How to fix your computer for free?

This is a question I get quite a bit – How can I fix my computer for free? Let’s face it IT guys are the new mechanics, you bring your computer to them and you have no idea what they are doing and they charge you whatever they want! They throw stuff at you that you don’t understand “your computer was full of spyware” “your computer was full of adware” “your drive was fragmented and your cache was full” Sound familiar? The worst part is you have no idea if the $200.00 you just spent was a great deal or a rip off..

I have been working in the IT field for about 10 years and I have seen it all. I have seen guys run a few spyware removal programs they bought online for $30.00 on their clients computer then turn around and charge anywhere from $50.00 - $250.00. I personally don’t have the heart to rip people off and that is why I work for a large company and the only side work I do is the family kind that doesn’t pay - literally! :)

So for the people out there who are not fortunate enough to have an IT guy in the family how do you avoid getting ripped off and how can you make your computer run quicker without spending any money? The good news is it really is pretty simple to delete some cache files – run defrag and a few other built in system tools and get your computer back to running normal.
