like a flower

.
i unfurl in many colours
little by little when you are taken to the night
or suddenly when you are inclined to behold
as red as the sun in times of war, incensed
as blue as your wintering soul, disconsolate
as white as your thoughts in prayer, midflight
like purple, passim, prismatic through glass
i flood your air, headily
cautiously like autumnal leaves descending
or frantically like stormy weather unbound
with pefumes that even Chloris would covet
aromas so strong raptuous dreams are born
then again...perhaps i remain unremarkable
a whiff, or a spoor easily lost among names
i am everything for you
i am ethereal, divine, cosmic and celestial
but i, too, am worldy, temporal, and finite
i dwell in marbled halls and in your everyday
i am in every passing fancy that passes by
but to my great tragedy and the world entire
you only see beauty where you choose to see
i am love, but not yours
i am Narcissus, but not like a flower
i am Narcissus, but not like the flower

Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate your choosing to read this over sleep albeit momentarily. Yes, may it inspire you in your dreams so you'd wake up with a thought of a hub in your head, or heart :D
evocative and inspiring, yes -- odd that such calm be found in the idea of Narcissus. I need to re-read a few times, I think!
Is this about Corazon Aquino, perhaps? It's intriguing.
Wait a minute, Cris A! You sly devil! YOU ARE A FILIPINO FLAG AREN'T YOU???

Chris, I love that you had the courage to break the mold and publish poetry. I am enjoying your writing immensely. You have my mind and eyes from hear on out.
cynthia
Wow that's kind of you to say. I appreciate it truly. There's an audience here for poetry - though not as big as what straight writing has. But still...
thanks for dropping by :D
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this with us!

Ahh love, so poetically put and Flora would be so honored that you mentioned her. Nice one my son. I really like the images you wrought in my mind along with the aroma of flowers.

