrador Retriever, you'll discover that it's best to start with the basics and not try to jump into amusing tricks. Instead, work with foundation commands such as "sit", "come", "down", and "stay". These will give you much better control over your dog and will give you and your dog a basic level of communication from which further commands can be developed.

Always use positive reinforcement to encourage your dog when he or she has done the right thing. This will teach your dog that he or she has understood properly and that you're happy with his or her behavior. You'll soon understand that an important part of how to train a Labrador Retriever is the fact that he or she wants to please you very much.

Labs are very intelligent. As someone once said, some dogs will die only half trained,, labs are born half trained already.

I love labradors and have known several. I must say, I've noticed the same thing as Stephen, who commented that his lab loves people but is aggressive to other dogs. It seems to be a common trait in labradors - maybe they think they're people? :)

i guess you have to regular walk around your dog so that he/she will be familiar with other dogs, they think every dog are stranger to them like in human
