The Ladybug Poem

Although you are known

the world around,

you're firmly anchored

with feet on the ground-

a noble bug

is how they refer to you,

yet you don't pretend to be anything more

than a ladybug through and through-

a most colorful character

well regarded in folklore,

whilest other with loftier aspiration

may never receive such admiration...

indeed, could you ask for more?

no, you don't put on airs

as you climb a flower so fair

nor for the opinion of others

do you even care...

you don't stop to think about

those that are bigger, faster,

or mightier than you-

you just continue to climb up that wall

and many marvel and say

"she is so small..."

but the little ladybug pays no mind-

she just does it any way...

a humble little creature of this earth

so satisfied with his turf

a divine inspiration

"to thine ownself be true,"

oh little bug,

how we could all learn from you!

Ladybug, Oh Where Are You?

Ladybug, ladybug

red with black spot are you,

climbing up that rose

you are in view...

ladybug, ladybug

oh where are you now,

that sun is down,

I don't see you around...

tucked away

inside a rose,

do you lay

sleeping sound...

down a country lane

or on my window pane...

ladybug, ladybug

please come back again.

Lydia the Ladybug Poem

There was once

a little ladybug

who had a heart of pure gold-

for those who would behold,

she radiated a kind of glow...

she'd do kind deeds

like planting flower seeds

where e'er she would reside-

spreading beauty far and wide...

as if meant

from Heaven to be sent,

to spread love

was her single intent...

one day a spider

who lived in a Wood,

and heard about the little bug's

nature to do such good

weaved a pair of wings

from the finest lace

to match this ladybug's grace...

and for all to see as a sign

for whom it was meant,

that a life of compassion

is most noble spent.

Happy to Be Me- a Ladybug

I'm a ladybug

nothing more

but I'm happy to be me,

so free,

with so much beauty to see...

I'm red with black spot

found in field,

meadow,

or flower pot...

on blade of grass,

tree limb

shrub or flower,

perhaps even on the Eiffel Tower!

hill or dell,

by a stream

in wood serene-

I've been to so many places

it's hard to tell...

I'm very little

but please do not belittle,

just content to be a creature of this earth,

isn't that a measure of worth?

The Ladybug Birthday Party

The little ladybug woke up

and remembered,

it was a most special day-

her little friend's birthday

was today...

Her little abode-

a sweet little rose

with crystal droplets of dew,

reflected sunlit petals

into a rainbow of hue.

Now she must hurry

no time to tarry,

as she made cupcakes

vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry-

making a pot of rosehips tea

she spiced it extra carefully...

She then tidied up

picking a fresh

bouquet of buttercup,

to place on her table

with party favor

for little bugs to savor...

Ribbons were hung

and balloons strung

to celebrate such an occasion...

she heard the doorbell ring

the guests had arrived-

oh, what presents they did bring!

Then they all danced to a tune

that the ladybug wrote,

by the light of the silvery moon,

and ended on a most harmonious note

as they all sang "Happy Birthday to you!"

Who would think such a tiny little creature could inspire such a delightful collection of poems! There's a magic here any child would love, and yet I'm an adult longing to return to my youth and attend one of Lydia's ladybug birthday parties! I've order the book, "Lydia The Ladybug" and cannot wait for it to arrive.

Do you know the Poem or song that has the words "Ladybug, Ladybug, fly away home"?

I love all these poems about Lydia! The power of the individual, and the value of life (no matter what size or species you may be) give these poems such an inspiring, light-hearted, and hopeful presence. The writing is excellent!

"The Ladybug Birthday Party" brings vivid images of frolic and fun to the table with cupcakes of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The festive occasion is toped off with a pot of rose hips tea (carefully spiced) and the result is the perfect recipe for celebration. Bravo, Marie Lawrence, your poetry expresses the wonderment and joy every birthday party should be and your poetic verse is superb.