hey ya tom!
well, I'm glad I hung on for dear (hub)life! LOL LYM!
Makes me want to close my eyes to see the imagery more clearly... just beautiful!
Cris, I think that your genius in using 'Narcissus' gave this poem dual meaning. The aroma of a flower and the romance it creates when someone catch but a whiff, and how enchanting it is. In another aspect, I read it again, with the knowledge of the story in mythology of Narcissus hero, and the unrequited love of Echo...then on to the tragic end of Narcissus, and the myth of the Narcissus flower. I enjoyed this one as well, Cris. Beautiful. A work of art, visually and poetically.
asbender
that's sweet! thanks for reading and commenting :D
sandy
And I think I did quite good as Teresa herself got quite intrigued after reading. But like what I told her - I shall keep you guessing. Besides, there's no right and wrong answer.
mythology is a rich resource for inspiration. nobody is as tragic as the gods and the goddesses and the mortals that dalianced with them. Thanks for the wonderful comment as usual. :D
Hey Cris - how great to see a poem here again, it's been a while. Evocative imagery for all the senses here. I love it as always.
This is beautiful, Cris and, as always, so well written. One question: The flower, in the image, looks like a Clematis. They are very fragrant, but do not bloom at night. Is this just one flower or an overlay of more than one? If so, what kind(s) of flower? Just curious.
Julie
Yeah I snuck this one to tide me over. LOL Thanks for dropping by. Glad you liked the read :D
alek
yeah i think it's a clematis (after searching google images again! LOL) and you are right, there are two layers. a "clematis" and a lily. Anyway, glad you enjoyed this one, too :D
You are so divine. It's been too long since I swam amongst your poetic words. Thank you.
Well I came over to see if you commented back, only to see that my comment didn't take. I'm so sorry.
Beautiful piece. I had the perfect words then... beautiful flow and emotion, powerful narrator.
Patty
Thanks for the kind words - you are always welcome for a swim :D
Frieda
I always try my best to please my friends. I'm glad it's appreciated. Thanks for reading and commenting as always :D
Oh cris this is an amazing work of art... The flow makes me want to wonder with each scent and each image drawn by the beautiful words of yours. The feeling portrayed through the verses in unexplainable. It brought this soothing feeling to my soul. You were made for poetry and it was made for you :D AMAZING
Uriel
That's too kind of you to say - i just, well, i just write. Hahaha see i'm at a loss for words! Anyway, thanks for reading and commeting :D
This is pure beauty in its finest form. i adore the pic too. Am i allowed to do my i's like you ROFL?
Truly Cris you need to get published,I will even stand out the front of the bookshops and show a little leg. Probably won't even need to do that, they will sell like little jam hot-cakes anyway. Love ya buddy. xo
Cris: I have left the link to your hub in my mailbox so I can read the poem and look at the photo again, and have my beauty and art "fix". LOL! I am serious, sometimes when I hear or read of the ugliness in the world, I like to connect to what inspires me. As BlondePoet says you need to get published!
Hello my friend, You have another beautiful masterpiece under your name, but of course, I would not expect anything else from you. The pics are elegantly beautiful and blend right in with the splendor of your words.
I am not sure if you are really talking about flowers or the human spirit, "i am everything for you i am ethereal, divine, cosmic and celestial but i, too, am worldy, temporal, and finite" probably both. I love your poetry because it can be interpreted in many ways, depending on a person's moods. Thanks my friend for sharing the beauty within. :-)
I have no recollection on how the hell I found this, or this site, but this is why I joined. :] Beautiful, I loved every part of it.
Dude! George McDonald would slap you a high-five and buy you a round, I reckon! Nice one:)
BP
Go ahed, but in your own hub! LOL Published?! Thanks, I take that as a compliment. Lurve ya bud :D
VS
That's some quick fix! LOL Thanks, I'm glad to know I'm (sort of) an inspiration. It fattens my heart to hear that (but in a good way). Thanks for reading :D
Whikat
You would not expect anything less - gee, thanks for pressuring me! LOL
I'm not sure now, what i was thinking i wrote this. but you are correct, it could be interpreted in any way and the good thing is there's no right or wrong interpretation - it's just conceived.
Emily
Well I'm sure glad you found yourself here. Thanks for reading :D
christian
Really?! Now I have to look for him as I could use a round. Thanks for the kind words :D
I like how your poetry is always full of color. Inspiring thoughts in every word. Keeps my mind open and my wheels turning. Very beautiful.
Nice, very nice.
Poetically written...full of motion, imagery and cadence.
This really does unfurl in many hues, tones and layers. Superb as always Cris!
fee, TF, Beth, Shalini
Thanks for reading and commenting. You inspire me back :D
VERY nice!!! I loved it! :D
thanks Eyes! :D
Cris,
I have sent a comment to this poem much earlier. Technical glitz, I suppose, that my comment hasn't landed on your page.
Anyway, what I wanted to say earlier was that this poem sounds close to what Narcissus of Greek Mythology would have said about unrequited love. Or, maybe it's just my interpretation. But thanks just the same for sharing your sense of beauty with us.
hey france
LOL it's alright. Besides, I know you a;ways drop by and read.
I was actually going for that then put a veil on it. I think I did well. Thanks for reading :D
I am reading this again. Your words are still beautiful, as always. Take care of you. -hugs-

@Tom
It's alright, my friend. There are some days that we just don't have enough time for everything. Thanks for reading :D
Oh, man. You sure do have the gift. I'm a fan now and look forward to more, when you feel like it.
This one...not the flower...it's something I just want to feel, I don't even want to figure it out.
Thanks for the kind words. I'll try my best to not keep you waiting out for too long.
Yeah, sometimes it works like that for me to. Getting lost in the moment and not bothering to know why.
Btw, kinda like your hubber name. That or 7th Heaven :D
This was beautiful. Just getting started by reading the work of others. There's some real talent out here!
Maria

Cris: I was sipping a cup of warm milk (I know, I know it sounds boring, lol) before drifting off to sleep, and had to stop as I got caught up in the dance of the poem's words, and the colors which express each emotion beautifully.
Thanks for this beauty, along with the photo which captures the poem, may it touch my dreams~
