Learn HTML
49Learn HTML
Along time ago on an Internet far far away we used to build all of our websites from scratch using HTML. HTML Stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and was the original standard for all browsers to be able to interpret a website and display it correctly. While HTML is still used on every website, if I were brand new to making websites and wanted a place to start, learning HTML would not be the place for me. Instead I would learn 1 software package and how to manipulate it to do all of the things I want it to do, and I am not talking about Dreamweaver or the dreaded Frontpage. I would learn to use either Wordpress or Joomla. If you know how to use either Wordpress of Joomla then you are way ahead of the battle and learning the little bit of HTML and PHP that you will need to know along the way will just come to you as you manipulate either of these 2 software packages.
The only reason that I can think of that a person should take the time to learn HTML in this day and age would be that they are interested in a career in web development or they want to be a web designer. To expand on that if a person was looking into becoming a web designer I would concentrate on CSS more than anything else and as a purely profitable venture I would learn to design Joomla templates. In either case I would highly recommend that a person interested in learning HTML or becoming a designer enroll in a basic web development class at their local community college, because there are many things taught in those classes that are not in the standard books like HTML for dummies or web publishing with HTML.
The only reason to learn HTML would be because you want to have a website. If you want to have a website then I would suggest you spend more time on learning how to market your site, than you do on how to build your site. Use the free resources that are available all over the internet today and build a great looking professional site in a matter of just a few minutes and spend the rest of your time driving traffic to your site. Do your Keyword research, and use proper HTML linking techniques and leave the HTML to the professionals. The experts who built Joomla and Wordpress Knew how to display a website properly when they put their respective software packages together, there is no need for you to do their job also.

I learned HTML as part of my library studies course, i could not understand it, i hate typing those codes, just one missed character and it won't work.......but in the end i am glad I have that knowledge.
Hey thanks! Actually that is really helpful. I know my way around Wordpress pretty well--I'll check out Joomla now too. (o:
