How to Make Money Writing on HubPages
91There are all kinds of ways to make money online, but for me the most satisfying is when I make money writing about things that interest me. I've been a writer for years and even have my own website content company but it wasn't until I discovered blogging that the writer in me truly merged with the entrepreneur. Sure, I was able to make money writing for clients. But that's not the same as being able to generate income with no clients in sight and only your creativity and some simple Internet tools.
That's why I was intrigued when I first came to HubPages. I was a relatively new blogger, so I didn't know a lot about how to make money writing unless a client was paying me. HubPages offered the opportunity to make money with no money needed -- just talent -- so that seemed like something I would like to pursue. Armed with virtually no knowledge of search engine optimization, I earnestly set about trying to make money writing on HubPages. Lo and behold, it didn't work.

Why I Couldn't Make Money Writing on HubPages at the Beginning
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't HubPages' fault that I couldn't make money. It was my fault, even though I didn't know that at the time. Eventually, after a long time of making no money, I all but forgot about the hubs I had built and went off to do other things.
It wasn't until I met Grizzly of Make Money for Beginners that I got an inkling there was actually a way I could make money writing outside of my consulting business. Not that I got it right away, mind you. I was stubborn. But for no reason other than kindness, Grizzly encouraged me to pursue optimizing my blogs to get search engine traffic. I remember how difficult it was for me to understand some of the principles he was trying to teach. What he said seemed counter-intuitive to everything I understood from years of writing for marketing projects. It wasn't just about persuading human beings anymore, it was also about making copy friendly enough for search engine spiders. They might as well have been spiders from Mars for all the sense that made to me.
How I Learned to Make Money Writing on HubPages
Okay, that's enough about how I couldn't make money. I'm only sharing my own experience -- and revealing a good bit of my own ignorance and stubbornness -- to let you know that if you have been wanting to learn how to make money from home and had a similar reaction to search engine optimization and using seo software, you're not alone. I also want to tell you that if you want to learn how to make money writing on HubPages, keep reading. This hub is filled with tips and resources to move you well down the road toward making money online by using nothing but your talent and a great free resource. Although some of the following information pertains to ways you can earn money blogging or implementing other forms of Internet marketing, most of the advice is geared toward HubPages.
One final note before I go through my step-by-step approach that will help you make money writing on HubPages: If you already have hubs that aren't earning a cent, don't despair. With only a few exceptions, all the tips below can be applied to older hubs too. One of the first things Grizzly taught me was that it's never too late to turn a page into a revenue source by making it more search engine friendly!
STEP 1: Keyword Research
Keyword research is the most critical aspect if you want to make money writing online or in any form of Internet marketing. In a nutshell, keyword research will tell you which keywords (they're called that but they're usually actually "key phrases") people are searching for in Google. Other search engines use keywords as well but Google is where most of the traffic comes from.
There are many keyword tools out there. A good free one is AddMe's keyword suggestion tool. To use it, enter a term that fits the subject of your hub. When you click on the "Search" button, you'll be given a list of keywords that are variations on that theme, along with the approximate number of recent searches. These numbers may not be accurate but they will give you an idea of how one stacks up against another.
Choose one of the keywords that have a decent number of searches, and then enter it into a search engine to see how many sites are competing for that term. Many times it's actually better to choose a keyword with fewer searches if there are also significantly fewer competing sites.
Here's an example of why you need to check the competition: Let's say you're going after the keywords work from home or payday loans. The searches and ad revenue are probably off the charts for those terms -- but so is the competition. Do you really want to spend years trying to get them to number one in Google when you could easily choose other keywords that are easier to rank and could make you even more?
The explanation above is just a brief summary of the keyword selection process. I strongly suggest you learn more about how to choose the right keywords and implement them properly by subscribing to The Keyword Academy's Crash Course program. For only $1 you'll get access to powerful training videos and other resources that can make a HUGE difference in your earnings.
STEP 2: Incorporate Your Keywords and Categories into Your Hub Content
Once you've decided on one or more keywords you want to use, you'll want to incorporate them into your hub. Some people prefer to "keyword snipe" and just use one keyword, but you can also use multiple, related keywords.
2a. Write your title
The first place you'll want to place your main keyword in your hub title. Doing so will automatically place whatever words you enter in that field into your hub URL. If you enter your keyword in the title field but the HubPages system says it's already taken, alter the text a little (without altering your keyword phrase) until you find a name that it will accept. Initially use all lowercase when you create your title. You'll have the chance to change it to initial capitals later. You want to use all lowercase at first because that's how it will appear in the URL HubPages will create for you. It's a minor point but it looks neater and more professional to have it in all lowercase.
2b. Choose relevant categories
Once you're happy with the URL, you'll want to choose one or more categories. In fact, the system will force you to choose categories and a few tags. I discuss tags further down the page, so for now just enter a few keyword phrases or choose some of the HubPages suggested tags so you can meet this initial requirement. You'll focus in more on this area later.
To choose a category, begin by pulling down the menu, which will reveal the major categories. When you've chosen a major category, another pull-down menu will appear. Look through this to see if there are any subcategories that accurately describe your hub. If not, you can just leave the hub categorized under the major category. But if you see a subcategory that works, though, choose it. That will cause another subcategory pull-down menu to appear, so look through that as well. In some cases, there will even be a fourth pull-down menu. No matter how many menus appear, the only one you're obligated to choose is the major category. If you can find relevant subcategories, however, you should. That will help even more people find your hub. Here's a screenshot of the category pull-down menu before any categories have been chosen:
2c. Pick a starting layout
Next, you'll want to pick a starting layout. If you want to make money with AdSense, I recommend the option indicated with the red border around it below. That will give you a text box at the top, which is appropriate if you want AdSense to appear at the top of the page. This will be explained below under the AdSense section.
You'll see that this layout also has a photo capsule. You don't have to use it (any unused capsule in a layout won't appear in the live version of the page) but there is some advantage to having at least one image in your hub. HubPages lists hubs under categories, on the By Topic page, on your profile page and in other places, and there's an image next to every listing in each location. Those images are pulled from the first image in every hub. If there isn't an image, your profile image will be used. If you don't have a profile image, the image area will be blank next to every hub listing. Since most hubs have images associated with them, your page will be more competitive when people search HubPages if you have a relevant image associated with it. It's just human nature that people like to see what they're going to get before they click, so having an image that illustrates your hub topic can only help. There is one caveat though. You won't want that image to conflict with the AdSense display. Read below under the AdSense section to learn how to position the text and photo boxes for maximum effect. And if you need free image resources, see the Valuable Resources sidebar.
Afterthought: I violated one of my own rules about images in this hub. The image that appears next to listings for this hub is a chopped-up version of the "Valuable Resources" image above the blue sidebar box. Truthfully, it doesn't do much to show people what this hub is about. But I had limited room because of the hub layout , so I opted for my top image to be one that serves readers when they're on the page, as opposed to one that draws them in. So the bottom line is that you should do as I say, not as I do! ;-)
When the hub has been categorized and has a few tags, click the "Continue" button to actually create the hub.
2d. Edit your title
Once the new hub editing interface appears, you'll want to make your title compelling for both search engines (Google specifically) and human readers. So you'll want to keep the keywords in for the search engine spiders to see and then write a title around them that humans will also find compelling. For example, on this hub my main keyword is "make money writing." But that isn't the whole story. Because this hub is about making money writing on HubPages specifically, I incorporated that into the title. "Make money writing on HubPages" is also a minor keyword that would provide dribbles of traffic, so it didn't hurt to include it for that reason too. If you're struggling with your title because you're not sure which way your hub content is going to go until you write it, you can always write the title later, right before you publish the hub. You can also change the title any time after publishing, as you can do with any of the text.
