Have you ever noticed that whenever anyone is angry about something, he or she usually takes it out on the people close to him. That person could be his girlfriend, boyfriend, parents or a friend. And in the process the person ends up hurting someone we care about and not the person who was the cause of anger.
A Scenario
John had a bad day at office, because due to recession he had to layoff five of his hardworking employees on the order from top management. After leaving office, he got stuck in traffic for over an hour. Then on his way back just when he was about to reach home, someone hit his car from behind. And until he could come out, the biker ran away. Finally when he reaches home, he finds out that his wife is not at home and he had forgotten to take the key and had to wait for another hour outside in cold. Instead of asking about the reason for his wife's absence from the house, he picks up a fight with her. And all of his frustrations comes out on her and ends in his wife sleeping in another room.
If we look look at the whole scenario closely, we will understand that John hurt her wife without any specific reason. And there was no fault of hers.
This happens with each one of us. Whenever we are angry, usually we get to hurt our loved ones. But why?
Because Its SAFE. We know that our loved ones will forgive us.
If this is happening one or two times. Things get back to normal. But if the frequency of nagging, anger or fights increases, then this may result in relationship going sour. Although no one wanted to but everyday fights may finally be taking toll on the people we care. This is also one of the reason which takes a person to adultery or at times divorce or breaking of the relationship.
When you are angry ..
Take a break from whatever you are doing or from the situation.
And
- Go on a long walk. This will help clearing your thoughts. Also will calm you down.
- Count slowly from one to ten. This will delay your reaction and weakenyour anger.
- Have a glass of water. This will act as a coolant.
When you are hurt ..
Everyone of us is hurt from time to time by our loved ones, sometimes intentionally (which is rare) and at times unintentionally. Some hurts are little and within a short time we forget about them. But some are painful. And every time we think of the person who hurt us, the pain and anger wells up inside again. But anger is not the solution nor it will lessen our pain.
So, best is to ...
Talk it out
Avoid the topic
Be kind and loving
And lastly,
Forgive. Forgiveness will strengthen your relationship.
When you have hurt ..
Acknowledge. We all make mistakes and accepting your mistakes in front of your loved ones will only make your position strong in the mind of people you care.
Apologise. A genuine apology accepts responsibility and heals the hurt.
Love means having to say sorry.
