Luna Park is a historical amusement park in Sydney, it first opened in 1935, its 70 years history includes multiple closures, change of ownership, legal battles and community action. Over the years, there has been some major redevelopment and restoration, in April 2004, Luna Park was reopen and has been open since then. It has become a most outstanding and recognisable feature of Sydney Harbour's northern foreshore.
Luna Park is located at Milson's Point just under the northern end of Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Luna Park is incredibly easy to get to and is accessible by:
Train : Milsons point station is right fnext to the Park and is only one stop from the CBD
Bus: Many bus routes run to the Park. Hop off at Alfred Street near the Olympic Park.
Ferry: Regular services run to Milson's Point Wharf from Circular Quay and Darling Harbour.
Car: Car parking available on site.
Entry is free with tickets for rides sold separately.
The famous Big Dipper and Ghost train are gone but some old fashion favourites remain including the Coney Island, The Rotor, the Carousel, the Wild Mouse, Dodgem cars and the beautifully restored Giant Ferris Wheel with its spectacular view of the Sydney Harbour.
A trip to Luna Park is not complete, without trying the traditional sideshow games and try to win some fabulous prizes on the Laughing clowns, Crazy Crooners, Goin' fishing and if you think you're up to it, you might even like to test your strength on the High Striker.
Don't forget to test some of the modern rides such as the Pirate Ship and Flying Saucer. Some rides have height restrictions but there are a special area of mini-rides for the little ones.
The free entry means that even if you don't want to ride you can stroll the waterrfront, enjoy the healthy snakcs that are available at the Fish 'n' Sips restaurants, have some ice cream or you can grab some fairy floss and simply enjoy the view.

I loved amusement parks when I was a kid, and I remember my father often mentioning Luna Park (the one in Brooklyn, New York, at Coney Island.) My favorite amusement park was Playland at Rye, N.Y., where the "Fun House" was one of the big features along with the Cinema Railway, a fantastic ride. Too many amusement parks have been closed down over the past several decades.