2e. Write your hub
Now you'll want to get down to writing your hub. Until you get used to working with hubs, you should write in a text document, as opposed to writing directly in the HubPages editing interface. You can also write in Word or another word processing program, but be sure to paste your copy into a text document before you paste it into your hub. This will keep out the strange formatting that word processing programs usually insert. As you write, incorporate your keywords into your text a two or three times each, as naturally as you can; you don't want to make your text hard to read just to get your keywords in. If you write a long enough hub, it will be easy to get them in multiple times without it seeming strange.
2f. Link to your other Web properties
You might also want to use your hubs to link out to your Web site(s) or blog(s) so people can visit them. Just don't use more than two links to any one domain (URL) other than HubPages. If you do, your hub will be flagged. If it is, just remove any extra links and the flag will be removed. If you don't fix this, however, the hub may have to be reviewed by the HubPages community manager before it can go live. Also, be sure your HubScore is above 74 at all times, because any links you put in the hub will be "no followed" (ignored by Google) if it isn't. How do you keep your score above 74? Write consistently quality hubs and make some of them at least 800 words. It helps to throw in a poll or video occasionally too. The more rich and diverse your hub content, the higher your score.
2g. Insert a news capsule
If you run out of things to say on your
topic, insert a news capsule and use either your keyword or a variation
of it to insert a news feed into your hub. This will give you relevant content without having to actually write it. You don't
want to use the news capsule instead of writing your own unique content,
mind you. The news feed will help you add more content that provides value -- but only if you already have value there to begin with.
To learn how to use news capsules and to insert text into the HubPages editing interface, visit ultra-Hubber Darkside's extensive HubPages capsules tutorial or the official HubPages staging and arranging capsules page. HubPages and Darkside also have other HubPages-related tutorials, which are in the resources area in the sidebar. This hub will go on forever if I try to cover everything, so I suggest that you access those other hubs to learn some of the basics.
STEP 3: Insert HubPages Tags
3a. Use your keywords to create tags
As I mentioned above, this step is slightly out of place, because you'll have already been asked to enter some tags when you made the hub. But those will be just to get you started. Once the hub has been created you'll want to add more tags in the gray bar on the far right of the page, as shown in this screenshot:
You'll definitely want each of your researched keyword phrases to be included. You can also include terms people are searching for currently on HubPages. to do so, see the Popular Topics page. You can then enter any topic tags you see on that page that are relevant.
HubPages also provides "Suggested tags," which are based on your content and appear underneath the tags you've already chosen. If any of those seem appropriate, just click to add them. But don't go too crazy adding these; many times the suggested tags aren't relevant.
3b. Add summary text
The Summary Text box is the place that you describe your hub so people who use search engines or browse through HubPages will know what your content is about. Make sure your main keyword is in the description, as well as any others you can fit into one to three sentences. But don't just "keyword stuff"; that won't do you any good. You want your keywords there for the search engines to see but you also want the description to be compelling for human beings to read. It's important to find a balance between the two. If you just don't want to be bothered, there's a check box at the top of the box that when selected will cause the first few lines of your hub to fill this field. That may be fine if you have your keywords within the first sentence and that sentence presents a compelling argument for clicking through to your hub, but if that's not the case, I recommend that you write your own description.
Here's a screenshot of the description I wrote for this hub:
The Summary Text box is just one of the aspects you need to be aware of when managing hub settings. For more information, I strongly suggest that you read GamerGirl's excellent Settings, Summary Text and Groups hub, which gives a quick but thorough overview of each aspect.
STEP 4: Monetize Your Hub
4a. How you make money on HubPages
Now we get down to the good part. It's time to configure your hub to make money. There are four official forms of monetization on HubPages:
- Google AdSense
- Kontera
- Amazon
- eBay
If
you create a hub that's considered commercial -- meaning it has at
least one link to a commercial Web site or blog -- AdSense ads will be
run by default. So you might as well get your share of the revenue by
applying to be an AdSense affiliate!
You can also include links to any affiliate program, which adds another layer of potential revenue. No matter what the program (unless of course it's one of the four above), you get 100 percent of any sales made through that link. See the Vintagerio ad on my Victorian flowers and vintage fruit hub for an example of how I implemented an affiliate program. I created an ad but you don't have to.
4b. Understanding the four official monetization methods
The four official monetization methods are split with HubPages as such: On a random basis, you get the revenue generated from 60 percent of the visitors who come to your hub. This means that 60 percent of the time that someone is on your hub and clicks on an AdSense or Kontera ad, or buys something from eBay or Amazon, you will get 100 percent of that revenue. Some people think that HubPages gives a 60/40 split of every ad click or sale, but that's not the case. The impressions are split, not the revenue.
So if you have to give up 40 percent of the revenue, why should you use HubPages? There are many reasons:
- If you have limited experience, HubPages will allow you to implement up to five forms of monetization easily.
- Hubs are easy to make once you get used to them.
- You don't have to put out any money for hosting.
- Hubs automatically get an initial lift in Google because the HubPages domain is so powerful.
- It's often easier to achieve a high ranking for a hub in Google than it is for a blog or Web page with similar content.
- You have the potential to generate sales for affiliate programs that will benefit you 100 percent.
- Additional traffic comes from
HubPages itself, which is actually search traffic that is exploring the
domain.
- There is the potential for earning revenue from people who sign up under you or who click on other hubber’s ads if they click through from one of your URL trackers.
- My experience is that people will click on AdSense ads or buy from Amazon or eBay more readily through a hub than on a similar blog.
To share in revenue on HubPages, you have to be approved for each affiliate program. You can use the following links for instructions to apply to each:
Once you're approved for whichever programs you want to implement, these tips will help you get the most money from your hub:
AdSense
HubPages places AdSense ads at the top of the page by default. You have no control over that but you wouldn't necessarily want to. The next possible position for AdSense ads you do control: if you position your text capsule properly, the ad block will appear at the top right of the page. See the top of the page for an example of this in action. This positioning gives people who come in from search engines the widest choices of ads to click on and therefore is your best chance to garner AdSense revenue.
To make the ads appear in that position, either have just one text capsule for the entire hub or make sure the first text capsule contains enough text so that an AdSense ad block will fit next to it. This generally means you need to have two to four paragraphs in the first text capsule, but you'll have to experiment with your particular text to get it right. If you save your capsule and there isn't a green or gray box next to it like you see below, add more text:

IMPORTANT: DO NOT click the AdSense ads on your own hubs or blogs, or incorporate ads or other text that encourages people to click on them. Also, don't ask your friends or family to click on your ads. This is called click fraud and it's stealing -- not just from Google, but also from the advertisers who placed the ads. If you're caught, your AdSense account will be banned for life. To better understand the AdSense rules, please read the AdSense Terms and Conditions and this advice written by a Hubber who had her AdSense account banned.
eBay and Amazon
10-12-09 update: I've discovered the folks at eBay can be unscrupulous and unfair, so I'm in the process of removing their capsules from all my hubs. I've included a sample eBay capsule in the right column for your reference though. Even so, I would advise that you use eBay at your own risk.
The eBay and Amazon capsules work similarly, so the strategy is pretty much the same for both. Enter a keyword into the capsule that you think would best describe a product that would fit. (See the sidebar if you need more info about how to use capsules.) For example, in this hub I thought new Hubbers might be confused about search engine optimization, so I entered the keyword "search engine optimization" into an eBay capsule and "search engine optimization for dummies" in an Amazon capsule. The results are the two product displays you see in the right column.
