If you are one of the people who dream of living on a boat fulltime and need suggestions on how to talk your wife  or husband into making that move here are some of the things that I love about living on a boat fulltime, (and I fought several years NOT to move on a boat)…

I love the fact that cleaning is a breeze. It takes the 2 of us less than 20 minutes to clean. We have 3 rooms and its more than enough space for us. Once the cleaning is done, the rest of the day is ours.

We got to know each other so much better since moving on the boat. We are no longer couch potatoes that watched television all the time and ignored each other. We actually have meals that we talk and laugh like we used to.

We have very little stress anymore. How can you be stressed when you have beautiful surroundings? We don’t sit and worry about things, there isn’t time to do that. We are outside being active. We walk or fish and visit with neighbors. We actually do things together and have fun while doing it.

Our children come and visit us frequently. Since we live on the water we are near the beach. They vacation here with us and we have such a good time together. We have a better relationship with them now since we moved. We take the boat out when they are here and we get away from it all except for the things that matter most to us, our family.

We have all the conveniences of a house, we have a full kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and we are hooked up to internet and cable television.  While our boat doesn’t have a washer and dryer, I use the onsite laundry facilities here most of the time he will do the laundry while I’m making dinner.

The boat is small enough to be cozy yet I have the items that I want on the boat. We have really downsized quite a bit, but I don’t miss those items, I learned that people are more important than items.

Our bills are almost nil, electric and water is included In the slip rent, we no longer have to work fulltime to make ends meet, we can work fulltime a few months a year and save and take off the rest of the year if we wanted to. You will find that living on a boat gives you more freedom in the choices you make in your life. Your priorities change and things are just things. You don’t shop for items because there isn’t room for them, instead you find ways to do without things and you feel better about everything in your life.

This adventure has strengthened our marriage and it has been so much fun and so exciting. We are no longer out of shape; we are healthier than we had been in years, we are both happier and feel so much younger and we are enjoying life. We no longer work just to pay bills and to maintain a house on a piece of land that demands our constant attention and work for the upkeep. We feel as if we got our lives back and we are back in control of our destiny. And the best part is… there is nothing more romantic than watching the sunset on the deck of the boat. We do it almost nightly.
