.

i unfurl in many colours

little by little when you are taken to the night

or suddenly when you are inclined to behold

as red as the sun in times of war, incensed

as blue as your wintering soul, disconsolate

as white as your thoughts in prayer, midflight

like purple, passim, prismatic through glass

i flood your air, headily

                 cautiously like autumnal leaves descending

or frantically like stormy weather unbound

with pefumes that even Chloris would covet

aromas so strong raptuous dreams are born

then again...perhaps i remain unremarkable

a whiff, or a spoor easily lost among names

i am everything for you

i am ethereal, divine, cosmic and celestial

but i, too, am worldy, temporal, and finite

i dwell in marbled halls and in your everyday

i am in every passing fancy that passes by

but to my great tragedy and the world entire

you only see beauty where you choose to see

i am love, but not yours

i am Narcissus, but not like a flower

i am Narcissus, but not like the flower

Cris: I was sipping a cup of warm milk (I know, I know it sounds boring, lol) before drifting off to sleep, and had to stop as I got caught up in the dance of the poem's words, and the colors which express each emotion beautifully.

Thanks for this beauty, along with the photo which captures the poem, may it touch my dreams~

I could use a cup as it is raining here! And torrentially I must add.

Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate your choosing to read this over sleep albeit momentarily. Yes, may it inspire you in your dreams so you'd wake up with a thought of a hub in your head, or heart :D

evocative and inspiring, yes -- odd that such calm be found in the idea of Narcissus. I need to re-read a few times, I think!

Cris, I think that your genius in using 'Narcissus' gave this poem dual meaning. The aroma of a flower and the romance it creates when someone catch but a whiff, and how enchanting it is. In another aspect, I read it again, with the knowledge of the story in mythology of Narcissus hero, and the unrequited love of Echo...then on to the tragic end of Narcissus, and the myth of the Narcissus flower. I enjoyed this one as well, Cris. Beautiful. A work of art, visually and poetically.

sandy

And I think I did quite good as Teresa herself got quite intrigued after reading. But like what I told her - I shall keep you guessing. Besides, there's no right and wrong answer.

mythology is a rich resource for inspiration. nobody is as tragic as the gods and the goddesses and the mortals that dalianced with them. Thanks for the wonderful comment as usual. :D

This is beautiful, Cris and, as always, so well written. One question: The flower, in the image, looks like a Clematis. They are very fragrant, but do not bloom at night. Is this just one flower or an overlay of more than one? If so, what kind(s) of flower? Just curious.

yeah i think it's a clematis (after searching google images again! LOL) and you are right, there are two layers. a "clematis" and a lily. Anyway, glad you enjoyed this one, too :D

Hello my friend, You have another beautiful masterpiece under your name, but of course, I would not expect anything else from you. The pics are elegantly beautiful and blend right in with the splendor of your words.

I am not sure if you are really talking about flowers or the human spirit, "i am everything for you i am ethereal, divine, cosmic and celestial but i, too, am worldy, temporal, and finite" probably both. I love your poetry because it can be interpreted in many ways, depending on a person's moods. Thanks my friend for sharing the beauty within. :-)

Cris,

I have sent a comment to this poem much earlier. Technical glitz, I suppose, that my comment hasn't landed on your page.

Anyway, what I wanted to say earlier was that this poem sounds close to what Narcissus of Greek Mythology would have said about unrequited love. Or, maybe it's just my interpretation. But thanks just the same for sharing your sense of beauty with us.