Both capsules automatically fill with products that the respective site's software has chosen as the most appropriate, based on the keyword you entered. You might disagree, however, so you should adjust the keyword until you find a product mix you like. For example, if the products that come up for the keyword "search engine optimization" isn't acceptable, alter the keyword to read "search engines," "search engine marketing" or anything else that will give you a product mix you like. There's also a way to choose individual products, but that's for more advanced users.
The strategy behind choosing products is to get the product mix as close as you can to your content's subject. If possible, you'll also want to choose products that have a certain wow factor. I'll give you an example. I have many vintage art hubs and for a long time I filled eBay and Amazon capsules on those pages with vintage items or books about vintage art. They didn't sell very well. One day it struck me that because I give away free images, people are there because they're interested in clip art. (Yeah, I know. I'm a little slow.) So I started selling electronic vintage clip art and sales picked up. Then when I got into designing and giving away free scrapbook papers and embellishments, I chose capsules filled with cute three-dimensional scrapbook embellishments. Now people are really buying from those hubs. That's because someone who does crafts or scrapbooks can't resist those adorable 3D stickers. I never can when I go into the craft store and apparently I'm not alone.
The bottom line is that everything I tried to sell was relevant to my content but I had to ratchet up the wow factor to really make sales. I think I also have my readers' trust, because I give them a lot of free images. But there are other ways to build trust -- good content being chief among them.
Kontera
Kontera is an interesting money-making option, because it's so unpredictable. In case you've never heard of it, Kontera ads are linked from within the text automatically. I can't point them out in this hub because they move around based on the advertisers at any given time, but if you see underlined text, hover over it and an ad pops up, that's Kontera. My experience is that sometimes the ads are actually relevant to the text and sometimes they're not. But apparently that doesn't stop people from clicking on them.
What makes Kontera so unpredictable is that unlike AdSense, which gives a relatively stable click price based on a keyword, Kontera click prices jump all over the place. According to Kontera support, this is because the ads are aggregated remainders of other advertising programs. I was told by a Kontera support person that publishers should see it as an adjunct, not as a primary advertising method. I guess that's a good way to look at it, so you won't be disappointed on the days when the click prices are terrible. For over a month before writing this hub, my Kontera click prices were very low, then in the last week I made between $6 and $20 per day with just the Kontera ads on my hubs.
Kontera can be applied to all hubs by default in the Affiliate Settings area or in each capsule individually by selecting the Kontera checkbox at the top of the page when you’re in edit mode.
Step 5: Earn Affiliate Income
Although it's related, I didn't incorporate this step into the Monetize Your Hub section because it requires a little concentration. So you may want to hold off on this until you get comfortable with creating hubs. In a nutshell, HubPages give you the opportunity to earn extra revenue by referring authors using trackers. You can earn money in these ways:
- If someone signs up for a HubPages account using your tracker, you get 10 percent of the impressions for the life of their hubs.
- If you refer other people's hubs (combine your tracker with their hub URL), you get 9 percent of the impressions if they have been referred to HubPages before by another author or 12 percent if there is no prior referral involved.
I'll send you to DarkSide once again to learn how to take advantage of HubPages referrals and use HubPages trackers to make money.
Step 6. Get Traffic
There's no one better at teaching people to get visitors to their Web properties than Grizzly, so I'm going to send you to him to learn how to get traffic. I suggest that you take what he writes seriously.
The Keyword Academy's Crash Course listed in the blue Valuable Resources sidebar above is also a great avenue for learning how to use keywords to get traffic.
Best of luck with your efforts to make money writing on HubPages!

Thanks for sharing this.
Keep on Hubbing!
You're welcome, eovery. :-)
This is the best one that I have read and you definitely have a good play with the words.
This has definitely given me insight into how to write good hubs and make some money.
Can I make money writing about dead blues/jazz greats? LOL!! Interesting hub. Love your stuff.
Thanks, Sandra and Dink96!
Dink96, if your keyword research says there's money in dead blues/jazz greats, then there is. There may be money even in live ones. ;-)
Read 2/3rd will come back later. Good information and I have met Grizzly as well. I felt that I was competing with the Google Spiders so I had to take a breather and get back to my 100 hubs in 30 days challenge. You're listed under topics so I know where to find the article. I do remember reading about every article needing an image. I was told for optimization of Google Ads to never put the image at the top though people do like to look at what they are reading about before they read the article. PaulDeeds said that more Google Ads are being used so I will keep the top of the article clear for the additional ads. I'll be back later to complete reading.
Hi, Linda. Thanks for your comment. I agree about not putting the image at the top, unless you're trying to sell Amazon or eBay products or get people to click an affiliate link. You might not have read the part I wrote yet that explains the two different approaches I personally use.
I hope you find this content useful!
great information, thanks
You're welcome, flit. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Wow - that certainly was a long hub. it is 1am in London and I thought that I would look at just one more hubpage before I signed off for the night!!!!!
Glad I read this to the end though. Very helpful info that I will be able to use as I continue to learn how to create money making hubs and niche websites.
Many thanks and goodnight.
You think it was long to read! Writing it was pretty intense. I'm delighted I finally finished it. :-)
Thanks so much for your kind words, Tiptopcat, and I hope this info helps you make lots of money.
Excellent hub and v informative. Bookmarked
Thanks, jayb23! :-)
Excellant article dude. I found this very informative regarding hubpages since Im new to the site. Thanks.
Thanks so much for your comment, jonjack. And for future reference, I'm a dudette, not a dude. ;-)
Great hub. I figured you were a dudette from how you explained the 3D stickers. Now I know how to put a picture next to the text. Much easier than I thought. I'll have to see how you did that blue box resource section.
i will definitely take not one this, it is very informative
Mr. Awesome: Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, guys definitely aren't into the 3d stickers like us girls. :-)
Making a blue text box is easy. Just use a regular text box and select the blue background option, indicated by a small blue box at the top of the capsule. There's also a gray option.
anthonyronnie: Thanks for your comment!
I'm impressed! A must read for a beginner like me.
Thanks for your kind words, efa_09. Good luck on HubPages!
Thanks for all the good information. I've been working on utilizing the right keywords and tags. Your hub makes it easier to understand, with a good rationale as to why it's important.
You're welcome, alekhouse, and thank you for the compliments. I'm glad you find the info useful.
Wow, you take a lot of time to answer to each comment posted on your hub. That is really very nice!
Hi, cym. I really appreciate when people take the time to comment on something I wrote, so I like to acknowledge each one.
So thanks for your comment! :-)
This is a very useful page, which I will come back to later. Have bookmarked it. Thanks.
Thanks, BristolBoy. I'm glad you found the info useful.
I say this is the best hub I've ever read on the subject of how to make money writing on hubpages (I'll give you another keyword plug...;).
What else can I say? You have said it all. I have a hard time trying to nitpick any missing puzzle but you're too perfect and too detailed.
Yan
Hi, Yan. Thanks both for your kind words and for mentioning the keyword make money writing on HubPages again.
Anyone reading these comments: Yan brought up a good point. By including my keyword in his comment, he has effectively added it one more time to this page. That's a nice gift you can give someone. Or if you're struggling to get your keyword into your hub, try answering a comment with your keyword in it, as I have here. Please don't do it if it can't be fit in naturally though. You don't want to look like you're spamming your own comment field!
You're most welcome, WordPlay. Look forward to more *awesome* hubs from you.
Yan
Thanks again, Yan! ::blush::
good stuff to read and learn.
Thanks, Rudra!
nice information, thanks for share.
You're welcome, prasetio30. I hope the info helps you.
Thank you WordPlay. Thanks for sharing. Useful info for me.
Great Job.
very useful information. Something I will come back to again and again, in my learning process...
Great information. I really needed some advice on the use of tags and you've explained that well. Thanks.
