Lipoplasty is the correct name for what most of us know as liposuction, a cosmetic treatment which removes fat from the thighs, stomach and bottom and is frequently used when other methods fail. Unfortunately, an unwanted side effect to this procedure is the return of the fat on occasion but from an area different from the one it was removed from.

Tumescent and Ultrasonic are the two most commonly used liposuction methods although there are other lesser known techniques. The most modern of these techniques is Tumescent and has become one of the most commonly practiced aesthetic cosmetic procedures in America.

The increasing use of Tumescent liposuction is down to the method it uses which limits the blood loss seen by traditional liposuction as it adds adrenaline to the solution. The tube used with Tumescent liposuction is much smaller and this is something else that helps to lessen the blood loss and bruising. Saline water is used as part of the liposuction treatment and if that volume is three or four times greater than the fat removed, it is called Tumescent Liposuction.

Removing fat from those hard to get areas like the upper abdomen, thighs, hips and back is possible with ultrasonic liposuction. The problem is that the surgeon has trouble seeing where the liposuction probe is located in the body so it is possible for internal organs to be punctured or damaged. It is always in the patient's interest to find out everything they can about the liposuction process before they commit to any cosmetic procedure.

Liposuction is normally straightforward procedure but can have side effects and very rarely, death, something in the region of 1 in 5,000. To help reduce this risk, it is important to first have an examination to make sure that an individual intending to have liposuction is healthy enough for the procedure to go ahead. With any procedure there is the risk of infection so cosmetic surgeons have to ensure any wounds are kept clean and prescribe antibiotic to liposuction patients. Techniques in cosmetic surgery have gone forward in leaps and bounds especially in the field of liposuction.

Lipo Dissolve is a liposuction alternative which is useful in the removal of small amounts of fat like cellulite for example as it uses many small injections. A gentler liposuction technique called Power-Assisted liposuction pushes into and out of the skin to take out the fat.
