If you want to learn to dance it is not very difficult. There are a lot of dance classes, courses, indpendent dance teachers and dance schools where you can take up lessons to learn to dance or train to become a professional dancer.

There are a lot of different styles of dancing and which style you choose to learn is based on your own choice. You can learn ballet, jazz, streetdance, breakdance, contemporary, latin, tap, modern, bellydance and lots of other styles.

If you want to learn to dance but have never danced before you can take a beginners class or enrol on a dance course for beginners. Then you will be able to learn the different steps and moves you need to know for your chosen style of dancing. Plus you will get used to learning different combinations of those moves and also learn popular dance routines and choreography.

You can find dance classes at your fitness club, local gym or at a well known dance studio. There are so many good dance teachers out there so you should find one that you like and a class which you enjoy.

Or you could hire a private teacher to learn the basics but as you progress and improve you will probably find that you will enjoy dancing in a group more

Learning to dance professionally is quite hard. You have to do a lot of physical training and be very fit but again if you start slowly and build up on your training you will progress very fast and find that you move from beginner to intermediate and then advanced levels in no time.

Of course there are dancers who have been training since they were young and they have some advantage over others who start in their teens or early twenties. But that does not mean you cannot learn to dance professionally and be a success.

Dancing is for any age and many fitness enthusiasts choose to dance as part of their fitness training. In fact it is a popular form of exercise and there are many dance workouts and dance fitness classes that you can find to do.

Thanks for the great hubpage! I agree with you, finding a good teacher is quite easy. The part I found hard was to choose which style to start with, the best way I think it to watch different dance classes before deciding. At least it helped me a lot! I think dancing is the best way to get fit, because you're so busy having fun, you don't notice how hard you're working!

Unfortunately many dance styles are challenging for older people, because they require a certain amount of flexibility and strength.  Ballroom and Latin dancing (as on Dancing with the Stars) is achievable but not very cardiovascular.

For mature women, I reckon you can't go past belly dancing. Most classes have a really supportive, "sisterhood" type environment, welcoming women of all ages (the oldest I've met is over 70, the youngest 11).  Simple moves are achievable by anyone but the exercises really improve abdominal and leg strength and posture.

Can I add one of my dancing Hubs to the list?