Very detailed explanation. Great information.
Thanks to everyone who left comments overnight. I appreciate your kind words!
hey its really superb!.. i think u hav spent lot of time on researching about this?..
Thanks, deepakreddyy. Actually, I've spent more time doing than researching. That's the best way to learn.
Excellent advice but what I would really like to know is how much people make on Hubpages from Adsense ? Any ideas?
That's dependent on the niche and the number of hubs. But maybe this post by Court Tuttle will give you an idea: http://thekeywordacademy.com/make-money-with-hubpa
But as they say in car ads, though, your mileage may vary.
Do I qualify for FOG status to? Where do I get the badge? I think that a lot of new people on hubpages at the moment seem confused - they want more fans, a better author score, a pretty medal - they would be better served by reading this hub and learning kw research!
Great hub!
Yes, Lissie, I'll definitely list you as an FoG! LOL You're probably one of the original FoGs.
Thanks for your kind words. :-)
woah, tons of information, thanks buddy! I never know so many stuff involved in making money writing.
You're welcome, Wallpaper Queen.
Awesome Information! You Rock!
Thank you this really helps.
Nice hub with plenty of good information on how to make money with hubpages, thank you
I have also bookmarked your hub. I am new to Hubpages and still trying to learn how to increase traffic and possibly earn revenue in the future.
Thanks to all of you who commented recently! It makes me happy to know this info has helped you.
This kind of info doens't just apply to hubpages, but to blogging in general. You should consider publishing this as a how to make money writing online article.
Being new to HubPages I've done alot of reading and hub-hopping,(trying to learn my way around a bit) I think your 'How to Make Money Writing on HubPages' is the best explanation for a newcomer I've come across yet! The Valuable Resources are truly inspirational!!! Many thanks for the work you've done here
Gee, you could have saved me a lot of time if you'd written this Hub two years ago (when I started)! Excellent Hub, summarising all the things I've learned about making money with HubPages since then. Thanks!
Thanks so much to all of you! I'm overwhelmed with the response to this hub. I wanted to help people cut down the HubPages learning curve and if I've done that, I'm truly glad.
And thanks again to those who use keywords in their comments. :-)
A hub of pure genius and the first hub I have bookmarked, this is going to help me revamp my older hubs to become earners. Smart lil thing, aren't ya ; )
Excellent hub, Wordplay and extremely informative and helpful. I read it twice already, but I'm going to reread and study it further. Thanks for such a great hub.
Well explained and easy to understand...good one...
Thanks, badcompany99, D Cortez and nms.
I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised by what will happen when you optimize your old hubs, badcompany99. It's like finding buried treasure.
New to hub pages so thanks for the advice. Just a question on the article marketing campaign - are you suggesting to link back to your hub from within the articles or from the author box?
Hi, Neil. It depends on where you're doing the article marketing. If you use a service that posts to article directories, you'll have to use the author box because they require it. If you use a service that posts to blogs and Web sites, you should link from within the article text. It's generally preferable to have in-text links rather than author box links, because in-text links look more natural to search engines. You can still get a lot of value from author box links though. I'm not saying they shouldn't be used; only that IMHO in-text links are preferable.
Wow jus wow, splendid i really wanted some one to tell me in detail about the keyword tool and oh boy have you done a gr8 job. Love the detail and indepth view towards the subject. Consider another new fan in your huge fan base right away.
Well explained and easy to understand excellent hub
Thanks so much for the kind words, charanjeet and Lgali. :-)
This has really been helpful,..wow. I too am just begining so this was right on time for me,...LOL
Thanks, Army Infantry Mom. I'm glad you find the info helpful. Good luck on HubPages!
Wow! You put a lot of efort into this hub. Good luck!
Thanks, custodio. Yes I did put a lot of effort into this one. In fact, I'm still a little amazed that I finished it.
nice hub, i can see the hard work.
Thank you so much, I am a beginner and bookmarked your hub, but learned so much!
Thanks, icewave5 and Ladybird33. :-)
Great Hub, full of awesome tips and advice. I put up a similar hub on Making money with Twitter, but haven't had this much attention yet, lol.
Thanks, employeralliance. I'm going to check out your Twitter hub. I've been resisting Twitter but I've finally decided I need to get on the bandwagon.
Very helpful hub. I made a few tweaks on my hubs as a result. I appreciate the recommendation of a summary capsule, it makes a lot of sense and something I have not been doing. Excellent information that I've bookmarked. Thank you.
Thanks WordPlay. You've given me the courage to write about "My wife's possessed car". It's my first hub & may not make any money, but you have my heading in the right direction.
This is the best one that I have read. thanks for it. hope you will write more on it.
Thanks, wordscribe41, ttagpine and MOBMANI. I'm glad you found the info helpful.
To ttagpine: I read your first hub and it was great. I encourage you to write some more! Once you get used to the writing process, incorporate some keywords and do some promotion as I've described. If you keep doing that, over time your hubs will make money.
Whoooa!! This is one serious hub, very easy to follow, and easy to understand. This is one of the best hubs I have read regarding making money writing. Thank you for all your hard work you put into writing this hub.
Thanks, adrienne2, both for your kind words and for putting my keywords into your comment! :-)
LOL you are welcome!
Hi Wordplay, I've boomarked this hub as I want to really understand more on how to make more money by writing on hubpages. :-) There are things I already know and other things I am happy to know. I will read this hub over and over again untiI get it right. Thanks for writing this hub.
Thanks, ripplemaker. I appreciate the comment and the keywords. :-)
Excellent hub! I also follow Griz's directions and find it confusing at times but I think you must have figured it all out.
Now I know how to make some money through hubpages. Thank you moooolah much for the brilliant tips!
Hi Cdejarnatt: Griz is completely brilliant at what he does, which results in him sometime delivering so much info at once that it blows a few circuits. The key is to keep chipping away at it. Any bits of his advice that you can implement will move you forward. Don't worry if you can't do all of it at once. Truthfully, if you can master keyword research and linking, you'll have most of what you need. The rest is great but not as important as those first two things (in my humble opinion, anyway).
Hi MadCowWritings: Thanks for your comment. I wish you great success making money with hubs!
So very helpful, bookmarking this one thanks WordPlay!
Thanks for leaving a comment, jennshon4! I'm glad you found the info helpful.
Very useful hub
thank you
wow this is great! All the information i have been wanting and I could understand it!!!!! yay! Thanks
I am new to blogs, hubs, tweets and all the rest, but I wish to integrate myself into cyberspace communities and, if I'm lucky, make a dollar or two. I have bookmarked your page and will refer to it frequently as I learn and grow. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Jason and Mike. Thanks to you, too, My Inner Jew. You get the prize for the day's best user name. ;-)
Best of luck to all of you on HubPages. I hope you make a lot of money with your hubs.
I loved the way you explained it! Thanks.
Thank you WordPlay, I am such a computer idiot. I bookmarked your hub to refer to it time and time again. I also think that I should print it out to carry around with me. Honestly most of the things you wrote about sounded like a foreign language, that's why I need to read it time and time again. All this talk about links and things makes my head swim, that's why I will have to read it over and over again. I've only written two hubs, so that process is new, but now trying to get use to making money with them is even more novel.
Thanks, CelinaMac. There's no higher praise for a writer!
Don't worry, fastfreta. I had a similar reaction when I started. Just be patient with yourself, take baby steps and don't be put off by feeling confused. Just push through it and it will all become second nature after a while. Best of luck! :-)
Very detailed and informative hub WordPlay. Thanks.
Thanks, Kulsum! :-)
I think this must be one of the most useful articles i've ever come across. Most of the other articles i came across were so vague, monotonous and uninteresting compared to this. Thank You.
