The Lawn Geese Holiday Fashion Show
74A number of years ago I was given a gift called “Martha Goose”; a ceramic momma goose and baby goose that came equipped with 15 different outfits. Now, I am not someone who decorates my house with a country theme, but these geese were just too darn cute to pass up.
The concept of “lawn geese” started in the Midwest about 30 years ago and in areas with warmer weather, the geese reside on your front porch. Owners are encouraged to change the geese outfits as seasons, holidays or moods change. One modern “geese outfit” website describes them as Barbie Dolls for adults.
Since I live on the East coast, I placed Momma and Baby right inside my front door, to greet visitors as they entered. Each month I’ve changed their outfits to match the season or holiday. My original gift came with matching outfits for the two geese with winter, spring, summer and fall themes plus distinct outfits for Christmas, July 4th, and Easter.
I’ve discovered a number of websites that sell expansive lines of lawn geese clothing including lines by occupation (ex. realtor or chef goose) and sports interests (ex. golfer or hiker goose.) You can also request custom made outfits.
I recently did a fashion shoot with my geese that I’d like to share. These include some of the cute original outfits and a few additions.
