LATEST SWINE CASES (as of Saturday, June 20, 2009)

Nurse who cared for a swine flu patient at United Christian Hospital and went to work despite a sore throat (this is the first confirmed swine flu case/infection of a health care worker)

26 students at Australian International School (this brings the total number of infections at that school to 29; this is an outbreak and therefore, this school should close even for the summer holidays SINCE IT IS ALREADY LATE JUNE,unless some students have not yet finished their public examinations; international schools should not follow the unreasonable standards of local Chinese-medium schools teaching in the "mother tongue" that force students to stay in classes until mid or even late July and resume classes again on September 1; students need free time).

ECF Saint Too Canaan College (Shun Lee Estate) became the fifth secondary school to close for 2 weeks because of a single swine flu case.

Total # of Confirmed Cases: 172 (there is a rumored case in Tower 11 of Vista Paradiso in Ma On Shan, but this seems to be unsubstantiated).

According to University of Hong Kong microbiologist Ho Pak-leung speaking after news of the nurse at United Christian Hospital got infected, "If the workload is too heavy and there is a shortage of labor, it is more than natural to miss things. The nurse should not be blamed".

Implications/Analysis/Comments: "The nurse should not be blamed" in this case, AS LONG AS SHE DOES HER BEST TO PREVENT HER COLLEAGUES AND PATIENTS WHO DON'T HAVE SWINE FLU FROM BECOMING INFECTED.