You're welcome, rachitha. I really appreciate your kind words. :-)
Great hub. Thanks for the tips on using capsules such as the news capsule. Lots of detailed information in one place, and lots of graphics as well made it easy to follow along.
You're welcome, Ms._Info. I'm so glad you found the info helpful and easy to follow. :-)
This is the best hub I have reviewed. I have bookmarked your page and have already referred to it several times. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us!
Excellent Hub thanks for all these great tips, again thank you kindly.
You're welcome, Barb and robbwindow. :-)
Great hub, thanks for sharing this information.
Great information, so much I need to do, thank you, I've bookmarked this for future reference.
To bookmarked. you are good
Thanks for your tips. Great job!
Thanks so much, annvans, Millifan, toutat and Michael. You're all too kind! I hope you guys make lots of money on HubPages.
Thank you so much for the very informative and helpful hub. I'm a new Hubber and I appreciate all the advice and tips.
Thanks for the solid information, I really learned a lot that I didn't know. Just an all around excellent hub!
lots of info thanks im new!
Thanks for your kind words, westernangel, projectbuilder and tmojnks!
The best make money writing hub page that i read...!. Thank you very much for the valuable information. Bookmarked for future reference.
Nice topic
just joined and a bit lost but that has helped me with most of the basic stuff thanks
Like you say, with all other things being prepared right, it's all in the backlinks and properly worded anchor text.
Even after blogging for a living online for years, I still find myself getting that temptation to write content, while not spending enough time on what's important: building backlinks.
Great hub!
WOW!
Thanks.
John Milton Wesley
Wow! This is one Fantabulous hub! I read it all and it was well worth it. We autually think a lot alike - and you'll find that out if you ever read any of my hubs. And I surely agree, the use of good solid keywords in a hub can definitely boost earnings. I like the Google adwords keyword tool and I use a few as well in combination that. Somehow I always forget to click that 'exact match' so Thanks for reminding me. Oh yeah speaking of exact match, when you searching at a search engine it's good to put quotes around the keyword, otherwise it will just give you a broad match which is not really you true competition. Thanks again for this long informative hub and I'll definitely be back again.
By the way here's a hub that I wrote for our fellow hubbers as well concerning traffic building, seems like it goes well with your hub:)
http://hubpages.com/hub/increased-web-traffic-free
Thanks to all of you who commented recently!
MakingBacon: I know what you mean about wanting to develop content instead of working on backlinks. Since I make most of my money on HubPages, I have to make time to do both. If I were just using blogs, I wouldn't have to create as much content. But I find the income diversification that comes from having multiple hubs is too hard to resist! Some yield more AdSense revenue, some more Amazon or eBay sales or Kontera clicks. So it's hard to resist creating as many as I can.
multimastery: You're right; that hub is a good adjunct to this one. I recommend that people read it. And using quotes around a search term is a good idea. It saves time.
very informative thanks
You're welcome, hampak!
WOW! Thankyou, being a newbie I'm glad you put it in layman's terms for all of us to have a better understanding of how things work.
link exchanges and Kontera are my next " adventures" punn intended!
Hi KStyle. I'm glad you found this info helpful. :-)
thanks for the tips! i'm new here and was looking for some simple to understand tips;o) you got yourself a new fan!
I couldn't sleep and I got up to read Grizzly's blog and came across this when I first signed into Hubpages. I do appreciate his information and i can see you've learned from him due to the length of the Hub. Well written information. I'll come back to read it. I've not used Kontera at all. Can Kontera and Adsense be used on the same Hub?
I also wasn;t aware you could use affiliate programs with your Hubs.
I have devoured this article, being a newbie it is helping tremendously. It should be rated a 125 at least, AAAA++++ and as a retired teacher I didn't give out too many of those.
Thanks, JaniesWorld!
Don: You can definitely use Kontera and AdSense together and I recommend that you do as soon as you get a decent amount of traffic to your hubs. As far as affiliate programs go, as long as you have a URL that has your affiliate code in it, you can use it on HubPages. I use a graphic ad because my affiliate program is for a vintage art site subscription and potential customers for that site respond to images. But you can also incorporate affiliate URLs into your copy.
marlenebr: You made my morning. I got an AAAA++++ from the teacher! Thanks for your kind words. I'm always happy to read that people find this info helpful. :-)
Excellent, excellent resource!! The best I have read so far on making money with hubpages...Well written!
Thanks, Nancy! :-)
This is one of the best hubs I've read on making money writing hubs! Excellent article! Thank you.
Thanks, seamist! I hope it helps you make money. :-)
Wow im new to hubpages and I must say I learned alot thank you very much Im your fan
Thanks, lesterd2009. I hope you experience great success on HubPages.
I bookmarked this hub .............simply interesting and useful info...........
Thanks, Kmadhav. I'm glad you found the info useful.
thanks so much for showing me ( and all the others) how to do things, I am on a super low income, and so any exrta income I can get, would be of a huge benefit, So thank you for helping a person in need.
You're welcome, Watch Tower. I wish you the best of luck making money on HubPages!
I was just reading Court's 100 hubs in 30 day challenge and stumbled across your comment which led me here. Just wanted to say thanks for the time and effort that went into compiling this. i have taken notes and will be referring to them as I attempt to complete my own 30 day challenge!
Thanks for the kind words, DisneyFan09! I hope you make a lot of money with your hubs. :-)
Thanks so much for this info. I'm still figuring it all out and will for sure be bookmarking this page!
You're welcome, Laura. :-)
Thanks for sharing...
To guide me..hahaha!
book marked
Great Hub! I just forwarded this hub to a newly joined referral.
Thank you very much..this is really a great help for a beginner like me... :)
I can now say I Make Money Writing on HubPages. OK, it's only 4 cents so far, but that's a beginning.
great hub! and information is very useful!! thanks!
I am new to HubPgaes and your article has lots of useful information. I have one hub up and all I have is Google AdSense on it but I have not made one penny! Am I doing something wrong?
Mixed Media: Have you done keyword analysis for the hub and gotten links to it based on those keywords? If not, that's the problem. If you've done the keyword analysis/linking and you're still not making any money, it could be that you just have to wait longer. (It takes a while for the links to "register" with Google, Yahoo and the other engines.) It also could be that you've chosen keywords that require *many* links and you could have a long haul ahead of you. I would advise going through my hub again and making sure you've done everything I've mentioned.
Addendum: I just went to your hub and found the reason you're not making any money. You chose one of the most competitive keywords out there, so you're competing with people who have more experience and a *lot* more links. My advice would be to do some new hubs based on less competitive keywords.
No, I have not done keyword analysis for the hub or links to it. Thank you for your help.
Mixed Media: Try to find a less competitive keyword to use for your existing hub. If you can't, I would suggest moving on from it and investing your time doing keyword analysis and then creating more hubs. Also, you might want to invest in The Keyword Academy. They can help you if you're serious about making money writing.
Great hub! Thanks for all the great info, now I've got to get to work. I've bookmarked this hub.
LRobbins @ You bring up a good point: it is a lot of work! But you'll find it's worth it when the money comes in month after month. :-)
Awesome hub..
Thank alot!
Great information and well-explained
nice info.thanks
Met you on Twitter. Pretty cool hub. Hope you will read a few of mine. Best wishes for your success. Feel free to stay in touch. I am qlcoach on Twitter.
Hi. I am new to hub pages so I appreciate all the help that I can get especially about how to make money on a hub. I am going to bookmark this page for further reference. thanks,
Very thorough hub! Awesome. We've all been there making hubs that do not make anything and learned. Thanks for the advice. Good luck!
