Laying Ceramic Tile.

What to you do when your beautiful ceramic tile floor has a cracked or broken tile?

Well, I was talking with two friends about this just a few days ago and we agreed that:

"In order to avoid cracked or broken tile, you must have careful preparation in the beginning stages of laying a ceramic tile floor, you know the floor leveling, cement board and all those steps you have taken in the beginning stages.

With time, some tiles may crack. It happens, what do you do?

You have 1 option, or 2 if you decided to do nothing. That's always an option depending on where the broken tile is and how badly, right. But getting back to option 1.

That's to take the tile out and only if you have a piece to replace it with. I said in another article that you should always keep a few extra pieces of tile just in case. This is one of those cases.

It's not going to be easy to take that old tile out but it can be done with a little work. Don't forget to get the old cement out also. You'll probably be using a chisel doing most of the work. And be careful.

Tip for the day...

You have to make sure the grout match with the replacement tile. How do you do it?

You simply clear the old grout with oxygen bleach. Just mix a little in a cup until you have a milky solution. Now just place a little on the old grout and spread it out. After the solution has sat for about 10 to 15 minutes you can use a tooth brush to clear that old grout at that point. This will be hard work, depending upon the area in need of cleaning.

Now here's an option I just heard about and the reason for this article.

Option 2

Step one. Fill the cracked area with clear epoxy. Use a tool pick to fill the crack with the epoxy. Once the epoxy dries you use fine a paint brush to paint over the crack, (make sure the paint matches the tile). After it dries, you coat it with one or two coatings of clear urethane and you're done.

This is a heck of a lot easier than option 1, wouldn't you agree?
