Life is short. Break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.

Life is short, how short? That neighbor that you have been meaning to stop and say hello died over the weekend unexpectedly. You thought you had the time later to stop but just did not take that time just to say hello. Time is short and so is life. Don’t let it pass you !

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don’t just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it.

WHERE DO YOU START?

The first things you should do is write down all you know about yourself, then your family (mom and dad and siblings) and work backwards to your grandparents, great grandparents, and so on. Chances are someone already has started this process; if so your job will be easier.

Here is a fun questions to start asking your mom. Grab a journal or a tape recorder to record the answers.

Each day I will add to the questions. After questioning your immediate family go to your aunts, uncles, grandparents, well you get the picture.

Now for the questions:

Mom, What is your full name and was there a reason why you were named that?

Where and when were you born?

Do you have any brothers and sisters? If so, how many and what are there names?

Mom, were you named after someone? If so, who?

Mom, did you have a nickname as you were growing up?

If you did, what was it and why did they call you that?

Mom, have you had any other nicknames as an adult If so, what are they?

Mom, what is your favorite childhood memory?

Mom, was there a chore you really hated to do as a child? If so, what was it and why did you hate doing it?

Mom, what kind of books did you like to read when you were a child? What were some of your favorite titles and why did you like them?

Mom, do you remember having a favorite nursery rhyme or bedtime story? If so, would you tell me about it?

Mom, what were your favorite toys?

Mom, who was the oldest person you can remember being in your family when you were a child?

What do you remember about that person?

Mom, how is the world different now from what is was like when you were a child?

Mom, what were your favorite childhood games?

What was school like?

Did you ride a bus, walk, or ride a bike?

Mom, what was your favorite subjects in elementary school, then high school?

What was your least favorite subject?

Remember that genealogy is history made alive. It is not just dates and names, it is the wonderful stories of the lives of people who shape us and mold us. Stories that should be passed down from generation to generation. Investigate then relate.