Great hub on how to make money with no money.
Wordplay, this is extraordinary! It must've taken a ton of hours, not to mention a lot of hard work. Bravo!
How to make Money Writing on Hubpages is a goal most of us have. I have been writing hubs and keeping my overall score in the 90's but it looks like a long time off before I receive my first adsense check. I always put my image at the top...an apparent "no-no." Intend to study this hub and learn from your freely offered advice. Thank you so much!
This is some great advice. Thanks alot. :)
I just thought I should give you a friendly heads up that I make a reference to your *awesome* hub in one of my post - http://thoushallblog.com/how-to-earn-money-at-home for the benefits of those who need it most.
Yan
Thanks so much for the mention! I like your article. I think it will really help people. :-)
This is the greatest hub I have ever seen on hub pages. You have shared your experience in "Making Money Writing" with all of us. Your writing is neet and clear. I got lot of information and I bookmarked this hub. Thanks Wordplay.
Thanks, laswi. I appreciate your kind words and that you used my keywords. :-)
this is a nice article, totally and fully explaination of everything. thank you very very much.
excellent and nice tips laswi
Im a newbie to hubpages so this is definately very very infromational and helpful..Thank you!
This is amazing...the comments for the article "how to make money writing on hubpages" are longer than the article itself, how often do you see that? Great advice for the beginner and the experienced alike, I just wish I could go back and optemize my hubs...lol...I guess I could make them longer for a better score though. After reading this article I am seriously thinking about adding Kontera and Ebay, but I heard that hp is no longer going to have ebay as an affiliate, have you heard anything about this? Thanks for the terrific work and keep it up.
Thanks for your comment, outdoorguy. No, I hadn't heard that HubPages was going to get rid of eBay. But when I read your comment I checked the forums and found this post by Paul Deeds: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/18361. Apparently there was some talk of removing eBay but that has been resolved.
Thanks for your comment, outdoorguy38!
There was a temporary problem with eBay but that has now been resolved, according to a forum post by Paul Deeds: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/18361#post279795.
Thankyou for looking into that Wordplay, looks like I better hurry to see if I can get approved. Keep up the great work.
You're welcome. I find eBay is a nice money-maker during the holidays, so I would definitely advise getting approved quickly.
Good luck! :-)
this is a keeper
this is really a wonderful hub....
very informative .... very nicely explained ....
keep the good work up .... god bless you .....
Very good - Grizzly has FANTASTIC advice! Very good writeup on applying these ideas to Hubpages.
Avery
Great hub and very informative. Im wanting to start making money off of this so thanks for the info!
WOW ! I have learn so much. I've been wodering what I've been doing wrong & you have answered most of my questions. Even more amazing, I learn even more reading the comments down here at the bottom. I've also decided that the twitter adder has just got to be a great idea, because after keyword research, traffic is the key.
Thanks for your comment, Paul.
I like Tweet Adder because it allows targeting of certain keywords. The key for me has been to do one keyword group at a time and send a benefit-oriented direct message once someone follows me. By benefit-oriented, I mean I point out that I give away free clip art and scrapbook images and invite the recipient to help themselves. That method has produced the most traffic for me.
Also, don't be surprised if it takes a little while to build traffic with Tweet Adder. You shouldn't add too many followers a day (Twitter allows 1,000 but I keep it under 300) and not everyone you add will follow you back. But if you're patient with it, Tweet Adder will give you targeted traffic, which is the key.
The info was more than useful!!
Actually its excellent writing skills you got and I must compliment you for that too..
COMPLIMENTS!!!
Well written and informative. I've been doing this kind of thing for years but handn't come across TweetAdder before, so something else to make life easier. Ta.
Wow! A Hubscore of 92 for that! That's a 100 point hub if I ever saw one. Good Work!
Bookmarked and this is really really awesome hub! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Acquilles, Win2Win, James and kotoh. :-)
James, this hub was scored at 100 when it first launched but it has bounced around and gone as low as 85 since then. That's why you can't pay attention too much to HubScores. As long as you meet the mandatory score of 74 to have your links followed, that's really all that matters!
I had read this several months ago when I was starting out and found it very informative for a beginner such as myself. I just referred back to it via Griz, printed it out, and reread it again. Learned something again that I had not been doing. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing what you know.
How do you put links to your other Web properties? Maybe it's a dumb question but I don't know how to put a link to another website. Exemple: a world is underlined and when you click on it, it is linked to another website.
Thank you very much for helping me
wow, you put a lot of work into this, great job! I was going to do something like this a while back, and kinda started... but never finished. Another great hub worth bookmarking. I can imagine how long this took as I know some of my longer hubs took me a little while to do! I actually found one of your hubs a while back (might have even been this one) and I swore it was Court in disguise because of the "if you've found this info useful...please link back with k/w..." box or blurb, but then I looked at the hubs and figured he couldn't possibly write that much about scrapbooking! :-)
I don't know if anyone else pointed it out because I didn't read through all the comments, but your RSS feed at the end to your other hubs isn't working... I did a hub a while back on using HubPages RSS feeds that might help you out.
And thank you, Tesa, for your kind words. It makes me happy to know that this info helped you. :-)
David, linking used to drive me nuts, too, so I've included instructions above for making links that open on the same page and in a new window. See section 5e. "How to create a link."
Thanks, Belief713, for comparing me to Court and for catching the RSS feed. You can tell Court and I apart because he makes a lot more money than I do (at least for now), and as far as I know, he isn't into scrapbooking. ;-) As for the RSS feed, I actually mentioned that in this hub. Sometimes the HubPages RSS feeds work and sometimes they don't, so I left the capsule there in case it decides to resurrect itself at some point.
LOL, I know what you mean about Court making a lot more, but at least you're giving it a shot! Well, I just gave you a link from one of my hubs :-)
Yes, I noticed that about the RSS feed in the Hub that's why I pointed out that it's not still working. But it's been about, what... 3 months since you published this? It should be working... the only time I've noticed they don't work is when I've done the link wrong so you might be doing the link wrong. It took me a little tweaking and experimenting to figure them out...but you can do a lot with them once you do!
Happy hubbing ;-)
Hi again, Belief713. Thanks so much for the link! It's much appreciated.
I use the exact same RSS link for every hub; I keep it in a text file to ensure it never changes. On some hubs it works when I preview it in edit mode but then craps out when the hub is either saved or published. On others it works perfectly from minute one and stays that way.
I wrote to support about this a long time ago and they said they didn't know why that was happening. I never followed up but I should because it's a great way to get internal links.
Oh well, at least it's working on a bunch of my hubs. That's the advantage of being prolific. :-)
Try this one if you want it to show your HOT hubs tagged with HUBPAGES: http://hubpages.com/author/wordplay/hubpages/hot/?
Thanks again, belief713.
I just tried the address you gave me and it produced an error. Ironically, when I clicked out without saving and the capsule reverted back to the old RSS address, I saw the feed just fine in edit mode. But as you can see, when I published it -- poof, gone. Annoying!
I forgot to add this, belief713: I appreciate your taking the time to dig up an alternate RSS address. It's certainly not your fault it didn't work! :-)
Hey there Word Play - Thanks for the awesome information! I am going to refer back to this hub again and again, I'm sure!
Thank you!
This is a very thorough and indepth look into making a hubpage and hopefully making some money. Very nicely done.
Thanks, PpcJen and Ashley Joy! I appreciate your comments.
excellent information..
took some time to read it
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm new to hub pages. I love to write but am definitely not "optimizing" as you described it. I've been checking my scores and they are low, so I keep saying how will I ever get traffic being so new...I'm going to try your tips and do some editing. I feel like I have a lot of hubs inside me and I can't wait to start writing. Thanks again for this valuable info.
