My Story

I am the parent of a dyslexic daughter. My child problems started in the 5th grade . Up until then she was did fairly well in school. None of her teacher had problems with her. She was never good at reading or writing but she was able to pass her classes.

When she reached the 5th grade she began to fail her classes. As the work got more difficult she began to act out and withdraw. Her verbal skills and abilities were average but her reading and writing abilites were below average something just did'nt make sense. Finally a counselor in the shool suggested getting her tested for a learning disability.  After many test (and much worring on my part) she was diagnoses with Dyslexia.

As a parent I was very concerned , but I knew nothing about dyslexia or learning disabilities. I mmediately began doing research. I found out that dyslexia could be overcome with the right help, but as a parent I would have to be proactive and learn as much as I can about helping her.

After The Diagnosis

After my daughter was diagnosed I had lots of questions but the first question I asked was what's next. How do I deal with this so that my daughter has a productive education without becomming self conscious or loosing her self -esteem. I became a information maniac. I looked up every website that I could on dyslexia, learning disabilities and how I could be proactive and help my daughter. That was 5 years ago.
