Stuck in a romantic rut? Sick of nonsensical arguing with your partner? Just experienced a painful breakup?

Besides soothing words from friends and professional help from a psychiatrist, feng shui may as well help you improve your love life.

Feng Shui practitioners believe that the color of your bedroom can affect your love life a whole lot, yet it is often overlooked. By choosing your bedroom color wisely, you can create positive chi (energy/life force) between you and your partner, and direct it to work for your sensual fulfillment. Every couple has their own relationship issues, major concerns and goals; one color that works for some may not work for the others. Explore the following list of feng shui colors and find out which one may suit your situation and answer your desires.

Red

In feng shui, red represents fire, therefore it can be either elevating or aggravating. If you want to spice up your sex life, go for red. But if you have trouble settling down with your lover or have had a quarrelsome relationship, stay away from this color, or at least choose calmer shades of red instead of bright ones.

YELLOW

Yellow signifies earth, lucidity and optimism. In some Asian cultures, it has been considered an imperial color, and a lot of feng shui masters find it even more beneficial than red, in terms of wealth and health. Use bright shades of yellow if you seek for an open-minded, honest relationship. Use softer tones such as amber, daffodil and sunset gold to create mellow sensuality. If you often have an insomnia or feel self-conscious about your age, however, this color is not recommended for you.

ORANGE

Decor For Less!!!

A fusion of romantic red and enlivening yellow. One of the best feng shui colors for romance luck. It is a great color for a couple with polar opposites, for its vibrant energy can induce understanding and willingness to compromise. Unlike red, it can lend excitement without too much heat or jealousy. However, you may want to avoid orange, if you and your partner are very new to each other or have a rough time asserting your opinions. Congenial energy from this color could overly encourage you to give up your standpoint in order to maintain a stormless love life.

WHITE

White, in feng shui practice, is associated with the metal element. It stands for both purity and inner strength. For people seeking a sizzling sex life, white is probably not a good option. It has, nonetheless, more healing power than any other colors. Breakups can be excrutiatingly difficult to get over. If you have just experienced a painful breakup, decorate your bedroom with this color in order to clear your mind, renew your faith and nourish your courage to start afresh.

BLUE

Blue is often recommended by feng shui gurus for people who want to improve their health. In terms of romance luck, blue is an ideal color for cat-and-dog couples who somehow manage to argue with each other almost daily. Its association with water can bring harmony, flexibility and compassion to you and your partner. For singles, painting your bedroom blue can attract a lover who gives you peace of mind. If you suffer from depression, try to avoid this color or use vivid shades of blue instead of pastel ones.

PINK

With this blend of luscious red and immaculate white, your relationship can cultivate both sexual fufillment and altruistic love. It is perfect for every couple. If you use pink as the theme color of your bedroom, make sure that it is definitely pink. Pale pink with a tinge of orange is the color of peach blossoms, which, according to feng shui practitioners, may undermine the longevity of your relationship.

PURPLE

Some feng shui gurus say that purple is the color of spirituality. Like white, it contains the power of healing. And similar to blue, it radiates a harmonious energy to you and your partner. It is suitable for married couples or those who try to nurture their long-term relationship. If you hope for a steamy sex life, keep away from purple. If you are newly single and want to find yourself again, purple can enhance your spiritual insight and strengthen your sense of self.

GREEN

Green represents the wood element, hence in feng shui practice, it is the color of growth and change. Its evolving force is great for a couple stuck in a rut, or a single searching for an adventurous soul mate. If you and your partner have recently had a lot of turnarounds in your relationship or think you want to slow things down, it will be wise to minimize the use of green.

BROWN

Associated with the earth element, brown speaks of stability and reasssurance, the same way a good home provides warmth and protection. Paint your bedroom brown if you want to attract a faithful lover. Dark and medium shades of brown can energize your confidence and lessen your self-consciousness in bed, whereas lighter browns tend to calm your mind and stop you from overanalyzing your relationship. Stay away from this earthy shade, however, if you feel that your sex life has been so dull and needs to be juiced up.

Black is quite an unusual color for a bedroom. Perhaps it's because a lot of people tend to associate black with loneliness and sorrow. In feng shui, nonetheless, painting your bedroom black or using it as an accent color can be pretty beneficial to your relationship. Like blue, it stands for the water element, which promotes flexibility and understanding. Also, since it has the charm of mystery and invites exploration, it can attract an interesting lover who'd love to take you along adventuresome sexual avenues. One downside of black is that it's the color of obsession. So avoid this color if you're not ready to devote most of your time to your partner, and need some space to focus on other aspects of your life.

Great hub. I lke feng shui but I got a bit confused as advice in different books was contradictory. Still, I try to keep clutter away and I am trying to arrange my home office following the feng shui principles in the hope that I get inspired!

I love earth tone colors and my apt in NYC was decorated in beige, brown and peach tones. When my mate and I purchase a new home by the beach, I would love to decorate in turquoise, at least this is my fantasy!

Om Paramapoonya- Having the hardest time figuring how to recreate our bedroom. my fiance and i have strong, passionate personalities so too much red would be aggravating. But i don't want our sex life to suffer by choosing a lavender/purple setting. How about combining the 2 colors? Any advice? BTW- we rent an apartment, and the walls are off-white/cream, so it'd pretty much be the bedding color.

Hi vnesswink! Yes, combination of the two would be good. Orange and pink are also great colors for enhancing your relationship without creating too much "heat". And also you should accessorize your nightstand with things that come in a pair (candles, vases, cute little knickknacks, etc)

I need help with my bedroom. As I mentioned in another one of your hubs, it is mostly black. My walls are an off white and have to stay that way, as I rent my place. My partner and I are polar opposites and we need a little passion as we have 2 children who take up most of our time and energy. what can you suggest to help us? I don't think he would go for anything too girly ;) Acccents in orange? Cushions and artwork?

Yes, accents in orange would probably help. Make sure your room has a good balance of yin and yang colors. Yin colors help you relax, but too much yin can cause lethargy. Also, try to decorate the room with knickknacks that come in pairs. Pictures of peonies or mandarin ducks are believed to enhance your love life as well.

The orange room in the picture is nicely done, as orange serves as the accent in a room that's predominantly white. Good stuff you have here. I'm into home improvement myself.

Hi Maria. So the vanity, closet and bathroom are all in the bedroom? You can use as many colors as you like, as long as there's a good balance between the yin and yang energy. For a bedroom, you should use yin colors as the main colors because they promote calmness and relaxation. However, too much yin might create lethargy, so make sure you don't overuse yin colors such as green, pink and blue. Maybe you can add a bit more yang colors like red and white to balance it.