Thanks, creativeMind and deerinheadlights.
creativeMind, I'll bet this did take a long time to read. It certainly took a long time to write!
deerinheadlights, I'm glad you found out about optimization early in the game. You won't have to tweak a lot of existing hubs, which is what I had to do. Best of luck.
Thanks so much for all your great advice I will put it to effect immediately...you have another fan.
Thanks, Scott. :-)
Just discovered this hub and think it is really great!
Thanks, funwithtrains. I hope you find the info useful.
Just followed Grizzly's link to see what you're up to here. Great hub! I think anyone who is new to Hubpages would get a lot out of this if they followed it as you've written. Also, your lay-out is great. Very readable.
Thanks so much, embitca. Nice to meet another friend of Griz.
Geez - too bad - such a great post and hardly any comments!
:-)
Carla - got your last comment(unpublished)and will email you as soon as I have a minute. Been out all day but wanted you to know I got it.
Great Hub with good info...
Thanks!!
Thanks for the heads-up, Griz.
And thanks to you, too, USAPoolToy, for your kind words.
I took a visit again 2 chek the linking back section..
bookmarked your hub..
Thanks, Acquilles. :-)
Excellent info. Thanks
Thanks for stopping by, guitarra bueno.
Not only beginners must read this, but everyone.
Thanks so much, Luis.
Thanks for share. it give me spirit to write more great content on hubpages. I like hub[ages very much.
Wow what a great hub with full of information! Great job!
i want to make money online. i will try it.
@prasetio30 and Louidam1: I'm glad you found this hub helpful. I appreciate your kind words.
@salee: Good luck on HubPages!
If this is as effective as its informative what more do we need? It had to be bookmarked. I´ll be on the page again and again. Thanks for sharing.
Great hub thanks from a noob.
The best hub I have read so far on how to make money on hubpages. I am new and I was having a hard time on how to drive traffic to my hubs. You have made it much clearer. It is a lot of info though. I am half way through it. I am going to implement some of your suggestions so far and then I will read some more. Thanks a bunch. I am definitely bookmarking this.
Very informative article, I plan to start writing here at HubPages. Making money I guess is easier said than done and I know it takes a lot of work. I'll be playing around, it takes time to get used to a new place; hope I could find a manual in using HubPages the easy way (lol). Again thanks!
thank you very very much
@wordbluesunlimited: You're welcome. You bring up a good point when you ask "what more do we need?" (although I know you meant it as a compliment). There are all kinds of subtleties that people will discover as they travel along the HubPages trail. I invite people to share them in these comments so everyone can learn from them.
@Helen: You're welcome, although I hate to see people refer to themselves as "noobs." Just my own personal bugaboo, but I find that term so unkind. Some high mucky-muck Internet marketers starting calling people that derisively and now it's become universal. I prefer to think of you and others who are just learning as people brave enough to try something new. :-)
@lelanew55: Yes, it is a lot to take in! You're definitely right about that. Do it one step at a time and you'll get there eventually.
@Geronimo: Welcome to HubPages. Have fun and good luck!
Very informative, very helpful Thanks a lot for sharing !
I completely neglected the "Summary Text" for my Hub pages!!! Thanks for writing about this.
You covered a great deal of info, which I know for fact many people will benefit from.
Add my thanks for some great info...
Great advice. Your hub has really helped me in writing my own hubs. Thank you.
I'm SO excited! I read this hub, took copious notes, and when I wrote my first (and,so far, only) Hub I tried to follow all your good advice. Then, because I wanted to get a picture to put on the Hub, I Googled "Honda Civic Hybrid". I couldn't believe my eyes..." The Hub I wrote is the second from the top on the first page! This has never ever happened to me before! I owe it all to you and this great Hub. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thanks for your comments, crayonbrains, Legitimate Work From Home Jobs, Hmrjmr1 and marshall92!
@Legitimate Work From Home Jobs: It's important to also have junky anchor text, such as your name, URL, "this site," "click here," etc. So you might want to use just your name in a comment in community settings and save the perfect anchor text for within the text of hubs, blog posts and other locations where it won't be perceived as spam. That will increase your comments' chance of acceptance and also give you link diversity that Google likes to see. :-)
That's so exciting, uakoko! Congratulations. I remember the first time I saw one of my pages on the first page of Google; I almost fell off my chair. :-) A heads-up: Don't be surprised if the hub falls from the first page at some point. Google gives hubs with good SEO (and even some without it) a lift at first because of the power of the HubPages domain. If there's a lot of competition for a keyword, the listing may drop down until you get some links for the page. If that happens, just keep link-building until it climbs up to the top again. If it got there once, it can do it again.
BTW, because there are so many comments on this hub, I'm grouping their acceptance and my responses. So if you leave a comment and it doesn't appear right away, it will eventually. I definitely appreciate every comment, so the delay is just a practical move on my part.
This is an awesome hub! I'm taking this to heart when I start with my next few hubs!
Great job dear!!!!
It was a long read from top to bottom I do read all the comments, as I think these can also teach you a lot) but I am glad I made it to the end.
I have recently stepped in blogging and now I am thinking to make some money :) I will definitely give Hubpages a try. You know I just today thought to understand this thing called search engine optimization and luckily fell at Griz's blog...You guyz are doing great....making it so easy..
I hope I would be able to implement your ideas, and yeah I really liked that you do reply to each and every commenter..... I am not running a blog of the related niche, else I would have put your link there...but just for a little payback for this great artile...I would sign up under you.. Now you had better pray for my success... ;)
Thanks so much for your comments, Nanashi and Muhammad, and best of luck.
Muhammad, I will be hoping for your success. You deserve it after getting through the entire hub and all the comments! Thanks also for signing up under me. :-)

Great info indeed. Very clear too. Very much appreciated. May I ask a question? I would like to know if I refer someone to hub pages, 10% of the adsense ads on that new hubber's hubpages will carry my code you said, is it irrespective of the number of hubs he writes? This applies only to adsense or will it apply to amazon ads as well?
Thank you very much indeed for reading this question, and thanks in advance for answering.
Hi, Mack. Your code will be displayed 10% of the time on *all* hubs created by the people who sign up under you, regardless of the number. The 10% applies to Google, Kontera, eBay and Amazon, so it's worth your time to implement all of them.
Thank you for all the information shared!
Very helpful
Great hub filled with great advice. I am new to hubposts and will be testing out what has been written in this hub. From what I have read else where, the information here seems to be consistent.
Excellent Hub! Knew a bit but learnt a lot more. I had always thought that Squidoo was the way to go, but this makes me see things differently.
Do you think it may be a good idea to build a quick Squidoo Lens and link to your money making Hub from it?
With regard to the problems with the RSS feeds for Author Hub Pages, would it be a good idea to take the URL and make your own feed with say RSSBot which I use to submit RSS Feeds and to Ping them.
It also has the ability to create a feed from an URL. RSSbot is dirt cheap and is a brilliant tool - it's one of Big Mike's BOTS, quite often they are for sale for around $7 to $12, especially if he has been on a bender that weekend.
hey worldplay howmuch we get income from adsense if we do partnership with hubpages ? and do we have to share now or google give them directly ?
Thanks, biahaas and Rubes.
Great suggestions, John! Thanks. I'll go and see if Mike has been on a bender. ;-)
jits, I assume you're asking what percentage you'll get of the AdSense revenue if you partner with HubPages. Please see 4b in this hub for a detailed explanation of this.
As for how you're paid, your AdSense revenue goes directly into your Google account and the HubPages share goes directly into theirs. You never even see how much HubPages makes.

