Low Budget, High Impact Link And Traffic Sources

Short List: USFreeads, Google, Yahoo, and IdeaMarketers.

Generating traffic comes down to generating relevant links from a site with lots of traffic to the page you wish to drive the traffic to. Size of the referring site doesn't matter nearly as much in my opinion as linking from high PR sites. This gets you traffic and search engine visibilty, aka higher rankings. For seo purposes you need to get your top three preferred search phrases in the clickable link text in the following percentages:

  • 60% of the links should be your main search phrase.
  • 30% should be your second targeted search phrase.
  • 10% should be your least important search phrase.

Links should be added slowly to look natural to the search engines and to help you track what sites are sending you traffic. Linking from all of the powerhouse links listed here (mostly PR7-8 range) at your site in a week or less is very likely to get those links sandboxed by Google. Note that G doesn't necessarily ban the site, it just makes it less visible on their search engine for a few months by selectively disallowing links as it sees fit.

Being sandboxed is not as bad as many people seem to think it is, as every site enters the world "sandboxed". Google is not the only source of quality traffic, nor is it by default the best.

Some days you may not add any links. Some days you may only add one or two. On another day you may or may not add as many as eight links. The idea is to avoid looking like a program or organized seo campaign.

I think of it like makeup or neon- done right, the result is stunning. Overdone, the effect is hideous. Somewhere in between is still workable in many cases, assuming knowledge of at least the basics.

Like high school, the more cool kids you hang with, the cooler you look, and the more options you have.

Link quality beats link quantity every time.

Here's a short, sweet, and nowher near complete list of referring sites that Google sees as authority sites:

Propeller

These heavy hitters have page ranks in the coveted PR7 and PR8 range. Most SEO types will tell you never to get links from a PR0 site, but if you know the owners, I believe it actually helps your credibility with the search engines. After all, most sites, especially the newer ones aren't even PR1's. What you will be penalized for "associating with" socially undesirable sites like scammers, adult, hate, gambling, you know the drill.

Even though Google does index and sell ads for at least adult and gambling sites, they have to be kind of prudish in the language on the PG-13 side of the fence because America's always operated that way. Google didn't invent that quirk, they only inherited it from colonial days.

If you enjoyed this, please vote it up and refer others to it. Thanx.

Good Hub here, Matt, with relevant advice.

One thing I would also recommend is that the sites that link back to you are also relevant - while it's great to have high PageRank sites linking to you, just as authoritive are complementary sites.

So, a publishing house linking to a writer's site; a health authority linking to a medical advice site; and so on. The value in these types of link cannot be underestimated!

Great Hub, look forward to reading more :)
