Michael Losier
Michael Losier

Book Review by Linda Fraser, Victoria BC February 2003

Michael Losier's new book Law of Attraction, is more than just another new age 'how to' manual. It is the fruit of a lengthy search on the author's part for ways to improve his own life and relationships.

Michael is a business coach and motivational speaker. He also reaches an international audience with his TeleClasses. Even when speaking to an audience, Michael is a real person, his presentations far from the oft-used tent revival styles. His humorous, low-key speaking style and genuinely warm personality is a refreshing change from the standard motivational guru. There is a generosity of spirit behind Michael's interactions with others. His audience likes him and wishes him well rather than hanging on to every word. Not that they don't.

The self-published book is attractively bound and well laid-out in the trade paperback style. What sets this book apart is its tone - it is written for business people and takes a practical approach to explaining what the law of attraction is and how it works. The author proceeds to introduce and elaborate on how to use the law in "attracting more of what you want and less of what you don't." The three-step process for using the law of attraction: identify your desire, raise your vibration, and allow it. The law of attraction, simply put, states: "I attract into my life whatever I give my energy, focus and attention to."

What makes this book and system unique is that it offers a practical technique to overcome one's resistance to change. In his presentation Michael told the audience about the numerous times he had been told to "just allow it" when he asked about how to overcome resistance to change.

"If I asked again," Michael said, " they would say even more quietly 'just allow it,' as if by whispering the message it would somehow convey some meaning." Getting around resistance consists of not aiming the affirmations towards one's self but to the world in general, thus circumventing the tendency to immediately negate the affirming statement. The only aspect of the book to leave me unsatisfied was a case study he used that he didn't conclude with an outcome. Small grief.

Michael uses the system all the time. "I knew the book launch would be a big success," he told me the next day over breakfast. His enthusiasm is infectious; one finds oneself rooting for Michael's success. "Now I am working on being on the front page of the Times Colonist." Sure enough, the next Monday he was given a full ¾ -page in Times Colonist's living section. Next stop - Oprah.