You are my Guru, well written Hub, regards from Peru
Thanks, wangshanying, nms and incastresures. :-)
@nms, it's funny that you mention that the hub is complete. I actually have a few more things I'm going to add when I get time!

I just signed up an account with Hubpages yesterday. I'm glad I found this hubpage of yours. Very impressive! You must have taken a lot of time and effort in completing it.
Good job!
I have bookmarked it and will be looking out for your other hubpages too!
Thanks.
Thanks, Song-Bird, cledin, ahmad_hania and greatersuccess101!

This is one of the most (if not the most) informative and through hub I've ever read on making money on Hubpages. I'm bookmarking this hub and becoming your fan! Thank you so much, WordPlay. I enjoyed reading this and must employ your advice. One million hits to me is like walking barefooted to the southern tip of Chile! I wonder how many hits you average a day? Thank you so much!
Looks like a GREAT hub with LOTS of good info. I printed it out to read carefully later. Thanks!
Thnx man. Appreciate this post. Some things I knew already, but I never heard of Grizzly's site. So his info plus the other info in your post are gonna make me a succesfull blogger! ;) thnx!

Thanks for all the great tips you put here! This has answered alot of questions I had about making money on Hub Pages. I wish you success here. :)
Thanks dohn121, PWalker281, Daan_vdB, angelfrmcanada!
To answer your question, dohn121, right now I'm getting a little under 6,000 hits per day. But you can't go by that, because many of my hubs are seasonal. That number should be much higher by the end of the month, because I have a lot of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas hubs. If all my hubs were of interest year-round, the number of daily hits would be different. I chose to focus on holidays, because they can be lucrative. So I built those hubs first and am now in the process of building more with year-round appeal.

Hello Wordplay
Wow! As a newbie to hubpages, your beautifully written article "Make Money Writing" is the very best how to I have read so far. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Awesome job. I'm off to rework some of my hubs to incorporate your suggestions.
On another note 1 million hits is an amazing achievement. Well done. I'm looking forward to my first 500! Then......
Hi Wordplay,
Thanks for the awesome information. I'm just starting out on HubPages, after learning about it from Squidoo actually, so this definitely comes in handy.
Just curious, and you don't need to tell me, but approximately how much can you earn on hub pages? How much has the highest earner earned in one month, for example?
Thanks for your time. Best of luck to you!
thanks ever so much for this useful information !I love the way you broke it down and described each step for a layman like me.I am a 'if I don't know how or what I will research it to death till I do' kind of person .And your hub gave it to me all in one page!TY very much,I enjoyed the reading (and taking notes )
Thanks, travelespresso, Pat and Ivorytrain!
@Pat: I don't know how much the highest earner has earned but I do know there's potential to earn as much as you want. It depends entirely on how hard you're willing to work and whether the subjects you write about are well chosen. Time is also a factor. This isn't a get-rich-quick scheme, although that doesn't mean you can't earn money right away if you know what you're doing.
@ Ivorytrain I'm an 'if I don't know how or what I will research it to death till I do' person too. And because I've written Web instructions for my consulting business, I felt this subject was crying out for a good tutorial. It took me years to learn this stuff, so I wanted to help others cut to the chase.

I can't even begin to tell you how this hub has helped me. Not just for Hub pages...but for my blog and my shop on Etsy. They started all this SEO and keyword stuff. I have tried and tried and TRIED to understand it all. I have had 2 brain surgeries and I think the Doctor took out something I need lol. I can't seem to grasp it. Until now. I just printed this out. I am going to try to utilize this info on my shops pages. If you don't mind...since you seem to be a Master at this...could you take a look at my shop and tell me what I am doing wrong? I am working on my listings one by one. So they aren't ALL fixed yet. But the announcement and stuff has been. The link is http://BeadedIndulgences.etsy.com Typically I probably wouldn't care how I had my keywords and meta keywords and H1 and blahh blahhh blahh....but now that I have had the brain surgeries and the surgeons and doctors all have told me I can never work again....we really need the money.(I worked in the medical field...I used to be very intelligent lol...made amazing money) So I have taught myself to make everything on that site. I am trying to teach myself a few more things...like this...to help the site.
They are getting ready to send me to UC Davis in the next month. I would love to have my shop in prime condition. I would appreciate any feedback from you if you do have the time to just take a look at it. I know I need to change the banner...but I can't remember how I did that. Another after effect...short term memory loss....lol.
Thank you for this amazing HUB....I am off to read your others now!!
Christine
p.s. I think the reason I understand yours so well is the way you have it written...thank you again!
Hi Christine. I'll send you an e-mail. :-)
Excellent hub. Must of took you forever to write it. Great information thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for the advice and tips...I will read this whole article one day when I have time lol. It's awesome though!
Really very nice and informative article. Thank you lot.
Thanks a lot for responding to my question. Good luck to you too!
Thanks, Jason, Ebower and Chandan! And you're welcome, Mack. Glad I could help.

This is the Third hub I've read on this subject, and this was by far the most comprehensive, thank you...
I'm Still confused about a few things, being so new, I guess: Do I understand it...that if you sign up with Adsense directly, that's one split, but if you sign up thru HP, HP gets a split of my split? I got confused between the terms of HP splitting "impressions" and payment of a commission on a click, I guess (Either that or I'm just totally and helplessly confused at this point!)
Perhaps, I also missed this, too. How did the "related hubs" appear on the right of your Hub? Are those considered direct links done by HP, or did you specifically select to put them there?
Again, thanx for the great amount of time you certainly put in to impart this info on those of us just starting out.
Joanne
Hi Joanne. If you sign up for AdSense and use it anywhere including HubPages, you will be splitting the ad revenue with Google. But just ignore that, because it's unimportant. All you need to to worry about is your share, which is what is shown when you look at your AdSense account.
If you use AdSense on HubPages, Google will get the same share as if you were using it anywhere else and HubPages will get ALL the AdSense revenue from 40% of the people who visit your hubs. Those visits are called impressions.
For example, if 100 people visit one of your hubs (100 impressions), 40 of them (40%) will be on the page when the HubPages AdSense code is in effect and 60 (60%) will be on the page when your AdSense code is in effect. If any of those 40 people click an AdSense ad, 100% of the revenue from that ad will be credited to HubPages. If any of those 60 people click an ad while your code is in effect, you will get 100% of that revenue.
As for the related hubs, you have no control over them. HubPages chooses those.
I hope that helps.
Many thanks, WordPlay. Your writing is so natural and easy. You are obviously in the right field. Best of luck, Jess
Thanks for the tips...hopefully I will get more traffic now :)
This post is very helpful. I am so interested in making money online and I discovered Hubpages as a new source.

I know you must have heard enough of this but i just have to say it all the same,"thank you"-it is a great hub
I can never hear "thank you" too much! Thanks for saying it. :-)
Good information! It is very helpful!
I just started here on hubpages just a few days ago, so coming across this will hopefully help. You have really simplified the process and answered many of the questions I have been asking myself. I am a college student looking for a way to make a little cash on the side. Someone mentioned this website to me so I decided to jump on board. From what I've heard from most people, it takes several months until you really start making much of anything. Is there anything I can do personally to speed up this process? For an example, write more hubs or something along that line?
Thanks, TonyHubb!
@FrFtBll Fnz: Building more hubs will definitely help you earn faster, because any small amounts you initially earn from each will be multiplied. But there's a caveat. You have to do the keyword research first to make sure you're going after terms that will make you money. If you don't you'll be wasting your time. If you need help understanding keywords, visit The Keyword Academy and/or Grizzly links above.

Best of luck, floating mind! Be sure to pay attention to the end part about linking and visit Grizzly's site. It will make a world of difference in your earnings.
